As part of its mission to reduce fatalities and injuries, since model year 2001 NHTSA has included rollover information as part of its NCAP ratings. One of the primary means of assessing rollover risk is the static stability factor (SSF), a measurement of a vehicle’s resistance to rollover. The higher the SSF, the lower the rollover risk. -

No. 681 May, 1996 To: All Jeep® & Eagle Dealers Subject: Emissions Recall #681 -- Catalytic Converter Models: Vehicles Listed Below Which Are Equipped With a 2.5L Engine and Are Currently Located Outside of California: • 1991 Through 1995 Model Year Jeep Cherokee (XJ) Vehicles Built Through February 14, 1995 (MDH 021411) • 1991 Through 1995 Model Year Jeep Wrangler (YJ) Vehicles Built Through February 7, 1995 (MDH 020712) • 1991 and 1992 Model Year Jeep Comanche (MJ) Vehicles Failure of the catalytic converter on the above listed vehicles, may cause a vehicle to be in violation of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Emissions Standards. To correct this condition, the catalytic converter must be replaced. Vehicles which are located in California will be serviced under California Emissions Recall #680. Details of this service action are explained in the following sections. Service Procedure Videotape No videotape of the service procedure for this recall will be provided. Dealer Notification & Vehicle List Involved dealers: Each dealer to whom involved vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same street address) will receive a copy of this dealer recall notification letter and a list of the involved vehicles by first class mail. The Vehicle List is arranged in Vehicle Identification Number (VlN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of involved vehicles as necessary. All other dealers: Each Jeep & Eagle dealer who does not receive a Vehicle List will receive a copy of this dealer recall notification letter by first class mail. -

Add-A-Leaf/Lev-A-Load Installation of a Rancho® Suspension System can increase the risk of vehicle rollover in abrupt maneuvers. Many states have laws governing modification of original equipment suspension systems. Such laws may prohibit any modification which adversely affects safety or any modification altering the suspension more than a specific number of inches. Rancho® Suspension recommends that you contact local law enforcement in your area before modifying your suspension. Rancho® does not recommend or endorse the use of its products in conjunction with those of other aftermarket suspension or lift kit manufacturers. Do not use on vehicles with a mechanical Link Rear Proportioning Valve. Height may vary due to condition of Stock Springs. Contact: Daniela Ferro Ariel Gavilan Jeep® History January 6, 2016, Auburn Hills, Mich. - In July 1940, the U.S. military informed automakers that it was looking for a “light reconnaissance vehicle” to replace the Army's motorcycle and modified Ford Model-T vehicles. The Army invited 135 manufacturers to bid on production and developed a lengthy specification list for the vehicle, including the following: 600-lb. (272 kg) load capacity Wheelbase less than 75 inches (190 centimeters) Height less than 91 centimeters (36 inches) Smooth-running engine from 4 to 80 kilometers (3 to 50 miles) per hour Rectangular-shaped body Four-wheel drive with two-speed transfer case Fold-down windshield Three bucket seats Blackout and driving lights Gross vehicle weight below 1,300 lbs (590 kg). At first, Willys-Overland and American Bantam Car Manufacturing Company were the only two companies answering the call. Soon, however, Ford Motor Company entered the picture, and competition began among the three over which company would receive the lucrative government contract. Each company produced prototypes for testing in record time. Bantam's chief engineer, along with a team of Bantam executives, worked out a design, and the company built its field car within 49 days. Willys-Overland Vice President of Engineering Delmar G. Roos designed the Willys Quad. Ford developed its Model GP (General Purpose), known as the Pygmy, which was powered by an adapted Ford/Ferguson tractor. Each company delivered its prototype to the Army in the summer of 1940 and received approval to build 70 sample vehicles. The Army took possession of these vehicles in November 1940 at Camp Holabird, Maryland. -

Factory Transmissions 45RFE: The 45RFE four speed automatic transmission was used in 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokees with 4.7L engines. 46RE: The 46RE four speed automatic transmission was used in 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokees with 5.9L engines. 44RE: The 44RE four speed automatic transmission was used in 1996 to 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee's with 5.2L engines. 42RE: The 42RE four speed automatic transmission was used in 1993.3 to 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokees with 4.0L engines. 46RH: The 46RH four speed automatic transmission was used in 1993 to 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokees with 5.2L engines. 32RH: The 32RH three speed automatic transmission was used in 1992 to 1995 Wrangler with 4.0L engine and it continues to be used in 1997+ Wrangler with 4.0L engine. 30RH: The 30RH three speed automatic transmission was used in 1992 to 1995 Wrangler & 1992 to 1996 Cherokee with 2.5L engine. AX-15: The AX-15 is a medium duty 5 speed manual transmission. It was introduced in mid 1989 in YJs with the 4.2L engine and XJs and MJs with this engine. The first year of the Grand Cherokee (ZJ), the AX-15 was rare option only with the 4.0L engine.
