NEPAL Earthquake ECHO CRISIS FLASH No. 10 shortage Period covered 1. Situation The death toll resulting from the earthquake which struck central Nepal on 25 April has risen to 7 276, with 14 362 injured (Government of Nepal-GoN figures, 4 May). It is anticipated that these figures will further increase as remote areas are becoming accessible for government officials and humanitarian actors. On 3 May, the GoN declared the USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) phase over; it is now paramount that the emergency humanitarian response is further scaled up to reach remote and most affected Village Development Committees (VDCs), ensuring speedy movement and delivery of relief items. According to UN estimates, up to 8 million people have been affected by the ECHO Emergency Contact earthquake. Over 54% of the deaths have been recorded in the districts of Tel.: +32 2 29 21112 Sindhupalchowk and Kathmandu, but there remain entire districts, such as Fax: +32 2 29 86651 Rasuwa, which have yet to be accessed. Therefore, this st udy was objectively carried out to compare the growing stock, carbon stock and biodiversity in and around Banke National Park (BaNP). The map of the study was prepared it was divided into six blocks were delineated specifically. Altogether 90 sample plots, particularly, 15 plots in each block were laid in the field. Circular nested plots having 8.92, 5.64, 1 and 0.56 m radius were established in the field to measure tree, poles, sapling and seedlings respectively. The soil samples were collected from 0–10, 10–20, and 20–30 cm depth. The diameter (at 1.3 m) and height of trees/poles/sapling were measured. The biomass was estimated using equation of Chave et al, and soil carbon was analyzed using Walkley and Black method. It was found that 104 trees/ha, 416poles/ha and 1991saplings/ha in BaNP. -

Nepal Earthquake District Profile - Gorkha OSOCC Assessment Cell 09.05.2015 This report is produced by the OSOCC Assessment Cell based on secondary data from multiple sources, including the Government of Nepal, UNDAC, United Nations Agencies, non-governmental organisation and media sources. I. Situation Overview Gorkha, with a population of more than 271,000, is one of the worst-affected districts.1 The epicenter of the earthquake was in Brapok, 15km from Gorkha town. As of 6 May, 412 people have been reported killed and 1,034 injured. In the southern part of the district, food has been provided, but field observations indicate that the food supplied might not be enough for the actual population in the area. Several VDCs in the mountainous areas of Gorkha are yet to be reached by humanitarian assistance. There are no roads in these northern areas, only footpaths. The level of destruction within the district and even within VDCs varies widely, as does the availability of food. A humanitarian hub has been set up at the Chief District Officer’s (CDO) premises in Gorkha town. Where multiple figures for the same location have been reported the highest one was taken. These figures are indicative and do not represent the overall number of people in need. 1 This is an updated version of the Gorkha District Profile that was published by ACAPS on 1 May 2015. As with other mountain areas of Nepal, Gorkha contains popular locations for foreign trekkers. -

Introduction to the Project
Introduction to the Project Nyadi Hydropower Project (NHP) is a run-of-river type project, located in Lamjung District of Western Development Region of Nepal. In October 2006, Butwal Power Company Limited (BPC) and LEDCO had an understanding to develop the project together. According to this understanding, a new company named as “Nyadi Hydropower Limited” was established. The project has an installed capacity of 30 MW and will generate 180.24 GWh of energy annually. Project Location The entire project area (i.e. intake to powerhouse) is located within the BahunDanda Village Development Committee (VDC) in Lamjung District, Gandaki Zone as shown in Fig. 1. Road upto district headquarter Besisahar is blacktop. Besisahar is 185 km west from the Kathmandu and reach by the prithivi highway up to Dumre and Besisahar is 45 km from Dumre. Nearest Road head from Project Site be reached in following ways from the different parts of the Country. Technical Features of the Project Nyadi Hydropower Project is a run-of-the-river type project. The proposed system of the power plant will be run for its full capacity of 30 MW for about 5 months of the year. -
