Candidate for CITY AUDITOR I, ANN-MARIE HOGAN, hereby declare that I am a candidate for an elective office in the City of Berkeley, and make the following statement: 1. My present occupation is City Auditor 6. I have held the following public offices: City Auditor, City of Berkeley 7. I am a taxpayer in the City of Berkeley. 9. As your elected City Auditor, I ask the tough questions: Is this city program efficient and effective? Is this action appropriate, legal, and equitable? I defend your interests, ascertaining that public funds are used appropriately, issuing performance audits that get results such as: a roadmap for achieving Zero Waste; planning for more sustainable streets; heightening risk prevention; and recommending better construction permit services. The Auditor’s Office is an essential element of public accountability and transparency in City government. With your support, I will continue working on your behalf to identify and analyze root causes of fiscal and performance problems, making practical recommendations for change, following up to ensure improved City results, and engaging community members. I am a taxpayer in the City of Berkeley. 9. I am privileged to have represented you, working for sound environmental stewardship, affordable housing, quality resident ser- vices, traffic calming, and academic success for our children. I continue to work closely with police to improve public safety. Emission controls have substantially reduced neighbor complaints about West Berkeley industry odors. My office recently bro- kered an agreement with Berkeley Asphalt to cut volatile organic emissions 50%. At my direction Berkeley completed an excellent Watershed Management Plan, including storm water retention wells, filtration, and permeable street paving. Our re-design of the Gilman/I-80 Interchange is shovel-ready; the $15 million needed is in the County Transportation Measure before the voters. Re- sponding to a plan to ship explosive crude oil on Amtrak rails, the Council unanimously approved my proposals to oppose. Collabo- rating with environmental organizations and other cities, we led the California delegation in Washington to press the Department of Transportation to more effectively regulate the railroads. The oil industry must not endanger the safety of our communities, as has happened elsewhere. Endorsements (see www.lindamaio.org) include Berkeley’s Fire Fighters Association, and the Sierra Club. I ask for your support for my re-election, Berkeley’s Parks Measure, and the proposed Tax on Distributors of Sugar-Sweetened Beverages. 10.I refer to the following residents of the City of Berkeley: Loni Hancock, State Senator Nancy Skinner, State Assemblymember, AD15 Josh Daniels, Berkeley School Board President Beatriz Leyva-Cutler, Executive Director/BAHIA Inc. & Berkeley
