The cabins on the boat will be ready for you from 14:00. At about 15:00 you will take a four hour sail to the island of Cres. On Cres we take a walk through the Venetian old town in the evening. Day 2 Islands of Cres and Lošinj 25 km In the morning your boat will cross over to Martinšćica. You will cycle on the east side of the island among pine, fig and laurel trees. The boat awaits your arrival and lunch is served during the cruise to the island of Lošinj. If the weather is good, the captain will arrange a swim stop along the way before tying off in the harbour town of Mali Lošinj. The port with its colourful facades and numerous cafes offers its visitors a welcoming atmosphere for a relaxed evening. You will spend the night in the harbour of Mali Lošinj. Day 3 Islands of Lošinj and Molat 20 + 10 km Along the seaside bike path you cycle to the south of Lošinj and visit the picturesque small harbour of Veli Lošinj before you will meet the boat for lunch. In the afternoon you cross over to the island of Molat, where you will do one more short cycling tour. Day 4 Island of Dugi Otok - Zadar 45 km During a breakfast cruise, the boat will take you past many small islands to the “spice island” of Dugi Otok. Your bike ride will start in the bay of Božava, which is surrounded by woods of pine, agave and tamarisk trees, and you will ride on a road nearly free of traffic. In the harbour of Sali you will meet the boat for lunch and a sail to Zadar. After dinner you take a guided walk through the lively town centre. Day 5 Island of Pag - Rab 20 km After a morning cruise, you will reach the island of Pag. Over the centu- ries the inhabitants have built numerous stone walls for protection of the olive and fig trees against the wind. You will bike on the narrow peninsula until you reach the sea, where the boat will be waiting to take you to Rab. The island of Rab is one of the sunniest places in Europe. The town of Rab, the fortified capital of the island, was built in the mid- dle ages on a wedge-shaped headland, and marks one of the highlights of the trip. After dinner you can explore the narrow alleys with numer- ous cosy cafés. Day 6 Island of Rab 25 km You will bike along the coast to the east side of the island, an area with virtually no vegetation, whose rough and cliffy rocks remind of a lunar landscape. The road will lead you on to a bay with a sandy beach, which is rather atypical for the Kvarner islands. At lunchtime the boat will be waiting for you in the harbour directly in front of the old town of Rab. We cruise to Jablanac near the picturesque Zavratnica ord then cross over to the neighbouring island of Krk. Day 7 Island of Krk 45 km You will cycle over the ridge of the island, which is covered by fragrant macchia, to a valley of vineyards, and then onwards to the small muse- um town of Vrbnik in the northeast. The town, built on a 50-metre-high cliff and surrounded by vineyards, is the home of the famous white wine, Žlahtina. The way will lead you on across the island through old villages and rich vegetation to Omišalj, from where Rijeka will be within your sight. On the way, you will have a chance to swim in the bay of Soline. Day 8 Omišalj Tour ends after breakfast. Captain will decide adjustments to the route depending on winds. • The Krk Diocese
THE KRK DIOCESE THE ISLES SHALL WAIT FOR HIS TEACHINGS O I R E T S I IN M T I E N IO ORAT FOREWORD The centuries-long presence of Christianity on the islands of the Krk Diocese is deeply rooted in the life and culture of its population, which has been subject to a succession of various social orders during the course of history. Until the year 1828, there were three dioceses within this territory: Krk, Osor and Rab. The presence of a bishop and his relationship with the people had a strong impact upon spiritual formation and identity. The pas- tors of the small dioceses of the Kvarner Islands demonstrated magna- nimity and openness of spirit toward the beautiful and modern, while at the same time listening to the “pulse” of the people, incorporating their language in worship. The beauty of handwritten and illuminated Glagolitic missals, psalters and antiphonals greatly enriched the corpus of liturgical literature traditionally written in Latin. Christian culture, both spiritual and material, is reflected here in the arts of painting, architecture, literature, poetry and music. This is a Church distinguished by its priests and religious, especially the Benedictines and Franciscans, including those with the reputation of saintliness, who have played exceptional historical roles in the raising and fostering of national consciousness, enhancement of the quality of life, education in moral principles, and the creation and safeguarding of the cultural heritage. These values provided a firm foundation for assuring the survival of this nation under changing conditions, not infrequently im- posed by fire and sword.

  • Kvarner Fact-Sheet
KVARNER FACT -SHEET Various information brochures can be obtained from Croatian tourism offices free of charge. More information about the Kvarner region is available at www.kvarner.hr . IN SHORT The Kvarner tourist region includes some of Croatia's most diverse natural landscapes: coast, islands and highlands. The name Kvarner comes from the Latin word Quaternarius meaning "four cardinal points". Thanks to the favourable climate on the coast, winter health tourism started developing as early as 1880, later shifting to the summer months. GEOGRAPHY The Kvarner region connects the Istrian peninsula in the west with the Croatian Littoral in the east, and includes the Gorski kotar highlands and the Primorje littoral. This is where Central Europe turns into the Mediterranean. The harsh hill country with its fortresses, castles and baroque churches flows into a Mediterranean landscape with fashionable coastal towns, harbours, beaches, islands and stone houses. CULTURAL HISTORY Thanks to its sheltered and appealing geographic location, Kvarner Bay has always attracted the interest of settlers and invaders. As early as 1200 BC, the Illyrian tribe of Liburnians settled on the Kvarner coast and traded in amber. The remains of the walls of their hill forts are still visible today. They were followed by the Greeks, Romans, Ostrogoths, Slavs, Franks, Byzantines, Hungarians, Venetians and Austrians. These all left indelible traces of their civilisations. Today, the Kvarner region has 278 protected cultural monuments, including 177 historical zones and 161 buildings and complexes. Interested visitors can read the history of the region from these monuments as if from a book. CLIMATE Kvarner Bay has one of the mildest climates in the Adriatic.

It represents an integrated approach to managing the quality of tourist destinations on a continuous basis. IQM emphasizes four key elements in its approach: tourist satisfaction, local tourism industry satisfaction, local people’s quality of life and environmental quality. QUALITEST is a tool designed by the European Commission for measuring the results of implementing quality processes in destinations. It consists of two groups of indicators: quality of the destination and quality of the tourism product. One of the elements that are measured within the second group is related to the quality of the tourism offering, which includes events among other things. Events, an important element in creating a tourism offering, have an effect on the image and promotion of the destination, on the length of tourists’ stay, on occupancy rate and on tourist consumption. Accordingly, the aim of this paper is to analyse tourist events in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County by their type and by region.
