IN ATTENDANCE: Committee Clerk and Chief Executive. Mr James Duffy and Mrs Katrina Hope, Planning Service. APOLOGIES: Alderman G Mullan and Councillor J F McElhinney. PRESENTATION BY FIRMAS GAS: The Chair welcomed Mr Mark Prentice, General Manager, Mr Neil Holland, Sales & Marketing Manager and Mr Kevin McSherry, Engineering Manager Firmus Gas to the meeting. Mr Prentice informed members that over 1400 customers had already been connected to live gas in the North West and that they benefited from lower fuel costs through fixed price contracts. He said Firmus were extending the existing 2 year capped tariff price for domestic customers for another 12 months and that a 10% reduction would be extended to top tier commercial customers, which equated to a 6% reduction in annual gas bills capped until January 2009. He added there were also proven environmental benefits from using gas through reduced carbon emissions. Mr Prentice thanked Council for converting to gas at the Roe Valley Leisure Centre and in Council offices and said the service was expected to be connected in 4 to 6 weeks time. Firmus representatives answered a number of queries in relation to gas to rural areas and to health & safety around the service.

    SDLP RESPONSE TO POLICE OMBUDSMAN'S FINDINGS INTO CASTLEROCK AND GREYSTEEL ATROSITIES Back to Latest News The report does put on record my efforts as a public representative to bring to justice the UFF killer gang before they carried out the second shooting atrocity at Greysteel. Latest News ‘Obviously I would want to put on record that my contact with all three officers was a lot more frequent and detailed than their memories serve them. Also missing is any detail of what steps were taken to catch the Events killers earlier although I do accept that their ‘den’ was searched on many occasions but to suggest that it was because it was a ‘drinking den’ is far off the mark. Key Speeches ‘The police do accept that they interviewed a lorry driver who was seen near Castlerock on the day previous to the first shooting. This is the same person who named to me the driver of the van who was Photo Gallery Torrens Knight. I accept that at the time of the police interview the driver did not name Knight. However my information was passed to the police in May 1993, five months before Greysteel. ‘Although the police may not have had the evidence to arrest the killers after Castlerock they certainly had their suspicions and this was understood in any conversations I had with any of the three officers. ‘The officers do accept that they set up checkpoints on both bridges into Coleraine in the period between the two killings and I welcomed this. It is now a matter of history that plans were changed from carrying out a second atrocity in North Antrim and the killer gang switched to Greysteel after the massacre at the chip shop on the Shankhill Road.

    CURATES OF CLONALLON WHO RESIDED IN MAYOBRIDGE, PRIOR TO THE FORMATION OF A NEW PARISH Reverend Fr Mooney The Revd Fr. Mooney was the first resident Curate in Mayobridge. He lived in the old Church of Ireland Vicarage until a new Parochial House was built by the Revd Fr. McMullan about the 1870s. He was a nephew of Fr. John Mooney, who was P.P. of Annaclone, and educated for the Priesthood at Maynooth. He was ordained in Newry by the Most Revd Dr. Blake in 1854. Having served the people of Mayobridge for 17 years, he was appointed Parish Priest of Annaclone in 1876 and he died on the 3rd September 1889. Before arriving in Mayobridge, he served as Curate in Banbridge from 1854 until 1856 and in Dromara from 1856 until 1859. His remains are buried in Magheral. Reverend Fr Matthew Lynch The Revd Fr. Matthew Lynch replaced him in Mayobridge where he served from 1876 until 1881. Born in the Parish of Drumgath, he studied Ethics at Violet Hill Newry and from there, entered the Irish College at Salamanca in 1862, and commenced his Theological Studies in 1863. He was ordained by Dr. Leahy in Newry Cathedral on 18th August 1867. He was appointed to Dromara, as Curate in 1868 and served there until July 1869, when he was transferred to Annaclone. Having served there until July 1876, he was then appointed Curate in Mayobridge where he stayed until November 1881. On the 13th November 1881, he became P.P. of Aghaderg and on 26th April 1890 he was appointed P.P.
