MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE REGULAR SESSION 2017 By: Senator(s) Stone, Barnett, Frazier, To: Rules Jackson (11th), Jackson (32nd), Norwood, Simmons (12th) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 530 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE INDIANA 2 STATE REPRESENTATIVE CHERRISH PRYOR FROM HOLLY SPRINGS, 3 MISSISSIPPI, UPON HER ELECTION AS CHAIR OF THE INDIANA BLACK 4 LEGISLATIVE CAUCUS. 5 WHEREAS, State Representative Cherrish Pryor 6 (D-Indianapolis), a member of the Indiana House of Representatives 7 since 2008, and a native of Holly Springs, Mississippi, has been 8 elected the new leader of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus 9 (IBLC). Caucus members selected Pryor as the group's chair during 10 an Indiana Black Legislative Caucus organizational meeting on 11 November 22, 2016. She succeeds State Senator Lonnie Randolph 12 (D-East Chicago) as leader of the 13-member group; and 13 WHEREAS, Representative Pryor is a native of Holly Springs, 14 Mississippi, and has lived in Indiana since 1986. She graduated 15 from South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1988. She 16 moved to Indianapolis in 1995 to work for the Indiana House of 17 Representatives as a Legislative Assistant. She is a Democratic 18 member of the Indiana House of Representatives, representing the 19 94th District since 2008; and S. C. R. No. 530 *SS01/R432* ~ OFFICIAL ~ N1/2 17/SS01/R432 PAGE 1 (lr\rc) 20 WHEREAS, Representative Pryor began her political career as 21 an Indianapolis City-County Council member, representing the 7th 22 District from 2007 to 2008; and 23 WHEREAS, Representative Pryor's professional experience 24 include: 25 Former Public Affairs Director, Indianapolis Marion County 26 City-County Council; 27 Former Consultant/Real Estate Manager, Marion County; 28 Auditor's Office; and 29 Manager, Community Outreach, BrightPoint, 2011-2012. 30 Her religious, civic and other memberships include: 31 Board member, Noble of Indiana, present; 32 Board member, Peace Learning Center, present; 33 Member, Board of Directors, Progressive Baptist Church; 34 Member, Concerned Clergy; 35 Former Lobbyist, Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce; 36 Member, Indiana University Alumni Association; 37 Member, National Association for the Advancement of 38 Colored People (NAACP), Indianapolis Chapter; 39 Member, National Black Masters in Business Administration 40 Association, Indianapolis Chapter; 41 Member, National Conference of State Legislators; 42 Member, Pike Township Young Men's Christian Association 43 Campaign Committees; S. No. 530 *SS01/R432* ~ OFFICIAL ~ 17/SS01/R432 PAGE 3 (lr\rc) 69 Indiana Black Legislative Caucus stands ready to commit to 70 protecting the rights of minorities in such areas as civil rights, 71 economic development and education. We fully intend to stand up 72 and be heard, starting in the 2017 Legislative Session"; and 73 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend a native 74 Mississippian whose mastery of the legislative process and 75 decisive leadership has built an indelible legacy of progress on 76 behalf of the citizens of Indiana: 77 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 78 MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That 79 we do hereby recognize and congratulate Indiana State 80 Representative Cherrish Pryor from Holly Springs, Mississippi, 81 upon her election as Chair of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus 82 and extend the best wishes of the Mississippi Legislature for her 83 future success. 84 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 85 Representative Pryor and her family, forwarded to the Indiana 86 Speaker of the House of Representatives, and made available to the 87 Capitol Press Corps.
