Webster was a runaway winner polling 21 votes to win by nine votes from his Coach, Chris Bishop with Newcastle City midfielder Jackson Monk a further vote away in third www.bdafl.com.au place. Maitland’s midfielder, Jim Taranto made it back to back Granland Medal as the Best and Fairest player in 1st Division with the 2nd Division award going the Singleton’s Johnny Cornelius. The inaugural Women’s Best & Fairest award was an exciting affair with Newcastle City’s Kirsty Ferguson and Lauren Cooper from Nelson Bay sharing the award. Terrigal Avoca were presented with the Club Championship Trophy with Warners Bay Black Diamond AFL @ b d a f l winning the Administration Award. The Volunteer of the Year award went to Singleton’s, Kevin Pitcher with Cooper also taking out the Young Volunteer of the Year. Muswellbrook’s Max Barwick was acknowledged for his long service with the Muswellbrook club by being awarded a prestigious AFL Merit Award. Cardiff youngster, Max Hillier took home the BDAFL Rising Star as the Best First Year, whilst Nelson Bay duo Luke Price and Lisa Steane were awarded the Most Outstanding Young Footballer of the Year and Most Outstanding Young Womens Footballer of the Year respectively. Newcastle City gun forward Courtney Knight claimed the Maurice Goolagong Trophy as the Black Diamond Cup's Leading Goalkicker for a fourth time with Maitland’s Wade Beard taking home the 1st Division award. James Drury, Newcastle City and Singleton’s Travis Bates shared the 2nd Division Award whilst Jemma Astley from Nelson Bay won the Women’s Lead- ing Goalkicker award. The BDAFL Team of the Year was also announced with plaques presented to the 22 players as well as the Coach and Um- pire. Peter Van Dam and Chris Bishop were presented with plaques in appreciation of their 10 year involvement with the Repre- sentative Program. The night also saw the BDAFL unveil their Ambassador program which is aimed at acknowledging those players from this region who have excelled both on and off the field. The first seven Ambassadors were Jarrad McVeigh, Craig Bird, Mark McVeigh, Isaac Heeney, Troy Luff, Matt Granland and Maurice Goolagong.     MEDIA RELEASE - AFL (NSW/ACT) Wednesday, April 2 Henson Park to host five Sydney AFL matches this Saturday With the celebrations for 150 years of Australian Football underway, Sydney AFL will be creating some history of its own this weekend, with an entire round of senior football scheduled over one day at Henson Park for the season opener. This Saturday, footy fans will be treated to over 12 hours of Australian Football action, with all five Round One matches of the Sydney AFL taking place at the newly renovated facility. Henson Park, home of the Newtown Jets, has recently undergone a $250,000 upgrade, and this will be the first opportunity for Sydney AFL to take centre stage at the refurbished ground. Garry Burkinshaw, Senior Football Operations Coordinator for AFL (NSW/ACT) said that this was an exciting milestone for the Sydney AFL competition and signaled the leagues continued development as a premier sporting competition. “This is an important year for Australian Football across all levels of competition and Sydney AFL is no exception. As a competition the standard and support is growing rapidly and being able to provide fans with an entire day and night of Australian Football is a fantastic opportunity. “It is also the perfect platform to showcase some of the emerging talent coming through. Fans will be able to see the next generation of AFL stars in action with many of the NSW Rams players taking part in matches, along with some of the AFL Scholarship holders,” said Burkinshaw. The Sydney AFL competition has developed some true champions over the years with no less than 13 players currently on AFL lists.
