ABSTRACT In the living world the Angiosperms plants are the largest group in the world. There are 2,50,000 plant species belonging 12,000 genera and 300 families. In India, there are 45,000 plant species and in Gujarat there are 2198 plant spices belonging 902 genera and 155 families. In total angiosperm plant species, India has 15,000 flowering plants belonging 315 families and 2250 genera. Banvad Taluka is situated in Jamnagar district of Gujarat State. It is situated between Latitude : 210.9326014’N . Longitude : 690.7984008’E. It is full of natural beauty. The botanical names are arranged according to the classification system of Bentham and Hooker. The Vernacular names, family’s names and uses of different parts of the plants were reported. Plants were identified by using the standard books. Various field trips were done in the month August,2018.From them there are 31 dicotyledonous families and 2 monocotyledonous families are observed. Total 61 angiosperm plant species are documented by various photographs during different field trips. Medicinally and Economically useful plants noted during this paper preparation. Present research work confined to medicinal uses which is used for the various diseases. The present paper deals with total 38 angiospermic plant species belonging to 36 genera and 28 families, which are useful as various herbal drugs . -

Friedman Premise of research. Water lilies (Nymphaeales) make up one of the oldest independent lineages of an- giosperms. The giant water lily, Victoria, exhibits pollination and floral traits that are derived within Nym- phaeales. Specialization in pollination and floral biology is often reflected in pollen traits, and in Victoria,this is evidenced by the production of permanent tetrads. Compound pollen has evolved many times across the angiosperm phylogeny, but compound pollen development has been investigated in only a few taxa, and the degree of developmental variation in microspore cohesion is unknown. This article comprehensively charac- terizes the pollen ontogenetic sequence in Victoria for the first time. Methodology. Floral buds of Victoria amazonica, Victoria cruziana, and Longwood hybrid were field collected. Anthers at the sporogenous, microspore mother cell, tetrad, “free” microspore, and mature pollen grain stages were studied using combined LM/SEM/TEM. Pivotal results. Microspore cohesion in Victoria differs from that exhibited by the few compound pollen- producing taxa that have been studied. In Victoria, the calymmate tetrads fuse via crosswall cohesion, but cytoplasmic connections are transient and do not serve as a template for wall bridge formation. -

Ariful Islam and Zubair Bin Anwar Department of Pharmacy, International Islamic University Chittagong, Bangladesh Abstract: Nymphaeaceae family is well known for the flowering water plants which are traditionally used in various neurological diseases. So, the purposes of the examination was to evaluate sedative action of the methanol extract of Nymphaea capensis leaves using animal models along with its cytotoxicity assay on brine shrimp. Adult male Swiss albino mice were treated with extract at 200 and 400 mg/kg doses and then subjected to behavioral tests such as open field, hole cross, elevated plus-maze (EPM) and thiopental Na-induced sleeping time test to assess sedative activities. In-vitro cytotoxicity assay was performed on shrimps of Artemia salina. In hole cross and open field test locomotors activity and exploratory behavior were reduced in the test group compared with the control groups. Percentage time spent in open arm in EPM test was increased for test groups in a dose dependent manner. Reduced onset of sleeping time and increased duration of sleeping time also indicated CNS depressant effect of the extract which was comparable with the standard drug diazepam. The extract shows LC50 value 271.584 µg/ml in the brine shrimp cytotoxic test. -

OSBORN2,4 2 Division of Science, Truman State University, Kirksville, Missouri 63501-4221 USA Brasenia is a monotypic genus sporadically distributed throughout the Americas, Asia, Australia, and Africa. It is one of eight genera that comprise the two families of Nymphaeales, or water lilies: Cabombaceae (Brasenia, Cabomba) and Nymphaeaceae (Victoria, Euryale, Nymphaea, Ondinea, Barclaya, Nuphar). Evidence from a range of studies indicates that Nymphaeales are among the most primitive angiosperms. Despite their phylogenetic utility, pollen developmental characters are not well known in Brasenia. This paper is the first to describe the complete pollen developmental sequence in Brasenia schreberi. Anthers at the microspore mother cell, tetrad, free microspore, and mature pollen grain stages were studied using combined scanning electron, transmission electron, and light microscopy. Both tetragonal and decussate tetrads have been identified in Brasenia, indicating successive microsporogenesis. The exine is tectate-columellate. The tetrad stage proceeds rapidly, and the infratectal columellae are the first exine elements to form. Development of the tectum and the foot layer is initiated later during the tetrad stage, with the tectum forming discontinuously. The endexine lamellae form during the free microspore stage, and their development varies in the apertural and non-apertural regions of the pollen wall. Degradation of the secretory tapetum also occurs during the free microspore stage. Unlike other water lilies, Brasenia is wind-pollinated, and several pollen characters appear to be correlated with this pollination syndrome. The adaptive significance of these characters, in contrast to those of the fly-pollinated genus Cabomba, has been considered. -

The birth and rapid radiation of flowering plants has interested many scientists and was considered ‘an abominable mystery’ by Charles Darwin. In searching for the angiosperm evolutionary origin and its underlying mechanisms, the genome of Amborella has shed some light on the molecular features of one of the basal angiosperm lineages; however, little is known regarding the genetics and genomics of another basal angiosperm lineage, namely, the water lily. In this study, we reviewed current molecular research and note that water lily research has entered the genomic era. We propose that the genome of the water lily is critical for studying the contentious relationship of basal angiosperms and Darwin’s ‘abominable mystery’. Four pantropical water lilies, especially the recently sequenced Nymphaea colorata, have characteristics such as small size, rapid growth rate and numerous seeds and can act as the best model for understanding the origin of angiosperms. The water lily genome is also valuable for revealing the genetics of ornamental traits and will largely accelerate the molecular breeding of water lilies. Box 9514, 2300 RA Leiden, The Netherlands; e-mail: [email protected] SUMMARY Fourteen species of Sauropus are recognised for Malesia, 21 for Thailand. Two species are described as new, S. asymmetricus of Sumatra and S. shawii of Borneo. Many new synonyms, especially for S. androgynus and S. rhamnoides, are provided. The latter two species have a much wider distribu- tion than described before and both are difficult to separate from each other. A phylogeny based on morphological and palynological data proved futile, but showed that Sauropus together with Breynia and Glochidion are embedded in the paraphyletic Phyllanthus. Most species which formerly belonged to Synostemon and are now included in Sauropus are probably, with the exception of S. bacciformis, related to Breynia and Glochidion. Because of the poor phylogenetic results the circumscription of Sauropus is not changed (Synostemon still included), and an infrageneric classification is not provided. Key words: Euphorbiaceae, Sauropus, Synostemon, Malesia, Thailand. INTRODUCTION Blume (1825) introduced Sauropus based on two species, S. rhamnoides and S. albi cans. The latter, the lectotype of the genus (Webster, 1994), appeared to be a synonym of a taxon originally described by Linnaeus (1767) as a Clutia, the commonly known S. androgynus (L.) Merr. In the course of time various authors contributed taxa and presently about 70 species are known. The genus shows two distinct areas of speciation, one in Southeast Asia mainland (Thailand up to Vietnam) and one in Australia.
