October 10, 2012 Minutes Page 8275 October 10, 2012 Madison, Indiana The Board of School Trustees of Madison Consolidated Schools conducted a Regular Meeting and Project Hearing on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building, 2421 Wilson Avenue. Page 8276 October 10, 2012 Madison, Indiana PROJECT HEARING FOR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL POOL AND IMPROVEMENTS A. ARCHITECT PRESENTATION Mr. Brad Noe, 5253 Design Group presented the four options for pool improvements: Option 1: $1,994,000.00 – modify pool, HVAC, remove viewing wall and includes diving Option 2: $1,849,707.00 – raise pool floor, expand viewing area, HVAC, no diving Option 3: $1,409,729.44 – raise pool floor, modify viewing area, HVAC, no diving Option 4: $1,270,522.78 – bring pool up to code New Facility: $4,944,791.00 Mr. Noe presented the costs for the viewing area to be modified - $439,974.80. B. FINANCIAL ADVISOR PRESENTATION Ms. Colette Irwin-Knott, H. J. Umbaugh & Associates gave an overview of the costs to the pool project: Estimated Project Costs and Funding General Obligation Bonds of 2013 (1) Estimated Project Costs Funds Available for Improvements and Construction Related Costs $1,925,000 Allowance for Underwriter’s Discount (0.50%) 10,000 Bond Issuance Expenses (2) 65,000 Total Project Costs $2,000,000 Estimated Project Funding Proposed General Obligation Bonds of 2013 $2,000,000 (1) Assumes bonds dated January 30, 2013. Mr. Robinson informed the Board a survey had been done regarding pool options and of 102 responses 75 selected option 1.     2010-11 Men’s Basketball Guide This is IU East Indiana University East grew out of an extension established at Earlham College that was operated by Earlham and Indiana University. In 1967, the arrangement was expanded to include Purdue and Ball State universities and the extension became the Eastern Indiana Center of Earlham College. In 1969, reflecting the community’s response to this opportunity to take state university courses at home, Richmond citizens formed an association known as Eastern Indiana Community College, Inc., to raise funds for the construction of a new campus. Following a successful campaign in which they raised over $1 million, members of the community col- lege organization, with the consent of the four education institutions involved in the center, requested Indiana University to establish a regional campus in Richmond to assume responsibility for the operation. The Indiana General Assembly approved this plan, and on July 1, 1971, the East- ern Indiana Center for Earlham College became Indiana University East, the sixth campus in the Indiana University regional system. Resolution 2020 - Withdraw from Hoosier Hills Conference February 5, 2020 Whereas the Board of School Trustees recognize that high school athletics is a vital part of our children’s overall educational experience and an important part of our community’s involvement and commitment to our schools, it is critical that our athletic programs have an equitable chance to be competitive throughout every season. As a founding member of the Hoosier Hills Conference (HHC), we have been and will always be proud of our time as a member. However, it has become apparent since 1980 that Madison Consolidated High School has been unable to keep pace with the enrollment gains of member schools. The following data reflects the member schools’ high school enrollment for the fall of 2019: Jeffersonville - 2,033, New Albany - 1,821, Floyd Central - 1,806, Seymour - 1,542, Columbus East - 1,497, Bedford North Lawrence - 1,486, Jennings County - 1,218, and Madison - 863. This disparity in enrollment has resulted in a competitive imbalance that can be reflected in the following overall summary of our results both within the conference as well as in IHSAA Tournament play. The purpose of any regular-season schedule is to give a positive experience to all athletes while preparing the varsity athletes for the IHSAA Tournament. The objective of the regular season schedule is to play a competitive schedule that allows for a reasonable chance for success while not dominating much smaller schools.
