UCLA UCLA Electronic Theses and Dissertations Title Doing the Time Warp: Queer Temporalities and Musical Theater Permalink https://escholarship.org/uc/item/1k1860wx Author Ellis, Sarah Taylor Publication Date 2013 Peer reviewed|Thesis/dissertation eScholarship.org Powered by the California Digital Library University of California UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles Doing the Time Warp: Queer Temporalities and Musical Theater A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Theater and Performance Studies by Sarah Taylor Ellis 2013 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Doing the Time Warp: Queer Temporalities and Musical Theater by Sarah Taylor Ellis Doctor of Philosophy in Theater and Performance Studies University of California, Los Angeles, 2013 Professor Sue-Ellen Case, Co-chair Professor Raymond Knapp, Co-chair This dissertation explores queer processes of identification with the genre of musical theater. I examine how song and dance – sites of aesthetic difference within the musical – can warp time and enable marginalized and semi-marginalized fans to imagine different ways of being in the world. Musical numbers can complicate a linear, developmental plot by accelerating and decelerating time, foregrounding repetition and circularity, bringing the past to life and projecting into the future, and physicalizing dreams in a narratively open present. These excesses have the potential to contest naturalized constructions of historical, progressive time, as well as concordant constructions of gender, sexual, and racial identities. While the musical has historically been a rich source of identification for the stereotypical white gay male show queen, this project validates a broad and flexible range of non-normative readings.

  • Beginning Band and Orchestra Information and Welcome
______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Beginning Band and Orchestra Information and Welcome Welcome to the Warrior Instrumental Music Program at Heritage and Friendly Hills Middle Schools! This packet contains information regarding required class materials, as well as information specific to instruments in our bands and orchestras and how to obtain your instrument. In order to be ready to play in band or orchestra, students need to acquire their instrument/book. The following page outlines the 3 options for obtaining your instrument/book: 1) Rent-to-own from a local Music Store 2) Purchase online, family, or friend 3) Rent from the school. Our goal is to begin using instruments/books the week of October 5. Renting Large Instruments: Students playing larger instruments (F horn, baritone, tuba, bass) will be able to keep their rented instrument at home and use a school instrument during any at-school playing. Rental Fees and Financial Limitations No student will be turned away from participating in instrumental music due to the inability to pay for a rental. If financial limitations prevent a family from renting, each middle school has a limited supply of instruments available to families at a reduced rate (or free if needed). Please inform your teacher if you think you might need a school instrument. *We need to know how you plan on obtaining your instrument/book by Friday, September 25th. All the best, District 197 Middle School Music Staff Lauri Booth Claire Dill Galen

Box 352 Class Agents Crawfordsville, IN 47933 Greg Teague Web site: www.wabash.edu Scott Smalstig Email us: [email protected] Scott Quick Phone: (765) 361-6369 January 3, 2013 Greetings Gentlemen, I hope everyone had a very happy holiday season and that the New Year is treating each of you well. Now that the year has turned and my life is getting back to some semblance of normalcy I wanted to get a letter out to everyone to recap some news and to look forward to our upcoming 25th Class Reunion at the Big Bash 2013. I was able to make it back to Wabash at the end of September for much of the Homecoming weekend festivities. While there I was able to share a very enjoyable dinner on Friday night with both Eric Stark and Scott Smalstig at the celebration for the Challenge of Excellence campaign. Sorry Brother Quick, you should have answered your phone, both the dinner and the company were great. Highlights from the evening can be found at http://www.wabash.edu/news/displaystory.cfm?news_ID=9648. For those with inquiring minds, the Challenge of Excellence had a goal of raising $60 million by the end of 2013. The campaign ended over a year ahead of schedule with a total of $68,116,695. Thank you to all who contributed over the past couple years, what an outstanding accomplishment. In addition to the Challenge of Excellence dinner, the weekend marked the 100th anniversary of Homecoming and the 120th anniversary of the Wabash College Glee Club.

Case 0:19-cv-62258-XXXX Document 1 Entered on FLSD Docket 09/10/2019 Page 1 of 15 UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA BRITNEY TAYLOR, Case No. Plaintiff, CIVIL COMPLAINT vs. DEMAND FOR JURY TRIAL ANTONIO BROWN, Defendant. Plaintiff Britney Taylor, by and through her attorneys Haas Law, PLLC, Emery Celli Brinckerhoff & Abady LLP, and The Law Offices of Marshelle I. Brooks, PLLC, alleges as follows for her Complaint: INTRODUCTION 1. This case is about how Antonio Brown – a highly successful wide receiver in the National Football League (“NFL”) – exploited, sexually assaulted, and raped his former trainer Britney Taylor. Brown preyed on Ms. Taylor’s kindness and her religious devotion, casting himself as a person equally dedicated to his religious faith and someone she could trust. In reality, he used manipulation and false promises to lure her into his world, and once there, he sexually assaulted and raped her. These heinous acts have inflicted severe and dramatic damage on Ms. Taylor, irreparably harming her. 2. In June 2017, Brown sexually assaulted Ms. Taylor twice while they were together for training sessions. First, Brown exposed himself and kissed Ms. Taylor without her consent. Later that month, Brown, while positioned behind Ms. Taylor, began masturbating near her without her knowledge and ejaculated on her back. Ms. Taylor realized what occurred when she 1 Case 0:19-cv-62258-XXXX Document 1 Entered on FLSD Docket 09/10/2019 Page 2 of 15 felt a wet spot soak through her clothing. Later, in astonishingly profane and angry text messages, Brown bragged about the incident to her.
