Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky, General Director of the State Hermitage, Svetlana Borisovna Adaksin, Deputy General Director and Chief Curator of the State Hermitage, Tatyana Alexandrovna Baranova, head of the Department for Scientific Restoration and Conservation, staff of the Department for Scientific Restoration and Conservation and Guillaume Verzier, owner of the Prelle factory participated in the ceremony. In his introduction Mikhail Borisovich said: “We are very pleased to be friends with the firm Prelle, which like the Hermitage as a symbol of historical continuity. We welcome Monsieur Guillaume Verzier, who has brought priceless materials kept in the Prelle company archives. We thank everyone who made this remarkable opening possible! Above all, the golden hands of our restorers!” In turn, Guillaume Verzier thanked the Director and staff of the museum for the opportunity to become involved in the restoration of the Small Throne Room. “It is a great honor for the Prelle factory to reproduce the velvet just as it was made 150 years ago,” he said, “in the very same conditions, in the very same workshops that were used in 1856.” It is precisely the fabric finish of the Peter the Great Hall which stands out for its exceptional sumptuousness and attracts particular attention: around the whole room – on the walls lined with red Lyons velvet, in the gilded décor of the frieze, in the painting on the vaults – are Russian coats-of-arms, crowns and wreathes of glory.

Jaya Appalraju: I came to Lund in April or May 1968. I had made an initial visit in December 1967 on the recommendation and suggestion of the ANC office in London. I had come to London two years before that, in 1966. I finished my university entrance in England with the intention of going to university there. The ANC Chief Representative at the time was Reg September and he and people like MP Naicker, Aziz Pahad and Thabo Mbeki recommended ANC students to look at the Scandinavian countries as a possible place for further study. Since London was just as new to me-although it was English-spealdng-I decided to investigate it further and went to Sweden in December 1967, where I decided that I was going to apply for a grant. I got the response in March 1968 and left. It was a small student grant, which paid for my initial travel and the first three months. I was then told that I could apply for various student support grants, which I did. That is how I got to Sweden. TS: Was this through the Swedish National Union of Students (SFS)? JA: Yes. That is right. TS: At that time, were there other ANC students in Lund? JA: There were other South African studentssome of them were ANC-whom I had gone to see. One of them was Billy Modise.

PfP Consortium of Since the completion of this report, COVID-19 has dramatically challenged the business and operational models of institutions engaged in security cooperation— especially those engaged in multinational educational Defense Academies programs. In this regard, there will likely be a lasting, long-term change to operational modalities. In response, the PfPC is aggressively using this and Security Studies opportunity to reform its former operational vivendi to become more relevant, robust, and resilient. Emphasis is shifting to hybrid delivery methods that utilize technology, new pedagogical methods, and increased Institutes written content. STUDY GROUP INFORMATION One cannot predict the future security landscape, but robust and dynamic multinational cooperative education programs can better prepare us to respond to it.
