Hampshire Constabulary Update Dear Parents/Carers,
Following our communication with you on the 18th November and 20th November regarding the safeguarding incident involving pupils from The Hamble School – we have received an update from Hampshire Constabulary, which we feel important to circulate to our parents and the wider community.
Report from Hampshire Constabulary: The reports have involved a suspicious man in a vehicle, approaching children either on their way to school or th th on their way home. Those incidents were reported between November 17 and November 25 , each time the child has been walking and the man has asked if they wanted a lift, or tried to engage in a conversation with them.
Incidents have occurred on: Newtown Road, Southampton,
Satchell Lane, Hamble-Le-Rice
Wildern Lane, Hedge End Lower Northam Road, Hedge End Hamble Lane, Bursledon Ashley Crescent, Southampton Sholing Road, Southampton
Middle Road, Southampton
Both boys and girls have been approached. On each occasion they have done the right thing by reporting it to an adult. No child has got into the car or been hurt in anyway. Officers from both Southampton and Eastleigh neighbourhood teams are proactively investigating these incidents and are dealing with them extremely seriously. It’s important to note that not every report has been the same and therefore the police are looking at all lines of enquiry to identify similarities in the descriptions of the car and man that have been reported. The police understand that these kinds of incident are very concerning for schools, parents and children. It is
important to stay alert but not alarmed, remind children that they should not get into anyone’s car, or go with
anyone they do not know, and to report the incident to the police as soon as possible.
We will continue working with our local community, and the police if necessary, and will keep you informed of any updates.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs R Earle Director of Teaching and Learning
Be the best you can be!
