Two sections of the border are shown. Priestman2001, pp. 114-119, identifies a series of patterns on tablewares that Minton was producing by 1810, based on the engravings of Thomas Kirk that had been used to illustrate a catalogue of the collection of ancient Greek, Roman and Etruscan vases that had been put together by the British diplomat Sir William Hamilton in the latter half of the 18thC. Minton called them the Roman patterns, though the characters portrayed were not all Roman nor were the vases from which the drawings were taken all of Roman origin. The patterns have also been referred to as the Kirk series, after the artist and engraver. The pattern shown here is based on plate 54 in Kirk1804. The pattern and the source print are illustrated on p. 117 of Priestman2001, but no indication is given of what the scene represents. A circular cartouche containing various freemasonry symbols has been added to the central design, suggesting that the plate may have been part of a special order from Freemasons' Lodge. See also CoyshHenrywood1989, pp120-121, for a description of this series (here named Kirk series)and illustrations, including one of this pattern. It discusses the heritage-property nexus with regard to industrial buildings, and builds an empirical picture of such relationships in a specific local property arena. The discussion is partly based on research projects completed in a number of localities within the British West Midlands. In particular, it draws on work on the evaluation of European Commission Community Initiatives in the West Midlands that have targetted tourism development, as well as on EPSRC funded research focused on vacant industrial buildings in Stoke-on-Trent. As such, in scene-setting style, a structure is developed for the evaluation of heritage-property links with the emphasis on the small number of specific local projects that have at least partly sought to bring buildings back into use with some, perhaps extensive, degree of heritage activity in mind. 1. There is some information about the history of the Sun Inn, its licensees / managers and owners/leaseholders ... there is a link to Dr Crippen, the Brides in the Bath Murders and the Charing Cross Trunk Murder, amongst others! Included is some information about the Titanic Brewery. Over the past eighteen months, the SRL has organised several talks at the Sun Inn (7 Lichfield Road, Stafford, ST17 4JX) – Titanic Brewery’s flagship establishment in the County Town. Like many at the festival I will miss Alan this year following his recent passing but I'm pretty sure he'll be keeping an eye on things, wherever he is, to make sure we've still got his favourite malt whisky in stock! This year we have kept many of your favourite beers and ciders but have made some changes to give you some new variety. We will be offering 45 different cask ales across the weekend, a quarter of which are different from last year. After a small trial last year we are extending our craft keg range, available in the main bar. I am particularly pleased to have some beers available from the genius hand of Ken King of local Chapel Brewery, but be quick as stocks are limited on these. For lovers of more fizzy stuff, we are pleased to be working with Kingstone Press Cider, Warsteiner and Kaltenberg. Kingstone Press will once again be sponsoring The Folk Slam, the rousing finale to the festival on the Pengwern stage. Other new brewers include Purity, which is supporting the Village Stage this year, and we say a welcome return to The Shropshire Brewery after an absence last year. Also watch out for great wines, a new range of cocktails, Prosecco (obviously!) and loads of gin at our wine bar this year.
