Cott Main Winelist 1.10.19.Xls As we are a Wine Store and not a restaurant our pricing mark-ups differ from the norm. The list below has our recommendations for today which change regularly as we stock many wines that are “hard to get” and in short supply. If nothing on the list takes your fancy feel free to choose a bottle from our shop floor and add $18.50 for the 'drink here' price ($10 for half bottles, $37 for magnums). Retail plus 'drink here' allows you to choose wines at significantly below normal restaurant margin. • Hall of Fame Initiative and I Congratulate the Names Below for Making This Imperial Grade
100 Best Australian Wines 2011 matthewjukes.com tastingnotes Welcome to the 100 Best Australian Wines list for 2011. As always, this century of greats is the result of exhaustive tastings over the last twelve months and it represents the finest one hundred Australian wines available on the shelves in the UK this year. 2011 sees the evolution of my Hall of Fame initiative and I congratulate the names below for making this imperial grade. Firstly, these twelve magnificent producers have been the most consistent wineries in the 100 Best Australian Wines list since its inception in 2004, being included in every single list and they are to be applauded. DE BORTOLI, FOX GORDON, JACOB’S CREEK, MCWILLIAM’S, MITOLO, PENFOLDS, PETER LEHMANN, ST HALLETT, THE LANE VINEYARD, TYRRELL’S, WIRRA WIRRA, YALUMBA In addition, the concluding eleven members of the Hall of Fame have made it into all bar one of the 100s and they are: CHAPEL HILL, CULLEN, GROSSET, HARDY’S, JANSZ, KNAPPSTEIN, LEEUWIN, MAJELLA, MOSS WOOD, MOUNT HORROCKS, STONIER It is fascinating to see that boutique operators rub shoulders with giants and while large portfolios like Penfolds have notched up a massive 29 wines over the years, with De Bortoli (24), Yalumba (23) and Peter Lehmann (21) there are also a few notable names like Jim Barry (13), Tim Adams (13), Petaluma (12) and Tamar Ridge (10) who have missed out on two years of lists and so narrowly miss receiving the HoF accolade, but still have performed at a massive run rate more recently. So twenty-three estates gain Hall of Fame status (between them hauling 40/100 spots in this year’s list!) and their portfolios of wines, along with this year’s 100 Best, will be used as the vanguard of my continued push to celebrate and educate the world about fine Australian wine.

  • Australia, Western Australia: Happy 50Th, Margaret River! Joe Czerwinski the Wine Advocate | December 29, 2017
Australia, Western Australia: Happy 50th, Margaret River! Joe Czerwinski The Wine Advocate | December 29, 2017 I hope the good folks in Swan Valley, Pemberton, Mount Barker and the like will forgive me for this focus on Margaret River, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of commercial wine-grape plantings there in 2017. Building on the visit of UC Davis professor Harold Olmo in the 1950s, who suggested that parts of southwestern WA would be suitable for grape growing, John Gladstones, a lupin researcher with an interest in wine, published papers in 1965 and 1966 touting Margaret River as perhaps being even better for grapes than Mount Barker. There was a bit of local controversy over whether 1966 or 1967 was the appropriate birth year for the region, but the claim for the 1967 plantings by Perth-based cardiologist Tom Cullity at what is now Vasse Felix seems to have won out. Other early pioneers in Margaret River include Moss Wood and Cullen, followed soon thereafter by Woodlands, Cape Mentelle and Leeuwin Estate. The Margaret River region is actually a wide, shallow peninsula that sticks out into the Indian Ocean. Its southern end is lapped by the Southern Ocean, which creates a temperature gradient from the cooler south to the warmer north. The longest-established vineyards lie toward the center of the continuum, in the subregion of Wilyabrup, now highly regarded for Cabernet Sauvignon. Chardonnay production has, generally speaking, moved south, into cooler regions. Margaret River represents only something like 2.3% of all wine produced in Australia, but it accounts for a vast majority of the trophy-winning Cabernets and Chardonnays in the Australian national wine show system.

  • CHOP Steakhouse Wine List
CHOP Steakhouse Wine List The CHOP Steakhouse wine list features one of the most comprehensive collections of American wine in Tokyo, along with limited, hard-to-find cuvées from all over the world. The list’s hallmarks are wines that reflect the personality of the winemaker while expressing the terroir of where the vines are grown. In our search for wine made organically, biodynamically or naturally, with minimal intervention in the cellar and fermented with wild or ambient yeast (instead of cultured ones), we aim to highlight the abilities of the vigneron, the unique flavors of native grape varieties and local winemaking traditions. Organic wine is made from grapes grown in accordance with the principles of organic farming, which typically excludes the use of artificial fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. Biodynamics is a form of holistic farming that uses manure and compost to improve soil quality and the interaction of the vines with their environment. The father of the movement is widely regarded as Rudolf Steiner, who gave a series of agricultural lectures on the fundamentals of biodynamics in 1924. Natural wine is made with minimal chemical and technological intervention in the grape-growing process and produced without adding or removing anything during winemaking. We truly hope you enjoy exploring this selection of charismatic, boutique labels from some of the wine world’s most flamboyant pioneers. • Margaret River Celebrates Its 50Th
MEDIA RELEASE For immediate release 50 years in the making: Margaret River Wine celebrates its 50th anniversary with four events across Melbourne and Sydney this September After just 50 years, Margaret River is ranked among the world’s most famous and prestigious wine regions. To celebrate the last five decades since the first grape vines were planted, 19 renowned Margaret River wineries will host a series of indulgent dinners and wine tasting events in Melbourne and Sydney, in early September. Guests will have the opportunity to experience 11 of Margaret River’s most premium wineries over a stunning five-course dinner at three-hatted restaurant, Vue de monde on Monday 4 September, and Bentley Restaurant + Bar on Wednesday 6 September. Winemakers and sommeliers from wineries including Cape Mentelle, Voyager Estate, Howard Park and Woodlands will showcase their flagship varietals, predominately chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon, with all wines awarded 95+ points by James Halliday, or Gold Medals by the Langton’s Margaret River Wine Show. For Deep Woods Estate chief winemaker Julian Langworthy, the events offer a unique opportunity to bring together some of the region’s finest wines under one roof. “It’s great to see so many fantastic winemakers and wineries taking part in these events. I’m excited to showcase some of Deep Woods’ most notable wines alongside my industry peers,” he says. Margaret River Wine will also host a tasting in Melbourne and Sydney, presenting over 50 wines from some of the region’s most iconic producers, including Fraser Gallop Estate, McHenry Hohnen, Xanadu and Margaret River’s oldest winery, Vasse Felix.
