MIDASTOUCH,trainedbyAidanO'Brien,andREWILDING,representing SaeedbinSuroor'sbanginformteam,arethetwofavorites.Itisdifficultto splitthetwoandanybody'sguesswhichonewillbeshortestinthebetting whenthestallsopen.RewildinghasnotbeenseeninactionsincetheDerbyat EpsominJune,whenhewasagame(albeitwellbeaten)thirdbehind Workforce.MidasTouchfinishedfifththatday,4lengthsbehindRewilding, buttheIrishcoltmovedmarkedlyforwardonhisnextstart;whentaking secondintheIrishDerbyatTheCurragh.LookingverymuchlikeaLeger candidate,MidasTouchcheckedinjusthalfalengthbehindstablecompanion CapeBlanco(whoransecondtoHarbingerinthe'KingGeorge'atAscotnext timeout).BecauseheisaG2winner,MidasTochhastogive3lbtoRewilding thistime.ThatfactorswaysthingsinGodolphin'sfavor,butotherfactorsmake itsensibletogoforMidasTouch.Whereasheisbeingpointedseriouslyforthe Leger(andhasbeenselectedfromanumberofBallydoyletrainees),Rewilding isacoltcionnectionsfeelwillcomeintohiswonnextyear.Comingoffalong breakheisunlikelytobeatthetopofhisgamethisweek.Thatmayslsobethe casewithMidasTouchbutheismorelikelytobesharp.Botharepotential improvers.IamgoingforMidasTouch.HemadeCapeBlancoworkhardfor hisDerbywininIreland,andifhecontinuestheprogresswehaveseenstepby stepsincehisseasonaldebut,well,thenthissonofGalileowillprovehardto beat. TOTALCOMMAND,trainedbySirMichaelStouteforKhalidAbdullah, looksthebestlongshot.Thisisabig,strappingcoltwhohasneededtime,and hewillimprove–that'sforsure.HeisanotherwhomaydevelopintoG1 calibrenextseasonbuttheLegerisverymuchontheagendaforthissonof Sadler'sWellsand1,000GuineasherioneWince.Hemadewhatlookeda winningmoveafurlongoutinthe2-mileQueen'sVaseatRoyalAscotinJune, butfailedtostaythedistanceandfadedintothirdplace.Thisdistancewillsuit TotalCommandbetterand,ataround10-1,heiswellworthasmallwager.At Ascot,hehadahorsecalledCorsicaalmosttwolengthsbehind,andthatcolt wentontowinaListedraceatNewmarket;beatingHARRISTWEEDby¾ length.ThisformlineindicatesthatHarrisTweed,trainedbyLesterPiggott's son-in-lawWilliamHaggas,isupagainstithere.Onpureformheis,thoughI amnotsosureweshouldwritethisfastimprovingrunneroff–eveninthis company.HewasenteredforthevaluableSwedishDerby(wherehewould havebeen1/5)andalsofortheEborHandicap(wherehedidnotgetin)and thatconnectionstakethisroutreallyisinteresting.Theplanistogivehimone morerunafterthis,thenwraphimupfor2011.He'saveryclassylooking individual,andabitofgiveunderfootwillsuithim. DICKTURPIN,athree-year-oldtrainedbyRichardHannon,hasbeen supplementedatthecostof£50,000,andheisaninterestingcontender–ashe hasshownhimselftobeoneofthebestmilersinhisagegroup.Staminawill havetobetakenontrust,however,andanyrainwouldnotbeinhisfavor.Dick TurpinisasonofArakan,andhispedigreedoesnotaugurwellforthisstepup indistance.Thatsaid,hecerianlywasn'tstoppingattheendoftheone-mile PrixJeanPrat(G1)atChantillyinJuly,whenhepoweredhomby4easy lengthsfromSiyouni(aG1winnerlastyearbutnotquiteasgoodthisseason).
