Balance Sheet & Bank Reconciliation Statement 2014-15 91 Vice Chancellor’s Report - 2015 (1st December 2014 – 30th November 2015) Presented by Prof. (Dr.) Onkar Singh Vice Chancellor Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology, Gorakhpur It’s my proud privilege to present the 2nd Annual report of the Madan Mohan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology as its first Vice Chancellor after completion of two successful years in service to technical education since its inception on 1st December, 2013. Before presenting the report of University for last 12 months, I wish to record my gratitude to all distinguished members of the Court, Board of Management, Finance Committee, Academic Council, Examination Committee, Board of Studies of the University, outside academicians, industrialists, alumni, learned members of the teaching & staff, dear students of University and media persons for their tangible and intangible cooperation and support without which it would have not been possible to march aggressively towards the goals set by this technical University. Authorities of the University University is steadily progressing as per its development road map with the active involvement of all of its authorities. University regularly holds the meetings of its all statutory authorities namely Court, Board of Management, Academic Council and Finance Committee on the matters falling in their respective domains as prescribed by the University Act. University’s draft Statutes and draft Ordinances submitted by the University for the consideration of the State Government are under active consideration of the Government. However, for smooth functioning of University in the absence of Statutes and Ordinances, the Board of Management took decision on various issues in its’ 5 different meetings held in last 12 months. Apart from this two meetings of Academic Council, three meetings of Finance Committee and one meeting of Examination Committee were held in last one year. Regular meetings of Board of Studies are being conducted in each Department and syllabus has been completely updated and revised for meeting the present day requirements. Apart from the statutory bodies, the University has Internal Quality Assurance Cell for ensuring the requisite quality and standard of all academic and related activities, Council of Student Activities for extracurricular activities of students, Council of Hostel Activities for regulating the Hostel issues, EDP cell for electronic data storage & processing, University Grievance Committee & University Women Grievance Redressal Cell, Gender Champions for handling the grievances and creating awareness, University admission committee & Admission Cell, University Space Advisory Committee, Environmental Advisory Committee, Research and Consultancy Management 1 Committee, Industry-Institute Interaction Cell, Campus Development Committee, Academia Industry Cell etc.. Development Activities University has undertaken number of development activities as part of its consolidation phase and expansion phase for the successful transformation of the erstwhile college into University. In consolidation phase, the University identified its present weaknesses in infrastructure and human resource and the same are being gradually overcome. Two rounds of faculty recruitments have been carried out through which appointment orders were issued to 1 Professor, 2 Associate Professors and 22 Assistant Professors in different departments and the number of teachers has gone upto 64% as compared to 42% since inception of University. Further efforts are being made for recruitment on vacant teaching positions. An objective policy has been laid down for recruitment on vacant class III positions, which shall be carried out as soon as the State Govt. clearance is available. The academic infrastructure is being strengthened through the use of audio-visual facilities in each department for improvement in quality of teaching, furnishing of class rooms with adequate furniture, air-conditioned of reading hall in library and setting up of e-library. As part of expansion phase, the University is gradually moving as per its five year development plan in which the capacity of all five B.Tech. programmes has been enhanced from 60/75 to 120 in each with total intake of 600 in Ist year B.Tech. from academic session 2015-16 and the current student strength in University has become 2539 in 5 B.Tech.,12 M.Tech., MBA, MCA and Ph.D. programmes. The preparations are made for starting a new department of Chemical Engineering for offering B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering (with specialisation in sugar and alcohol technology) from academic session 2015-16. Development road map of University envisages for starting of new undergraduate/post graduate programmes in the areas of Pharmacy, Architecture, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Fashion Technology, Agriculture Engineering, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Chemistry, Food Technology, Bio-Technology, Journalism & Mass Communication, Cyber Security and Industrial Management in future after requisite infrastructure is available for running them. University has started setting up of the “Design, Innovation and Incubation Centre” with financial support from erstwhile U.P. Technical University now AKTU Lucknow, for which an old building space of around 3000sq.ft. is being refurbished with provision of 6 incubates and two product developmental activities have already been started in it. University campus is identified by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India, New Delhi for being developed as Green Campus and as a part of it one 100 kW roof top type grid interactive power plant is being installed on campus while other initiative of setting up kitchen waste based bio-gas plant is under process. The financial assistance received under Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme and Rashtriya Uchattar Shiksha Abhiyan is being utilized for strengthening the academic processes, extension services and other support systems. Existing campus wide network 2 is being replaced with a new latest state of art Campus wide network, server security system and storage system for strengthening the internet backbone of University and to make the whole campus Wi-Fi. Library facilities have been enriched with large number of e-journals, e-books and print version of good quality books. One new laboratory in Physics has been established and number of other laboratories are under active consideration for removal of obsolescence and facility augmentation so as to meet the present needs. In view of computers becoming obsolete, the new computers are being procured. University Management System a web based e-governance system is being developed for bringing in transparency, accountability and sharing of information with all stakeholders
