Form guide • PSV have won just once in five European home games against Portuguese sides – 5-0 against FC Porto in the 1988/89 European Champion Clubs' Cup second round. Their last two home games against Liga opponents have ended 2-2, with SL Benfica their opponents on both occasions. • As they embark upon only their second European season, Estoril have lost just once in five UEFA away games – 2- 1 at FC Slovan Liberec in last season's group stage. Trivia and links • This game takes place on the 40th anniversary of PSV's biggest win in UEFA competition; a 10-0 victory against Northern Ireland's Ards FC in the first round of the 1974/75 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. • PSV midfielder Stijn Schaars and right-back Santiago Arias both played in the Liga for Sporting Clube de Portugal from 2011 to 2013. • Estoril's Polish goalkeeper Paweł Kieszek spent the 2011/12 campaign in the Netherlands with Roda JC.     Hoe zit het nu met de clean sheets? Vrijdag behaalden Go Ahead Eagles en Jay Gorter tegen Roda JC Kerkrade hun 21e clean sheet van het seizoen, na 31 speelrondes (en met dus nog zeven wedstrijden te gaan). Een nieuw clubrecord was het al enige tijd, maar inmiddels is er ook sprake van een prestatie van nationale allure. Zowel club als keeper rukken nu op richting de algemene top vijf sinds de invoering van het betaalde voetbal in 1954. Wij maakten een inventarisatie om de huidige reeks in historisch perspectief te zetten. Een opmerking vooraf We moeten ons realiseren dat een clean sheet geen doel op zichzelf is. Wie elke wedstrijd met 0-0 gelijkspeelt, heeft weliswaar 38 clean sheets, maar wordt hooguit vijftiende in de competitie. Wie elke wedstrijd met 2-1 wint, heeft daarentegen geen enkel clean sheet, maar wordt wel kampioen. Het was daarom bijna paradoxaal dat er een zeker chagrijn heerste na de 5-1 winst tegen FC Dordrecht op 19 maart. Het was nota bene de grootste overwinning van het seizoen, maar dus geen clean sheet … Het negatieve sentiment was dus verre van rationeel, maar zo groot is kennelijk de magie van een record, ook als het gaat om een ‘onbedoeld’ record. Iets soortgelijks gold ook voor de serie van 22 ongeslagen officiële wedstrijden die Go Ahead Eagles vorig seizoen onder Jack de Gier neerzette. Ook hier was geen sprake van een ‘bewuste’ serie, maar meer van een ‘bijvangst’. Wie elke wedstrijd met 0-0 afsluit en dus 38 keer ongeslagen blijft, wordt immers opnieuw hooguit vijftiende op de ranglijst.

I like it to play football by myself, to watch it on television, but also to read articles about football. The opportunity to combine my love for football with a scientific research for my Bachelor Thesis, could not be better for me. During an orientating conversation about the topic for my Bachelor Thesis with my thesis mentor Jos Bijman, I mentioned that I was always interested in the management strategies of organizations. What kind of choices an organization makes, what kind of resources an organization uses, what an organization wants to achieve and its performances. Following closely this process in large organizations is something I like to do in my leisure time. My thesis mentor Jos Bijman asked for my hobbies and he mentioned that there was a possibility to combine my interests in the management strategies of organizations with my main hobby football. In this way the topic Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie was created. The Bachelor Thesis Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie is executed in a qualitative research, using a literature study. This Thesis is written in the context of my graduation of the study Business-and Consumer Studies (specialization Business) at the Wageningen University and Research. From October 28 2019 until January 23 I have been working on the research and writing of my Thesis.

    From being a small boy, I have always been a huge fan of both football and professional wrestling and at around the age of 10-years-old, I came across a monthly magazine brought to newsagents from the makers of the world famous Sports Illustrated all about pro wrestling. It was simply named Pro Wrestling Illustrated. It was a publication I regularly read as well as Shoot and Match weekly magazines to feed my football addiction. In 1991, PWI began this new craze that instantly grabbed my attention more than no other magazine had before. They revealed the 'PWI 500'. The 'PWI 500' section in the magazine listed (in rank order) the top 500 professional wrestlers in the world that year. Counting down from 500, this revealed to me many, many talents that I have not discovered as of yet. This was released every year, and still to this day is the best selling edition of the magazine each year. I studied and read and read over and over again that edition in 1991 and I came up with an idea. What if Match or Shoot revealed the top 500 footballers in the world? Thinking back to 1991, I used to love to tune into the 'BBC Radio 1 Top 40' show every Sunday afternoon too... maybe I'm a tad obsessed with countdowns. Anyways, reflecting on the idea, I thought about it each year the 'PWI 500' was released. As years went on, I felt that this would have grown into a hugely successful plan, gaining great recognition with people in the game, possibly gained its own award ceremony on TV with the emergence and exposure SKY Television in the United Kingdom was just beginning to give to the game back then.

Das ist der niedrigste Schnitt an Platzverweisen in diesem Jahrtausend. In den ersten 11 Runden dieser Saison der Tipico Bundesliga wurden 19,6% der Tore von außerhalb des Strafraums erzielt. In einer gesamten Saison liegt der Höchstwert seit detaillierter Datenerfassung bei 17,6% in der Saison 2006/07. Am 1. Spieltag fielen im Schnitt 4,5 Tore pro Spiel. Einen trefferreicheren Auftakt gab es nur 2000/01, als im Schnitt 4,8 Tore pro Spiel erzielt wurden. Buntes und Kurioses Stefan Meusburger kassierte am 9. Spieltag dieser Saison der Tipico Bundesliga den frühesten Platzverweis seit Gründung der Bundesliga. Er musste nach einer Minute und 7 Sekunden vom Platz. Der SKN St. Pölten holte bereits in den ersten 10 Runden mehr Punkte (21), als in der gesamten Vorsaison (20 Punkte in 36 Spielen) der Tipico Bundesliga.
