The Humanities Index for Archaeology What is the Humanities Index? The Humanities Index is an index to references from over 320 Humanities journals including 64 archaeological titles. Why do I need it? Archaeological reports, data and articles are published in many sources and it is not possible for the library to purchase everything. However, by using the Humanities Index you can find out about some of the literature published in other sources and we can obtain it for you through our inter-library loan service. The Humanities Index is particularly useful because it indexes publications from the archaeological societies of the UK. A complete list of the publications is included at the end of this guide. How do I access it? Go to LibrarySearch from the Library tile of the Student Portal or the Library Services website (http://www.canterbury.ac.uk/library). Log in using your CCCU username and password. Select Find Databases, click on H, then click on the link to Humanities Index to open it in a tab. How do I search it? Enter your keywords in the search box and press ENTER. A list of references to articles that match your search will be displayed. Michelle Crowther @HumLib_cccu 13/9/17 Narrowing your search results If you have found a large number of results you can narrow them down using the options in the left hand frame. You may wish to only choose scholarly articles or limit your results to the most recent research. You also have the option to select peer-reviewed material which has been through a rigorous qualitative publishing process. Finding the full-text of articles Click on Full Text Finder at CCCU to find out more about how you can obtain the article. You will be presented with a list of possible options. Click on the hyperlink to view the article. NB If the full-text is not available you can request an inter- library loan. Consult the library web pages for more information. Copying the results of your search You can copy the bibliographical reference (i.e the information about the article that you need to include in your bibliography), in the citation style of your choice. Click on Preview and choose Cite. NB The University uses Harvard 10th edition so you will need to make some amendments to the reference to ensure that it meets University regulations.
