The Western States Hockey League Presents The Western States Hockey League Presents: The 17th Annual Western States Shootout All League Showcase and 2 All-Star Teams from Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League Player Guide and League Information December 19-21, 2017 City National Arena and SOBE Ice Arena Las Vegas, Nevada To all of the College Coaches and Professional Scouts: The Western States Hockey League’s Board of Governors, along with all 23 member teams and 2 All League Rep team from the Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League, are pleased to welcome you back to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the 17th annual Western States Shootout and College Showcase. From humble beginnings, the Shootout has grown to the point that we now require two host arenas. New this year is the City National Arena the practice home of the Las Vegas Knights (NHL) are now joint hosts with the SOBE Ice Arena. We know that both facilities will provide the same kind of hospitality that our staff, media, coaches and scouts have come to expect. The 17th Shootout has brought out the largest number of college recruiters since its inception. This year, our players are showcasing their talents to over 93 colleges and universities, in addition to both national and international professional scouts. Another pivotal piece to the Shootout’s continued success, has been our partnership with the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino, which provides the WSHL, and our fans, with first-class lodging at a great price. Additionally, an all-inclusive meal program for all of our teams. We hope you enjoy your stay at the Stratosphere as much as we do every year. We all know the fun that goes along with coming to Sin City, but the core purpose of this event is to showcase our players to college hockey programs from all over the United States, a majority of which would not get the chance to see them otherwise. Last season, we were able to help promote many of our twenty year-old players, and numerous "underage" members. This gives the WSHL in excess of 160 alumni currently playing NCAA hockey, not to mention the others competing at the highest level of ACHA club hockey. Moreover, there are dozens of former WSHL players currently earning a paycheck in the professional ranks especially in Europe. This event would not be possible without the great owners of the various WSHL teams, who fund the cost of the Showcase, as well as take care of travel expenses for the numerous scouts in attendance. These owners have made a big commitment, all in hopes of moving their players onto the college or professional ranks, and they deserve recognition. Lastly, we’d like to thank each and every one of the college hockey recruiters who have taken time out of their busy schedules to fly across the country in order to be here to scout players from our league. On behalf of the entire WSHL, I hope that you have a great time at the event, a safe trip home, a great Holiday Christmas Season and a Happy New Year! Warmest Regards, Western States Hockey League • Ron White, Commissioner • • Bob Armando, Deputy Commissioner • • Carol Grinstead, Showcase Administrator • 2017 Showcase Game Format 1. Prior to each game, there will be a ten-minute warm-up 2. The ice will be resurfaced after warm-ups conclude 3. Each Showcase game will consist of two 25 minute halves, with an ice cut in between the periods 4. If a game is tied at the end of regulation, a five minute, three on three overtime period will follow, first goal scored sudden death 5. If still tied at the end of the overtime period, a three man shootout will commence and if still tied the shootout will continue in sudden death until there is a winner 6. If one team has less shooters than the other, and is forced to repeat shooters, the opposing team may repeat at the same interval. 7. The winning team earns two points, while an overtime or shootout loss is worth one point in the standings 8. All games are considered part of the regular season and all statistics will count toward the season total. What a year it has been! I can’t begin thank the NA3HL teams enough for the way they have handled and navigated through this season. The fact that we made it through a full regular season and playoffs in all five divisions is a testament to how invested everyone was to making sure our players could compete and develop. As a result, we now get to celebrate this weekend with two great events in one location, the Fraser Cup and the NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament. While this season has been unique and one of the most challenging in our history, this weekend provides us with an opportunity to showcase our players, our teams, and our league. This weekend is also a bittersweet for all of us in the NAHL and NA3HL office, because we remember our long-time staff member Fraser Ritchie with the awarding of the Fraser Cup.

WSHL WRAP-UP; September 28-October 1, 2017 Fresno Monsters @ Long Beach Bombers RIVALRY RENEWED; BOMBERS POST THREE STRAIGHT ONE-GOAL WINS OVER MONSTERS 09.28.17 – Long Beach 5, Fresno 4 09.29.17 – Long Beach 4, Fresno 3 09.30.17 – Long Beach 3, Fresno 2 The Long Beach Bombers surpassed the Fresno Monsters as a Western Division power over the past two seasons, but Fresno is back in the game in Year Two under former NHLer Kevin Kaminski. The Bombers did post a three-game sweep on home ice, but in reality, the margin was razor thin, with all three games decided by a single goal. Long Beach scored three times in a span of 7:40 early in the game and withstood a late Fresno rally for a 5-4 win in Thursday’s series opener. Daylon Mannon’s second goal of the game came with 9:10 left in the third period and got the Monsters within a goal, but Domenic Bosetti (31 saves) protected the one-goal lead the rest of the way for an entertaining Bombers victory in front of the Long Beach crowd. Cody Key also scored twice for Fresno while five different Bombers lit the lamp, including Miroslav Rohlik, whose tally with 30 seconds left in the second period proved to be the game-winner. Anton Ahlin scored with two seconds left in regulation to give the Bombers another one-goal win, 4-3, on Friday night. The Monsters led 2-0 at the first intermission, but the Bombers scored twice to tie it up after two periods.

