Previous meetings • The sides are meeting for the first time in UEFA club competition. • PSV have already faced Russian opponents this season, losing 1-0 home and away against FC Dinamo Moskva. The Dutch team had won their previous two meetings with Russian sides in Eindhoven. • Zenit lost 3-2 on aggregate to FC Twente in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League round of 16 in their only previous two-legged tie against Dutch opponents, falling just short of overturning a 3-0 first-leg defeat. Form guide • Zenit are in the round of 32 for the sixth time since the advent of the UEFA Cup group stage in 2004/05; they have thus far advanced to the last 16 each time. • No side has scored more than once in PSV's last six European home games, which have produced three 1-0 home wins, two 1-0 away wins and a 1-1 draw. • Zenit have gone 17 games (W7 L10) without an away draw in Europe since a 0-0 at FC Porto in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League group stage. Trivia and links • Zenit's Javi García and PSV's Karim Rekik were team-mates at Manchester City FC; both players came on as substitutes in a 1-0 Premier League win against Reading FC – Rekik's only league appearance for the club. • PSV are one of five sides to have made it from the third qualifying round to the round of 32 along with BSC Young Boys, Club Brugge KV, FC Dinamo Moskva and Torino FC. • PSV (1978) and Zenit (2008) are among 11 former UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League winners in the round of 32. Only one other tie features two past competition victors: VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach (1974, 1979) and holders Sevilla FC (2006, 2007, 2014). The coaches • Having led PSV to Dutch Cup glory as caretaker coach in 2012, former midfielder Phillip Cocu took permanent command in 2013 after learning the ropes in a number of roles at the club. As a player, he collected 101 caps for the Netherlands and won four titles in two spells at PSV, as well as the 1998/99 Spanish crown with FC Barcelona, his club from 1998 to 2004. • Having joined FC Porto's coaching department in his teens after a debate with the club's then coach Sir Bobby Robson, Zenit's André Villas-Boas assisted José Mourinho and spent a season in charge at A. Académica de Coimbra before winning a Liga, Portuguese Cup and UEFA Europa League treble with Porto in 2010/11. He then coached Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC, taking command at Zenit in March 2014. • Villas-Boas (Porto 2011) is one of three coaches involved in the round of 32 who have won the UEFA Europa League since the competition took on its current incarnation, along with SSC Napoli's Rafael Benítez (Chelsea 2013) and Sevilla's Unai Emery (Sevilla 2014). 3 PSV Eindhoven - FC Zenit Thursday 19 February 2015 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit PSV Stadion, Eindhoven Team facts PSV Eindhoven Formed: 1913 Nickname: Boeren (Farmers) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Champion Clubs' Cup: 1988 • UEFA Cup: 1978 • UEFA Super Cup: (1989) • European/South American Cup: (1988) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 21 (2008) Dutch Cup: 9 (2012) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: group stage (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2012/13: group stage 2011/12: round of 16 2010/11: quarter-finals 2009/10: round of 32 2008/09: UEFA Champions League group stage 2007/08: quarter-finals (having transferred from UEFA Champions League group stage) 2006/07: UEFA Champions League quarter-finals 2005/06: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2004/05: UEFA Champions League semi-finals Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 10-0: PSV v Ards FC 18/09/74, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round first leg • Biggest away win 0-5: FK Zeta v PSV 23/08/12, UEFA Europa League play-off first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-4: PSV v Arsenal FC 25/09/02, UEFA Champions League first group stage • Heaviest away defeat 6-0: AS Saint-Étienne v PSV 07/11/1979, UEFA Cup second round second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 9-0: PSV v FK Zeta 30/08/12, play-off second leg • Biggest away win 0-5: FK Zeta v PSV (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-2 three times, most recently v PFC Ludogorets Razgrad 19/09/13, group stage • Heaviest away defeat 6-0: AS Saint-Étienne v PSV (see above) FC Zenit Formed: 1925 Nickname: Sine-belo-golubye (Blue-White-Sky Blues) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Cup (1): 2008 4 PSV Eindhoven - FC Zenit Thursday 19 February 2015 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit PSV Stadion, Eindhoven • UEFA Super Cup (1): 2008 Domestic honours (latest triumph in brackets) League title: 4 (2012) USSR/Russian Cup: 3 (2010) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless otherwise indicated) 2013/14: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2012/13: round of 16 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League group stage) 2011/12: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2010/11: round of 16 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2009/10: play-offs 2008/09: round of 16 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League group stage) 2007/08: winners 2006/07: did not compete in UEFA club competition 2005/06: quarter-finals 2004/05: group stage Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 8-0: Zenit v FC Encamp 29/08/02, UEFA Cup qualifying round second leg • Biggest away win 0-5: FC Encamp v Zenit 15/08/02, UEFA Cup qualifying round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Zenit v Bologna FC 16/09/99, UEFA Cup first round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-0 twice, most recently v VfB Stuttgart 01/11/89, UEFA Cup second round second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 8-0: Zenit v FC Encamp (see above) • Biggest away win 0-5: FC Encamp v Zenit (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Zenit v Bologna FC (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: VfB Stuttgart v Zenit (see above) 5 PSV Eindhoven - FC Zenit Thursday 19 February 2015 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit PSV Stadion, Eindhoven Squad list PSV Eindhoven Current season All-time QUAL UEL League UEL UEFA No. Player Nat. • Record Clean Sheets

BSc-Thesis – BMO Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie Name Student: Mylan Pouwels Registration Number: 991110669120 University: Wageningen University & Research (WUR) Study: BBC (Business) Thesis Mentor: Jos Bijman Date: 1-23-2020 Chair Group: BMO Course Code: YSS-81812 Foreword From an early age I already like football. I like it to play football by myself, to watch it on television, but also to read articles about football. The opportunity to combine my love for football with a scientific research for my Bachelor Thesis, could not be better for me. During an orientating conversation about the topic for my Bachelor Thesis with my thesis mentor Jos Bijman, I mentioned that I was always interested in the management strategies of organizations. What kind of choices an organization makes, what kind of resources an organization uses, what an organization wants to achieve and its performances. Following closely this process in large organizations is something I like to do in my leisure time. My thesis mentor Jos Bijman asked for my hobbies and he mentioned that there was a possibility to combine my interests in the management strategies of organizations with my main hobby football. In this way the topic Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie was created. The Bachelor Thesis Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie is executed in a qualitative research, using a literature study. This Thesis is written in the context of my graduation of the study Business-and Consumer Studies (specialization Business) at the Wageningen University and Research. From October 28 2019 until January 23 I have been working on the research and writing of my Thesis.

  • Number #9 in the TDF Top 50
From being a small boy, I have always been a huge fan of both football and professional wrestling and at around the age of 10-years-old, I came across a monthly magazine brought to newsagents from the makers of the world famous Sports Illustrated all about pro wrestling. It was simply named Pro Wrestling Illustrated. It was a publication I regularly read as well as Shoot and Match weekly magazines to feed my football addiction. In 1991, PWI began this new craze that instantly grabbed my attention more than no other magazine had before. They revealed the 'PWI 500'. The 'PWI 500' section in the magazine listed (in rank order) the top 500 professional wrestlers in the world that year. Counting down from 500, this revealed to me many, many talents that I have not discovered as of yet. This was released every year, and still to this day is the best selling edition of the magazine each year. I studied and read and read over and over again that edition in 1991 and I came up with an idea. What if Match or Shoot revealed the top 500 footballers in the world? Thinking back to 1991, I used to love to tune into the 'BBC Radio 1 Top 40' show every Sunday afternoon too... maybe I'm a tad obsessed with countdowns. Anyways, reflecting on the idea, I thought about it each year the 'PWI 500' was released. As years went on, I felt that this would have grown into a hugely successful plan, gaining great recognition with people in the game, possibly gained its own award ceremony on TV with the emergence and exposure SKY Television in the United Kingdom was just beginning to give to the game back then.
