Building Stone Quarry of Mr. Abdul Jaleel A Chapter- III 3.1 Process description The Quarrying operation is carried out in different stages. A flow chart depicting the operations is shown below: OPENCAST METHOD DRILLING & BLASTING 32 mm BLAST HOLE. Nitrate Mixture Explosive BENCH FORMATION 5.0 m HEIGHT & 5.0 WIDTH EXCAVATION BY EXCAVATORS LOADING BY EXCAVATORS / LOADERS TRANSPORTATION BY TRUCKS / TIPPERS DESPATCH TO CLIENT / CUSTOMER The quarry is proposed to work with conventional open cast with bench system method with mechanized mode of operation. Based on the mode and method, taking into the consideration of geological parameters of the charnockite body, the quarry pit will be so designed such that the height of the bench is kept about 5.00 m max. Building Stone Quarry of Mr. Abdul Jaleel A 3.2 REGIONAL GEOLOGY The district can broadly be divided into two geological divisions viz. (i) the eastern part represented by the Archaean crystalline rocks and (ii) western coastal fringe occupied by Tertiary and Quaternary sediments. The Archaean crystalline rocks comprise Khondalite Group, Charnockite Group and Migmatite Group. Khondalite Group is composed of garnetiferous biotite-sillimanite gneiss, with occasional bands of calc-granulite and quartzite, and constitutes the major rock type. Charnockites are acidic to intermediate in composition. Irregular patches of khondalite, veins of pegmatite and quartz are seen within the charnockite. Pyroxene granulite occurs within the khondalite as thin discontinuous lenticular bands conformable to the foliation planes. Migmatites are evenly distributed in the central part District Survey Report, Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala State 7 of the district as narrow zones within garnetiferous sillimanite gneiss. All these rocks are intruded by a number of dolerite dykes, but their distribution is restricted to the midland region of the district. Thin and impersistent veins of pegmatite and quartz veins are very common, and many of the pegmatites have gained importance because of their gemstone (chrysoberyl) content. Sedimentary formation of Mio-Pliocene age (Warkalli beds) occurs as detached patches unconformably overlying the crystalline rocks, along the coastal tracts. Quaternary Formation includes pebble beds (with ferruginous sandstone and bands of clay), coastal sands and alluvium. The Tertiaries and the basement rocks of the midland are extensively lateritised. 3.2.1 LOCAL GEOLOGY The permit area is covered by Charnockite. These rocks in general are massive and show moderately well-developed gneissosity. 3.3 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF FORMATIONS Geological parameters / features of the ore body as obtained from the field mapping reveal the following: Length of the ore body : ranging from 23 m to 71 m (Avg =47 m) Width of the ore body : ranging from 66 m to 78 m (Avg = 72 m) Building Stone Quarry of Mr. Abdul Jaleel A 3.3.1METHOD OF ESTIMATION OF RESERVES The estimation of ore reserves is made by conventional parallel cross section method using geological cross section. The geological cross sections are prepared across the strike of the ore body. The area of individual litho units in each and every cross section is calculated separately. The volume between the cross section is arrived on the basis of the average area of production cross section. And tonnage is arrived at by multiplying by bulk density. Note : Following are the parameters considered for reserve estimation: (i) In the allotted area, the mineral is exposed from the lowermost level of 45 m RL to the top most part of the hill at 95 m RL. Hence, the reserve for proved category has been considered up to 80 m MSL. (ii) Bulk Density of Stone and associated minor minerals is taken as 2.5Ton /M3. 3.3.2 RESERVES OF MINERALS Considering the above parameters and exposures observed in the existing pit in the allotted area, the surface geological plan and geological cross-sections & longitudinal section are prepared. Accordingly, the reserves for Stone and associated minor minerals have been estimated on cross- sectional area method. The mineable reserves are arrived after deducting the reserves locked in mines barrier along the boundary in Building Stone Quarry of Mr. Abdul Jaleel A compliance with Metalliferous Mines Regulations 2015. Summary of Geological and mineable reserve is given below.

  • Draft Industrial Potential Survey
DRAFT INDUSTRIAL POTENTIAL SURVEY DISTRICT :THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Introduction Thiruvananthapuram District is the southernmost district of the coastal state of Kerala, in south India. It came into existence in the year 1957. The headquarters is the city of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) which is also the capital city of Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram city and several other places in the district loom large in ancient tradition, folklore and literature. In 1684, during the regency of Umayamma Rani, the English East India Company obtained a sandy spit of land at Anchuthengu near Varkala on the sea coast about 32 kilometres (20 mi) north of Thiruvananthapuram city, with a view to erecting a factory and fortifying it. The place had earlier been frequented by the Portuguese and later by the Dutch. It was from here that the English gradually extended their domain to other parts of Travancore. Modern history begins with Marthanda Varma, 1729 CE – 1758 CE, who is generally regarded as the Father of modern Travancore. Thiruvananthapuram was known as a great centre of intellectual and artistic activities in those days. "Thiruvananthapuram" literally means "City of Lord Anantha". The name derives from the deity of the Hindu temple at the center of the Thiruvananthapuram city. Anantha is the mythical thousand hooded serpent- Shesha on whom Padmanabhan or Vishnu reclines. The temple of Vishnu reclining on Anantha, the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple, which dates back to the 16th century, is the most-recognizable iconic landmark of the city as well as the district. Along with the presiding deity of SriPadmanabha, this temple also has temples inside it, dedicated to Lord Krishna and Lord Narasimha, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Ayyappa.
