Development Activities

University has undertaken number of development activities as part of its consolidation phase and expansion phase for the successful transformation of the erstwhile college into University. In consolidation phase, the University identified its present weaknesses in infrastructure and human resource and the same are being gradually overcome. Two rounds of faculty recruitments have been carried out through which appointment orders were issued to 1 Professor, 2 Associate Professors and 22 Assistant Professors in different departments and the number of teachers has gone upto 64% as compared to 42% since inception of University. Further efforts are being made for recruitment on vacant teaching positions. An objective policy has been laid down for recruitment on vacant class III positions, which shall be carried out as soon as the State Govt. clearance is available. The academic infrastructure is being strengthened through the use of audio-visual facilities in each department for improvement in quality of teaching, furnishing of class rooms with adequate furniture, air-conditioned of reading hall in library and setting up of e-library.

As part of expansion phase, the University is gradually moving as per its five year development plan in which the capacity of all five B.Tech. programmes has been enhanced from 60/75 to 120 in each with total intake of 600 in Ist year B.Tech. from academic session 2015-16 and the current student strength in University has become 2539 in 5 B.Tech.,12 M.Tech., MBA, MCA and Ph.D. programmes. The preparations are made for starting a new department of Chemical Engineering for offering B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering (with specialisation in sugar and alcohol technology) from academic session 2015-16. Development road map of University envisages for starting of new undergraduate/post graduate programmes in the areas of Pharmacy, Architecture, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Fashion Technology, Agriculture Engineering, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Chemistry, Food Technology, Bio-Technology, Journalism & Mass Communication, Cyber Security and Industrial Management in future after requisite infrastructure is available for running them.

Library facilities have been enriched with large number of e-journals, e-books and print version of good quality books. One new laboratory in Physics has been established and number of other laboratories are under active consideration for removal of obsolescence and facility augmentation so as to meet the present needs. In view of computers becoming obsolete, the new computers are being procured. University Management System a web based e-governance system is being developed for bringing in transparency, accountability and sharing of information with all stakeholders so as to improve the quality of deliveries and make the University systems and all concerned much more responsive and accountable.

Academic Affairs

In two years journey as University, sincere efforts have been made to strengthen teaching- learning processes through effective enforcement of academic regulations, focus on improving quality of class room and laboratory teaching, attendance of students in classes, complete transparency and objectivity in student evaluation system, and frequent feedback from students and other stakeholders. Admission processes were successfully completed and the academic activities of the session started as per prescribed academic calendar. I am happy to share that the number of admission aspirants has increased by over 66% as compared to last year in 2014 when University carried out first admission process. All results were declared as per schedules notified in academic calendar. Presently, the students are given opportunity to choose the subjects and credits as per their choices and capability in the choice based credit system.

Apart from the meetings of Board of studies, every department had also organised curriculum development workshops for getting the syllabus updated as per the present day requirement. Student mentorship scheme has been launched for enabling the sharing of the expertise and experiences of senior students to the junior students. Teaching-learning activities are being carried out with requisite rigour as per the need of program. Every department has set its own vision and the programmes are being offered with the specific program outcomes with explicit program educational objectives and well defined course objectives. Examination and evaluation system has been made completely transparent to inculcate the confidence amongst students along with the perception that their efforts and perseverance shall only yield good results to them. University has taken various initiatives to improve soft skills of its students and specialised classes are being regularly organized through outside experts to mentor students for better personality and to be an effective communicator. Students are given opportunity to learn German as a foreign language while efforts are made to look for proper tutor to start French and Spanish language classes. Class room teaching is being supplemented with the experts talk by the professional experts from academia & industry, live projects and industrial visits.

University promotes innovation and creativity in its academic activities and as a part of this the students are mandated to undertake the problems of social/industrial relevance as the projects and dissertations at undergraduate & post graduate level and number of formal and active 3 collaborations have been done with industry and research Institutions of the country. University facilitates the nurturing of innovative ideas of the students by extending them the requisite mentoring and financial support. Special efforts are being made to form the interdisciplinary groups at second year / third year level of UG programme for undertaking innovative projects which may be extended as their Project problems too. Presently University has 06 formal collaborations with industry & academia in which number of B.Tech. and M.Tech. students are working on number of projects under them.

Research and Development

On the research and development front, the University has set higher benchmarks for ensuring the good quality work being carried out in its PG and research programmes. Due to sincere and honest commitment of University regarding the maintenance of standard and enrichment of quality, presently, with around 65% teachers with Ph.D. degree and 64 regular faculty members, the University has exhibited commendable performance of its faculty members through 272 publications since December 2014 in various peer-reviewed national and international journals, conference proceedings, 2 books, 3 book chapters,1 patent, 1 Limca Book of Record etc. The publications include the peer reviewed papers numbering to 129 international journal publications. The Ph.D. programme in the University has also enhanced considerably with setting up of University’s own Research cum Teaching Fellowship Scheme. Presently, there are 30 fulltime registered doctoral students out of which 03 are the full time teachers under Quality Improvement Programme of MHRD, Govt. of India and the current year 2015 itself has witnessed a fresh enrolment of 9 candidates in the Ph.D. programme. Facilities have been created for ensuring the plagiarism free publications from University and also to create compelling situation for original thinking.

University has partly completed the process of creating its own web portal based University Management System for effective and timely deliveries and nearly paperless working in its campus. The admission counselling, registration, attendance monitoring, feedback system, marks uploading & display, result preparation & display etc. have been completed as part of the ongoing e- governance initiative of the University. Presently 8 sponsored research projects funded by various Government organizations are in progress with a financial outlay of approximately Rs. 76 Lacs in the University.

