Five different ASU players scored a rushing touchdown in the FIU contest (Antonio Warren, Shermar Bracey, Chris James, Chris Easley and Oren O’Neal), the first time that has happened since the 2003 season against Tennessee-Martin, when the same number pulled off the feat.

ASU’s rushing attack has produced more touchdowns on the ground through six games (16) than all of last season (eight).

ASU’s 29 first downs against UL-Monroe are the most ever under coach Steve Roberts. The last time ASU had at least 30 first downs in a game was way back 1990, against Louisiana-Lafayette (then known as Southwestern Louisiana).

Eric Neihouse’s 50-yard field goal was the first by an Indian kicker since Jim Tarle’s 52-yarder at Northern Illinois in 1995 and just the eighth time in school history that a kicker has nailed one from at least 50-yards.

ASU has scored 50+ points in a game twice this season, marking the first time since 1986 that the Indians have been so prolific on offense.

In three-plus seasons under Steve Roberts, ASU has drastically improved its home field advantage. Roberts’ career mark at Indian Stadium is 12-5 (.706). In the five seasons before his arrival the Indians were 11-16 (.407) and since returning to 1-A in 1992, not counting Roberts’ record, the Indians are just 24-27 at home (.471).

There are six states that border Arkansas and ASU faces teams from five of them this season. The only state missing? Mississippi.

One of the fastest players on the team, Shermar Bracey utilized his speed on special teams to block a punt at Oklahoma State, the first blocked punt of his career at ASU. Bracey has also rushed for over 100 yards twice this season and currently has three such games for his career.

WR Joe Smith caught two touchdown passes in ASU’s conference opening victory over FIU. Those were the first touchdowns of his career, to go along with a personal best three receptions for 77 yards. The pair of touchdown receptions in the game slipped unnoticed, but that was the first time since 2001 that an ASU receiver caught two touchdown passes in a game. The last to do it was Alvin Powell against Nicholls State on Thanksgiving, a span of 40 games. Smith has four touchdown receptions on the year, the most by an ASU receiver since Alvin Powell’s six in 2001.

Running back Chris James and defensive tackle Jamarrow James are cousins.

Linebacker Anthony Harris is the brother of current NFL defensive lineman and ASU alum Jon Bradley. Arkansas State University Football Oct. 22, 2005 vs. Florida Atlantic Counting both the punter and kicker, ASU has 18 players from the state of Arkansas listed on the depth chart (out of a possible 46). That number represents 39-percent. What state is next? Texas (8) fol- lowed by California (6), Louisiana (5), Mississippi (4), Missouri (2), Tennessee (2) and Florida (1).

Arkansas State was allowed to pat itself on the back after finishing a three-year certification by the NCAA. ASU was certified without conditions, the only state 1-A school in Arkansas to be so certified, and will not have to go through the process for another 10 years.

In a first for ASU football, no less than five ASU games will be televised nationally in 2005. They include the Sept. 24 game vs. Florida International, Oct. 13 vs. Louisiana-Lafayette, Oct. 22 vs. Florida Atlantic, Nov. 12 vs. Troy and Nov. 19 at Army. The bulk of the games will be carried on ESPN- Regional. The previous school record for live nationally televised games was three, in 2002.

The Indians will face four opponents for the very first time this season on the gridiron. They include Oklahoma State, Florida International, Florida Atlantic and Army. ASU and Missouri had not met before until the 2004 season.

Thanks to Louisiana-Lafayette SID Daryl Cetnar who tallied up the nation’s fewest total letters return- ing on the two-deep. ASU has just 22 combined letters earned on offense and 45 for the offense and defense. Navy tops the list with just 17 total letters earned offensively and 33 on offense and defense.
