About this guide This guide describes how to install or upgrade SDL Translation Management System (SDL TMS) as of version 12.5. It provides: • the system requirements for installing SDL TMS • information on how to configure the system before installation • the necessary pre-installation steps • step-by-step instructions for installing SDL TMS and its component products. This guide does NOT cover: • Setting up SDL TMS • Using SDL TMS. Audience for this guide This guide is for anyone who is installing a new version of SDL TMS 12.5 or is performing an upgrade of SDL TMS 11.4 or later to SDL TMS 12.5. Note: Upgrading any older TMS version, is done in two steps: 1. Upgrading your older version to SDL TMS 12.1 2. Upgrading from SDL TMS 12.1 to the newer edition. For more details, please refer to your edition of SDL TMS and its corresponding documentation set. Related Documentation • SDL TMS User Guide - contains step-by-step instructions, describing simple and complex ways of using SDL TMS • SDL TMS Administrator Guide - contains details for users with administrator roles in the SDL TMS system • SDL TMS Documentation Portal - this is where you can find the complete online information about SDL TMS including the two guides mentioned above. 2 TMS Installation Guide Overview 1 Recommended Setup We recommend a two server setup: one server for the SDL TMS core components and one server to be used as the database server. Software and Hardware Requirements Read below the recommended specifications for the servers in a two server setup. SDL TMS Server For the computer on which the SDL TMS server components are installed, the recommended specifica- tions are the following: TMS Server Recommendation Component Processor 4 CPU cores RAM 8 GB Hard Disk We recommend dedicating at least 8 GB of space. Most of the deployments require significantly more space, since this space is used by the content that is being translated. Typical production environments have 60+ GB of space allocated for the solution and the data (out of which the solution is about 1 GB). Operating Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1/SP2 (Standard Edition or above) System Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (Standard Edition or above) Microsoft Windows Server 2016 (Standard Edition or above) - Recommended Database Server For the computer on which the database is installed, the recommended specifications are: Database Recommendation Server Component Processor 4 CPU cores RAM 8 GB Hard Disk Size requirements will depend on usage. TMS Installation Guide 3 1 Overview Database Recommendation Server Component Database Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (Standard Edition or above) Server Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (Standard Edition or above) Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (Standard Edition or above) Microsoft SQL Server 2017 (Standard Edition or above) - Recommended SDL TMS Installation Process Overview The following diagram gives an overview of the steps you will take when installing SDL TMS. Each of the steps has their own chapter within this guide. Installation Step 1 • Install Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP1/SP2, 2012 or 2016 Components • Install and Configure Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014 or 2017 • Apply Updates and Patches Installation Step 2 • Run the SDL TMS installer • Verify the installation 4 TMS Installation Guide 2 Installation Step 1 - Server Preparation 2 Installation Step 1 - Server Preparation This chapter gives you a complete description of the installation procedure for the SDL TMS system when installing it for the first time. About Server Preparation Read and decide which steps you need to take when performing the installation. In case you are installing SDL TMS for the first time, prepare both the server where you intend to install SDL TMS and the one you intend to use as the database server. Otherwise, if you are not installing SDL TMS for the first time, you can proceed to “Installation Step 2 – Installing SDL TMS” on page 11. User Accounts To install and run SDL TMS, the following user accounts are required: • Local administrator account • A domain account (required permissions are listed later). Note: In this guide, we use these references: • the local administrator account is <Local_Admin_User> • the SDL TMS domain account is <TMS_Domain_User>. Local Administrator Accounts In order to perform installation and configuration, local administrator accounts, referred to as <Local_ Admin_User> accounts, are required for both the SDL TMS server and the database server. SDL TMS Domain Account Create or nominate a domain account for SDL TMS to run as. We recommend that this account
