Green and cart fees will need to be paid at the golf course, and you will also need to arrange transportation. ITINERARY Wednesday: Early Arrival Day. Thursday: Morning: 8:00 am: Hospitality Room open – Check-in begins. Afternoon: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Battleship Cove Battleship Cove is located in Fall River, Massachusetts and is home of the Battleship Massachusetts (BB-59), the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. (DD-850) (being on board this ship will bring back a lot of memories), the USS Lionfish (SS-298), the Russian Tarantul I-class missile corvette Hiddensee, and the Patrol Torpedo Boat PT-617, the sole survivor of the ELCO type PT boat. Note: There is a lot of walking and climbing involved with this tour. Evening: Welcome Aboard party with Italian Buffet starting at 6:00 pm. Friday: Morning: 8:00 am Hospitality Room open – Late Check-in. 9:30 am – 5:00 pm – Depart for Rhode Island’s Spectacular City by the Sea & Breakers Tour Trip will begin northeast through Providence, Barrington, Warren, Bristol, Portsmouth and Newport, RI. A box lunch will be provided at the Sweet Berry Farm. You will tour the Breakers Mansion (The Breakers is the grandest of Newport's summer "cottages" and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial preeminence in the turn of the 20th century in America). On our return we will visit Jamestown and the Beavertail Lighthouse (Beavertail is the third oldest lighthouse in America). It was used in many situations to conduct experiments with new fog signals and lighting equipment). If time permits, we will stop for a little shopping. Evening: Free night for you to explore. Saturday: Morning: 8:00 am – Hospitality Room Open 9:30 am – Association meeting 11:00 am – 2:30 pm Depart for Providence’s Outrageously Delicious Lunch Tour With more restaurants per capita than any city in America, Providence is a foodie’s dream! Join us for this progressive lunch experience showcasing some of Providence’s most unique spots for great food! Featuring a collection of rising culinary stars and local favorites, you will love this dining adventure all over the city! Yes, you will stop at various restaurants around Providence. Roan (DD-853) – 16th Reunion - April 30 – May 2, 2020 We are urging all of you to try to make our reunion in Warwick, RI the largest one ever. We are asking all our shipmates to make an effort to attend. There is a shipmate who is waiting to see you and embrace you. Let’s make REUNION 2020 our largest ever! Roan DD-853 reunion will be held in Warwick, RI (Providence) from April 30 to May 2 2020. The reunion will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 801 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, RI 02886. Make your reservations by calling (401) 732-0261 or (800) 227-6963. Use Reference Code “CHR”. Call between 8 am – 5 pm EST. Check-in is 3:00 pm and check-out is 11:00 am. The hotel is located off Exit 12 on Route 95 coming from the south. If you are coming from the north on Route 95 the hotel is located off EXIT 12A. In both cases, keep to the right on the exit ramp. If you have special needs please notify the hotel. The hotel offers 11 accessible rooms and complementary Wi-Fi for their guests. The hotel is about 10 minutes away from downtown Providence (Amtrak) and 5 minutes away from T.F. Green Airport, which serves Providence. There is free shuttle service from the airport. Call the hotel 1- 401-732-6000 or use the free shuttle phone located in the baggage area. The Crowne Plaza Hotel is set on 80 beautiful acres with ample free parking for guests. The hotel has its own lounge and restaurant. There is also a sauna, fitness room, whirlpool and indoor pool (so bring your bathing suit). For those who like walking or jogging, there is a path around the property. The hotel is set off by itself so security should not be a problem. The room rate for the reunion will be $119.00 per night, plus tax. Things to Do There are 2 malls within minutes. In addition, Wrentham Village Premium Outlets has over 170 stores, and is approx. 45 minutes driving time. Boston – About 1 hour driving time away. Buses and trains also serve the area. Many historic sites and museums, Bunker Hill, Old Ironsides, Foxboro. New England Patriots Gillette Stadium/Patriots Place, and Fenway Park. Cape Cod – The entrance to Cape Cod is about 1 hour driving time away. Many restaurants, Cape Cod Canal, Kennedy Compound. Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket Island all served by ferry. Provincetown at the end of the Cape is about 3 hours away. Fall River – About 30 minutes driving time. Home of the battleship USS Massachusetts (BB-59), the USS Joseph P. Kennedy (DD-850), sister ship of the “Jolly Cholly” and other Naval attractions. Small ship’s store. You and 1 guest can get in free if you belong to the “Tin Can Sailors Association.” New London – Mystic – Old Saybrook, CT – About 1 hour driving time. Home of the USS Nautilus (SSN-571), (the first nuclear submarine), the submarine base, Coast Guard Academy, scenic seaside villages, and Mystic Aquarium. Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohican Sun Casino – Both under an hour’s driving time, and Twin River Casino – approx. 30 minutes driving time. Golfing – Several Courses in the area. Soft spikes required. .
