Its purpose was to create the knowledge that could inform both, the path towards the new economic paradigm, as well as the security and foreign-policy strategy befitting the brave new world India aspired to grow into. A generation has passed since. The march towards globalisation that India hoped to ride is itself under question today. India’s politics, too, is mirroring these global transformations. The country has shifted from a period of multi-party coalitions to a single-party democracy. In a new de- globalising world, India still sees itself as a leading power—one that aspires to shape international outcomes rather than just acquiesce to them. -

Pattukkottai Kalyana Sundaram
Vedha Anand The Club 10-31-2020 Vedha Active Years: 1956-1971 S.S.Vedhasalam •Vedha was born in Sri Lanka, so it appears! Despite his 20 year association with cine field (1952- 1971), there is not much information on him in the internet. •Wikipedia, one cine-blog and an AVM Book provided few details about him. •He started his film career in Madras because Sinhalese films were made in Madras at that time. Three Sinhalese films list him as music director from 1952-1954. •During his stay in Madras, he worked as an assistant to music directors T.G.Lingappa and C.N.Pandurangan for the movie Menaka, released in 1955. •He became a full fledged music director in 1956 (Marma Veeran) and his career lasted until 1971 (Justice Viswanathan). We have no record of his activities since then. •Vedha was active during the golden era of K V Mahadevan and Viswanathan-Ramamurthy. When these star-directors were busy with megastars MGR and Sivaji, Vedha filled the need for other heroes, Jaishankar and Ravichandran. He had two films with Gemini Ganesan. Songs of these two films, Manamalai and Parthiban Kanavu are ever green. •Modern Theatres made good use of Vedha in their action and thriller movies. •Modern Theatres “re-make” successful Hindi movies and Vedha was asked to reproduce the popular tunes. Vedha had a knack of naturalizing Hindi and western music to suit Tamil taste by working with the lyricists. As a result, copy sounded better than the original! •He gave us several memorable, original songs such as Andhi Mayanguthadi, Idhaya Vaanin Udhaya Nilave, Palingunaal Oru Maaligai and the dynamo-Dingiri Dingale. -

Despite the general deceleration in the global economies, Indian economy is being viewed in a positive light with a potential for further acceleration as the ongoing reforms gain momentum. PM Modi has also been pro-active in his diplomatic efforts both in the neighbourhood and global level. Addressing challenges to the global commons and finding common grounds with international community on a variety of issues like climate change, terrorism, nuclear security and non-traditional security concerns have been part and parcel of his endeavours at the international level.