Mark Mauno photo WSHL WEEKLY NOTES 10.13.17 – WESTERN DIVISION FRESNO MONSTERS (1-5-0) @WSHLMonsters www.FresnoMonsters.com Sometimes a team’s record can be deceiving and does not truly represent the club’s talent level. That is absolutely the case with the Fresno Monsters, who have dropped five of six games to start the year despite playing well almost every time out. Fresno’s first two series to open the season were against Long Beach and Valencia, the top two clubs in the Western Division last year. After dropping their first five games, which included three one-goal contests, the Monsters took their frustration out on previously undefeated Valencia in an 11-3 blowout victory. Forwards Cody Key and Daylon Mannon share the early team lead in goals with six apiece. Mannon owns the edge in assists with six compared to four for Key. Goaltender Adam Barvik has been played much better than his 0-3-0 record would indicate. He owns a .921 save percentage while leading the team in ice time. Fresno will look to build some momentum from its big win over Valencia this weekend when it travels to San Diego for a three-game series against the winless Sabers. LONG BEACH BOMBERS (5-0-0) @LBBombersHockey www.JrBombers.pointstreaksites.com After a pair of dominant wins over San Diego last weekend, the Long Beach Bombers are undefeated through their first five games. Netminder Domenic Bosetti logged his first shutout of the season in a 7-0 win before the Bombers recorded an 8-2 victory in the second game.

WSHL WEEKLY NOTES 10.10.18 – WESTERN DIVISION FRESNO MONSTERS (00-00-0, 00 pts) @WSHLMonsters www.FresnoMonsters.com The Freson Monsters get their 2017-18 season underway this week by hosting the Ontario Avalanche for a three-game series at Selland Arena. The Monsters, who finished third in the division race last season despite having the best goal differential (+109), will play 21 of their 23 home games at the downtown arena this season. Fresno has four returning defensemen to build their defense around: 20-year-old Logan Domagala, entering his fourth WSHL season and his third with the Monsters, 19-year-olds Taylor Hiatt (a Fresno native) and Ty Wright and Cody Printzen, who was a regular last year at 17. "Domo was named captain amongst his peers," said Monsters head coach Kevin Kaminski. "He has a lot of experience in the league and we will rely on him a lot to show the young guys the way. He is solid defensively but has great vision and can score and make plays." Another 20-year-old, Joel Brotzge, is a puck-moving D-man who spent the last three years playing Junior A in Switzerland while 18-year-old Michael Gomez is a Visalia native who played in the Eastern Hockey League last year. "I think we're pretty solid on 'D' but still looking to pick up another offensive threat," said Monsters head coach Kevin Kaminski. "Joel Brotzge looks good. He does a lot of the little things right, has excellent positional play and good offensive instincts.

WSHL WRAP-UP; February 8 – February 11, 2018 SAN DIEGO SABERS @ FRESNO MONSTERS Monsters one point out of second place after sweep of Sabers 02.08.18 – Fresno 6, San Diego 2 02.09.18 – Fresno 12, San Diego 0 02.10.18 – Fresno 7, San Diego 3 The Fresno Monsters swept six points from the sixth-place San Diego Sabers to move within a point of second place in the Western Division. The Monsters were tied with Valencia entering the weekend, but now have a five-point lead on the fourth-place Flyers. San Diego's David Grindstaff broke the ice 5:21 into Friday night's contest, and that was the only scoring in the first period, but Fresno scored the next six goals – three in the second and three in the third – and rolled to a 6-2 win. Deivids Tempelmanis scored all three third period goals in a span of 6:59. Cody Key (1-4-5) figured in five of six goals for the Monsters and 60-goal scorer Daylon Mannon turned playmaker, dishing out four helpers as well. Fresno's Kyle Franceschini stopped 26 of 28 shots in the game while San Diego's Zach Hale made 32 saves at the other end. The Monsters started stronger on Saturday, scoring three times in the first period, then shifted into another gear with six goals in the second frame on their way to a 12-0 win. Mannon scored four goals and assisted on four others for an eight-point game. Key added six points (1-5-6) while Logan Domagala and Kevin Szeghalmi each had three assists.
