Gladstone is the only complete Victorian pottery factory from the days when coal burning ovens made the world’s finest bone china. Traditional skills, original workshops, the cobbled yard and huge bottle ovens transport visitors back in time. Visit the gift shop and tea room and have a go at throwing a pot, making a china flower or decorating pottery. Please allow two to three hours for your visit. The shop and tea room, which serves a selection of drinks and light lunches, are open to non-museum visitors. Access: If you are a wheelchair user or have a pushchair, please contact us for access information. Our opening times are Tuesdays - Saturdays and Bank Holidays April - September: 10am - 5pm. Tea room: 11am - 4pm October - March: 10am - 4pm. Tea room: 11am - 3:30pm Children aged 16 or under must be accompanied by an adult. Free with admission. Have-a-go Activities Tuesday - Saturday and Bank Holidays At Gladstone you can try your hand at pottery skills and create your own masterpiece. From £1 plus admission. Toddler Thursday - Fun for the Under 5s Learn, play and explore in our sessions especially for under 5’s and their parents or carers. £1 per child but normal admission applies if you wish to visit the rest of the museum. Staffordshire Celebration Bank Holiday Monday 2 May FREE ADMISSION Join us for a celebration of our Staffordshire location. Take part in drop-in Victorian circus workshops, try out toys from the past and watch our Ringmaster ride a penny farthing! Join our Victorian embroidery session, with demonstrations of sampler techniques and have a go at simple stitches. Try working with clay in our family friendly workshop with local ceramicist Joanne Ayre. Suitable for all ages. Music will be provided by the Penkhull Village Brass Band, playing Great British classics in the courtyard. Make a Crown Craft Workshop Saturday 14 May Celebrate the Queens 90 th birthday by taking part in our drop-in workshop to make your own jewelled crown. 11am - 3pm, this activity is included in museum admission. Half Term Pottery Painting Bank Holiday Monday 30 May - Saturday 4 June Paint a piece of pottery to take home as a unique souvenir of your visit to Gladstone, from £1 plus admission. Choose from mini bottle ovens, animals and much more. Half Term Craft Activity - Brilliant Badges Tuesday 31 May Make your very own badge using pictures of potbanks and pottery workers from days gone by and decorate it with sparkles. 11am - 3pm, this activity is included with museum admission. Half Term Fun Day Wednesday 1 June Join us for facepainting, balloon modelling and magic shows - all included in normal museum admission 11am - 4pm. Meet the Animals! Thursday 2 June Get up close to exotic animals brought along by Tropical Inc and see how many you can find featured on exhibits in our Tile Gallery. 12 - 3pm, free with admission. Longton Beer Festival Thursday 7, Friday 8 and Saturday 9 July Join us for the 6th annual Longton Beer Festival with live music and a huge range of beers and ciders to choose from in the Gladstone courtyard. From 7pm - last orders 10.30pm. £5 includes a souvenir glass, strictly over 18s only. Coiled Pot Making Workshop Saturday 16 July Make your own decorative pot to take home with you by handbuilding and coiling clay. Tuesday 26 July Try rag rugging techniques in our drop-in workshop and make a shabby chic flower brooch or hairslide to take home with you. 10am - 4pm, suitable for all ages and included in admission. Shopping at the Museums At Gladstone Pottery Museum and The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery there are shops selling a wide range of unusual gifts to suit all budgets - from pocket money gifts for younger visitors to works of art by local designers and makers. There are books on ceramics and local history and unique items you won’t find on the high street. The Gladstone Shop sells a range of items made and decorated on site, including bone china flowers produced by our skilled flowermakers and decorated in our Decorating Shop. The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery Shop stocks a range of items inspired by the Staffordshire Hoard including jewellery, books and ceramics. Both shops hold regular discount events and have changing displays from local craftspeople. The shop at Gladstone welcomes non museum visitors.