Seminar, Conferences and Workshops

Since December 2014, the Departments of University had organized 20 number of seminar, conferences, workshops and training programmes for creating a platform for interaction amongst the practicing professionals, academicians and students in relevant area. Total number of 08 conferences and 12 workshops & training programmes along with number of industry – institute interaction activities were organized.

4 Student Activities

University aims at creating holistic professional with all essential attributes of good human being and for this the extracurricular activities are given reasonable focus along with regular teaching – learning activities. Students are given ample opportunities to showcase and polish their extracurricular skills through large number of events during the academic session. University has 14 number of cells/clubs for keeping the campus vibrant through various student activities under the aegis of Council of Student Activities. In order to encourage students for participation in various activities the evaluation process for award of General Proficiency marks has been made objective and transparent. Now students have to earn their General Proficiency marks through their participation in various extra-curricular and related activities at the Department and University level while maintaining proper conduct. University has implemented the Talent Incentive Scheme for encouraging meritorious students through scholarships and part funding of their registration/ participation in seminar/conferences in India and abroad. I am happy to share that two students of B.Tech. Electrical Engg. & Computer Sc. & Engg. have participated in IEEE conference held in Bangkok in November 2015. Special thrust is laid on nurturing the innovating minds of the students through University level Innovation Cell and Innovation Clubs in each department. The University has organized number of student’s cultural and technical activities/festival in both the semesters under the aegis of different Department level societies, student chapter of IEEE and SAE. An all India competitive event on Innovations was organized through 3 good ideas have been picked up for further development. Students of the University are regularly participating in national level sports/ festivals being organized in different premier institutions outside.

Alumni Activities

University restructured the Old boys association namely Malaviya Alumni Association for making it much more meaningful and to strengthen the relationship between University and alumni. Alumni Association has been allotted one building with covered area of around 1500sqft for housing its full time office on campus and has its global presence through interactive alumni portal on University website. Further I am pleased to share that this year too one scholarship has been instituted by Alumni in addition to two scholarships and two sponsored medals instituted by alumni last year. A two days Alumni Meet – 2015 was successfully conducted with participation of more than 150 alumni members in which the interaction amongst alumni and also with the students were held successfully.

The functional structure of Alumni Association has been re-organised and a building has been allocated for setting up its full time office in the campus. All Departments of the University have constituted ‘Department Advisory Groups’ under the chairmanship of senior alumni and few alumni members for seeking their continuous support in strategic development of the respective departments. The alumni feedback is always sought while planning the academic systems and processes. University is committed for seeking the support of alumni for the hand holding of graduating students for their career guidance and placement.

5 Infrastructure addition

Construction activities are going on in full swing for augmenting the infrastructure of University with the grant from U.P. Government. It consists of construction of 6 seminar rooms, 6 laboratory halls, 27 class room complex, one new department of Chemical Engineering, new girls hostel of 75 capacity, new boys hostel of 240 capacity, completion of ongoing boys hostel of 240 capacity, auditorium of 2000 capacity, new boundary wall of campus along with refurbishment of multipurpose hall and air conditioning of reading hall in Central Library. In addition to this, recently the extension of existing boys hostels namely Subhash Hostel and Raman Hostel has also been sanctioned for capacity enhancement of 240 boys in each hostel with U.P. Government grant of around Rs. 9 Crores.

For meeting the other requirements, the University has undertaken the construction of 1st floor of Centre of Management Studies, New portico and Committee Room in Administrative block, air-conditioning of two lecture halls, 100 kW rooftop solar power plant, construction of VC camp office, Wi-Fi facility in Cafeteria & two hostels, setting up of biometric attendance system in offices & hostels, creation of sitting rooms in Applied Science Department, purchase of two vehicles, grilling in girls hostel to prevent monkey menace, additional 4 single bed room accommodation after refurbishment of existing buildings for research scholars, along with various other essential activities from its own savings under different heads in this year, out of which some have been completed while some are in process.

Training and placement cell is making all efforts to enrich the students with essential ingredients in their personality through training sessions for communication, etiquettes and behaviour apart from academic inputs from different departments. Around 67% of eligible students were placed in different companies from campus placement in passing out batch of 2014-15, however with the University’s increased emphasis on placement initiatives, around 50% of eligible students from the current final year batch of 2015-16 have been placed till now in 04 number of organizations through on campus placement while many more organizations are scheduled to hold the campus placement interviews in the near future in this academic session.

Extension Activities and Societal Outreach

In view of its mandate as technological University, the faculty members are reasonably involved in extension activities and social outreach programmes. Students of the University actively contribute in the societal issues through their forum namely Social Engineering Board.

At the end, I would like to state that this Institution with 2 years age since its rebirth on1st December 2013 as non-affiliating technological University, is striving hard to make significant contributions in imparting good quality technical education with high standards. I am happy to share that inspite of inheriting lot of adversities from erstwhile engineering college, this University could 6 create its little place in technical education of the country through its strong commitment for embedding its all activities with honesty, time bound deliveries, complete transparency, high quality standards, zero tolerance for indiscipline and high integrity with holistic considerations of implications of its all operations on society through budding technical professionals.

All teachers, staff members and students deserve appreciation for their whole hearted involvement in completing two successful years as technological University. The University family is committed to provide suitable ecosystem for nurturing and overall development of creative minds of young technical students for making exemplary contributions in overcoming the challenges faced in the sustainable development of civilization through its lush green campus with enchanting glory.

Lastly, I am grateful to you all for sparing your valuable time for gracious presence in this campus and patience hearing and also humbly look forward for all possible support in strengthening this University.

Jai Hind !
