WHEN IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN THE PROPER VERTICAL SEPARATION AND THE WATER MAIN IS ABOVE THE SEWER, MAINTAIN A MINIMUM VERTICAL SEPARATION OF 6 INCHES AND INSTALL THE WATER MAIN SO THAT THE JOINTS ARE EQUIDISTANT AND AS FAR AS POSSIBLE (NOT LESS THAN 10 FEET) FROM THE SEWER. M. INSTALL SEWER MAINS WITH A MINIMUM 30 INCHES OF COVER. IF IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO INSTALL A WATER MAIN WITH LESS THAN 24 INCHES OF COVER, THE WATER MAIN SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF CLASS 350 DUCTILE IRON PIPE PER AWWA C151. NEVER INSTALL A SEWER MAIN WITH LESS THAN 20 INCHES OF COVER. N. SEWER MAINS SHALL BE LAID AT LEAST 10 FEET HORIZONTALLY FROM ANY EXISTING WATER MAINS. THE DISTANCE SHALL BE MEASURED EDGE TO EDGE. IN CASES WHERE IT IS NOT PRACTICAL TO MAINTAIN A 10 FOOT SEPARATION, THE SEWER MAIN MAY BE INSTALLED CLOSER TO THE WATER MAIN ( NOT LESS THAN 5 FEET), PROVIDED THAT THE SEWER MAIN IS LAID IN A SEPARATE TRENCH OR AN UNDISTURBED EARTH SHELF LOCATED ON ONE SIDE OF THE WATER MAIN AT SUCH AN ELEVATION THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE WATER MAIN IS AT LEAST 18 INCHES ABOVE THE TOP OF THE SEWER.
