Israel Advanced Technology Industries & Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor’s Multinational R&D at the Heart of the Startup Nation Conference

A unique look at the Global R&D and acquisitions in

Thursday March 29 2012 As the world market becomes increasingly knowledge-driven, Israel’s thriving entrepreneurial and innovative spirit has been instrumental in creating a wealth of smart solutions and some of the world’s most significant technological breakthroughs. Such creativity has helped turn Israel into a highly profitable and attractive destination for foreign investment, where industries from a variety of disciplines are integrated successfully, and form pioneer synergies. It is this energetic, creative atmosphere that is continuing to attract growing international attention. The world’s leading multinational corporations have chosen to establish R&D and production centers in the country, with over 250 foreign commercial R&D centers currently in Israel, helping industry leaders stay on the cutting edge. Israel’s appeal as a destination for investors is based on a variety of factors. Such elements include government and industry encouragement of innovation, high levels of education within the population, and a melting-pot, immigrant culture that prizes cultural diversity and risk-taking over an emphasis on the tried and true. Together with its push to the future, Israel has maintained a strong, stable economy, upon which multinational companies have come to rely. Successful partnerships with such companies have, in turn, helped to further improve the country’s economic outlook. International investment in Israel has resulted in a win-win situation for both foreign companies and the State of Israel, a partnership that continues to bring growing levels of creative enrichment and success in fields such as Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) and medical devices, to name just two. As we look to the future, it seems clear that these trends will continue to develop and further diversify, adding new industries to the current list. “Invest in Israel”, serves as a full-service “one-stop shop” for foreign based companies and individuals who are interested in investigating direct investment and joint venture opportunities in Israel. The center provides a wide range of personalized services, assistance and information to potential investors and serves as a resource for investment related information. We look forward to assisting you with services designed to address your needs during every phase of the investment process.

Sincerely, Oded Distel Director Investment Promotion Center Welcome to the Multinational R&D at the heart of the Startup Nation Conference! It is with great pleasure that I introduce this unique conference, in which some of the largest high tech companies operating in Israel – and the world – present the exciting developments taking place in Israel today. I became CEO of the Israel Advanced Technology Industries (IATI) in December 2011 to lead the merger between Israel’s High Tech Industry Association (HTIA – www.htia.co.il) and Israel Life Science Industry (ILSI-www.ilsi.org). These two prestigious professional groups are now the largest umbrella organization actively promoting Israel’s entire technology and biomed ecosystem, from entrepreneurs and startups to the global companies presenting today. The Multinational Companies Forum is an active forum within the IATI led by Microsoft Israel GM, Yoram Yaacovi and SAP’s Managing Director, Mickey Steiner. A regular gathering of the most exciting high tech companies meet to address the common challenges they, and the industry, face on a daily basis: increasing competition from emerging markets, proving to corporate centers that Israel is continuously evolving and reinventing itself as an exciting hub for innovation and cutting edge technology. Companies such as Microsoft, Cisco, Intel, SAP, EMC, RSA, Google, IBM, Broadcom, Marvell, Cadence, Alcatel Lucent, Applied Materials, Oracle and Sears are opening new centers, investing, researching and developing in Israel, bringing with them invaluable international expertise and a corporate culture that keeps Israel ahead of the game in spite of our size. This conference shows that Israel is pushing the envelope in the realms of search, ux, cloud, semi-conductors and just about every exciting technology today. Some of the R&D centers grew here following acquisitions; others were established by senior executives who saw the opportunities our startup nation promised big corporate giants. It seems that every few weeks more big companies are looking to open R&D centers here, with household names such as Intel, Cisco, Apple and Lenovo to name but a few. The IATI is happy to be working with Invest In Israel, part of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor. We see MOITAL as the perfect partner to promote the needs of the industry and promoting our achievements both here and abroad. The IATI continues to actively promote each sector through events, seminars, collaborations, forums, government lobbying and foreign representation. Through conferences such as these, as well as the largest high tech (HTIA 2012) and Life Science (Biomed 2012) conferences in the country, we are bringing together the best Israel has to offer and making it better. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information: [email protected]

●● IEEE-1647 Standard for The e Functional Verification Language ●● Specman Elite ●● Enterprise Manager ●● Verification IP Portfolio ●● UVM Methodology Acquisitions in Israel The Israeli start-up Verisity was acquired by Cadence Inc. On April 2005. Product / Activity Highlights In 1996 the start-up Verisity was founded by Yoav Hollander in attempt to significantly better address the huge challenges of functional verification of hardware design. The solution to be created was a synergy of three major components: the e Verification Language (later accepted as IEEE-1647 Standard), the development tool/environment called Specman, and a verification methodology. Later on a forth component was added and found to be very significant: e Verification Components (aka eVCs), which are typically called VIPs (for Verification IPs). Verisity was a true pioneer and leader in verification, leveraging verification expertise developed in Israel into a huge leap in verification automation and philosophy. The leap was so big, that now e and Specman are still leaders in the level of automation and verification capabilities they provide. This leadership shows in three main areas: ●● AOP (Aspect Oriented Programming) as basis for verification automation ●● Lead the industry in development of reusable verification IP (eVCs) ●● Verification methodology: pioneered with eRM (e Reuse Methodology), the first ever productized verification methodology, which later evolved into OVM and UVM (and also was inspiration for VMM). On March 2001 Verisity went IPO at NASDAQ, and on April 2005 Verisity was acquired by Cadence Inc. for about $300M. The local RnD center is focused on Functional Verification, with the following main products lines and technologies: Specman Elite and e technologies - automated testbench generation and reuse with multi-language support to boost the productivity and quality of block, chip, and system level verification. Verification Manager (vManager) - automates the management of distributed, multi-level verification projects, from planning to closure, and facilitates a methodology of Metric-Driven-Verification (MDV). With SystemVerilog’s and e’s functional coverage capabilities, plus testbench simulation support, vManager increases productivity and predictability. VIP Catalog - The industry’s broadest portfolio of verification IP and memory models, with support for all major simulators. UVM (Universal Verification Methodology) – UVM methodology was accepted in the industry as the standard for verification development, and is primarily based on the eRM developed by Verisity for e. In Cadence we develop this methodology for e, SV and SystemC. 9

The Cyota acquisition became RSA Israel (early 2006) – the revenues of RSA Israel grew significantly since the acquisition and the number of people grew more than fourfold. Up until 2011, RSA Israel was operated as a separate entity while all the other businesses were operationally united as EMC Israel Development Center (EIDC). Due to tremendous success of these acquired businesses, shown both in headcount growth as well as revenue growth, EMC’s leadership saw a great opportunity for continuous investment in Israel and decided to make Israel a Center of Excellence. In 2011, in order to unite EIDC and RSA Israel operations and to lead the Israeli COE into the future, Dr. Orna Berry joined EMC as Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the Israeli newly formed CoE.
