HISTORY DEPARTMENT Master of Public History (MPHist)

The Master of Public History degree is a postgraduate programme that includes both coursework and research. In 2001 the following papers will be offered: • PBHY 501 Issues in Public History 1: What is Public History?' (first trimester) • PBHY 502 Issues in Public History 2: Presenting the Past' (first trimester) • PBHY 510 Research Project: This provides you with the opportunity to develop your research skills in a particular area of interest related to the practice and policy of public history. You will be required to produce a piece of work no longer than 12,000 words of text and/or equivalent (allowing for reports that may have a non-written component utilising visual and oral material, maps, photographs etc). • One further 30-point elective paper will make up the programme. This can be from the History department or another programme or department.

What'do I need to apply? To apply for entry to the MPHist programme you will need an Honours degree Oft at least two years' experience in a professional field related to public history. Those without an Honours degree but with appropriate experience and those with an Honours degree but no experience may apply.
