The 2009-10 New England Men’s Division II/III teams were composed in a different manner than past years. Instead of splitting the squads into ECAC East/NESCAC and ECAC Northeast All-Stars, all Division II and III teams in New England were voted on as a whole with an expanded number of spots. This year’s banquet will be held on Tuesday, April 13 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The banquet will start at 6 p.m. All awards and All-Star teams will be presented at the gala. All coaches, student-athletes, family members and friends are encouraged to attend Tuesday’s banquet. Contact Pete Souris at (781) 245-2122 for information on attending this event. Cost is $35 per person. Coleman Noonan of St. Anselm was named the Division II/III New England MVP. Noonan capped the 2009-10 slate with a scoring line of 23-24-47. The Norfolk, Mass. native was selected to the Division II/III All-America Second Team on March 18 and was the only Division II skater amongst 23 other All-Americans on the list. Noonan is a First-Team All-Conference selection and was tapped as the Player of the Year by both the ECAC East and the Northeast-10. In addition to his All-Conference selections, Noonan was named Most Outstanding Player in the Northeast-10 Tournament after leading the Hawks to their first Championship title since 2006. Mike McShane was selected the Division II/III New England Coach of the Year after leading Norwich to a 26-1-4 mark and the Cadets’ third NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey National Championship. On March 24, McShane earned the distinction of AHCA Division III “Coach Of The Year”. It is the fourth time the Wakefield, Mass. native has been bestowed with the award. Ned Bunyon, long time referee in both the ECAC and Hockey East, was bestowed with the Parker/York Award for Contribution to New England hockey posthumously. Bunyon is a former president of the National Ice Hockey Officials Association (NIHOA).
