  • Admission Rules for Community and Voluntary-Controlled Co-Educational
The Highfield School Admission arrangements for 2020/21 The school will have a published admission number of 180 Section 324 of the Education Act 1996 requires the governing bodies of all maintained schools to admit a child with a statement of special educational needs that names their school. All schools must also admit children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that names the school. Rule 1 Children looked after and children who were previously looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangement order or a special guardianship order). Rule 2 Medical or Social: Children for whom it can be demonstrated that they have a particular medical or social need to go to the school. A panel of HCC officers will determine whether the evidence provided is sufficiently compelling to meet the requirements for this rule. The evidence must relate specifically to the school applied for under Rule 2 and must clearly demonstrate why it is the only school that can meet the child’s needs. Rule 3 Sibling: Children who have a sibling at the school at the time of application, unless the sibling is in the last year of the normal age-range of the school. Note: the ‘normal age range’ is the designated range for which the school provides, for example Years 7 to 11 in a 11-16 secondary school, Years 7 to 13 in a 11-18 school. Rule 4 Children for whom The Highfield School is their nearest school. Rule 5 Children who live in the priority area for whom it is their nearest Hertfordshire maintained school or academy that is non-faith, co-educational and non-partially selective.

  • The Origins of Ickleford
The origins of Ickleford Figure 1: Ickleford in the twenty-first century; pale lilac areas were once in Holwell (in Bedfordshire before 1894) and pale blue in Shillington (Bedfordshire); green areas are Archaeological Areas previously used in planning (© Ordnance Survey) Introduction The village of Ickleford lies to the north of Hitchin and sits astride the Icknield Way. The historic parish – formerly part of Pirton – consisted of two separate lobes, joined by a narrow section of Lower Green between Snailswell (previously in Holwell) and the River Hiz (Figure 2). The manor of 1 Ickleford occupied the southern lobe, while the northern was the manor of Ramerick. The ‘tongue’ of Holwell that projected east from the Bedford Road around Snailswell and the detached part around Cadwell were transferred to Ickleford in the later twentieth century; both parts lay in Bedfordshire before 1894. The southern and eastern boundaries of the parish followed the Rivers Oughton and Hiz respectively. Since the incorporation of Cadwell into Ickleford, this remains true only north of Lower Green Farm and south of the Icknield Way. The northern boundary follows an unnamed stream, branches of which rise in Holwell and Stondon. To the west, the Bedford Road (A600) forms its northern line, while it follows hedges, field baulks and minor roads in a zig-zag to the River Oughton. Ickleford became a vicarage in 1215, with two chapels: one lay in Ickleford, the other at Ramerick. Each chapel served a separate manor, both of which were subinfeudations of Pirton, each held for a quarter of a knight’s fee from that manor.

Also, James was living very close to Shadrach, Alice and George Currell in C41.After writing this, I checked in Herts Removal Orders and behold! Thomas was removed from Hitchin to Norton 17 1 1776 with wife Mary, and sons JAMES (2) and Shadrack (6 mo)The question should be asked: Why did Thomas go to Hitchin - where was his wife living, and were any of his relations there at the time? Is there any connection to Robert Currell (x1762 Graveley) who was my ancestor? 16 Currell William I think that William is the son of Wm and Frances who were living at Willian.

  • North Hertfordshire Open Space Review & Standards 2016
North Hertfordshire Open Space Review & Standards 2016 PART 1: OPEN SPACE REVIEW 1 1. Introduction 1.1 Access to high quality open spaces and opportunities for sport and recreation can make an important contribution to the health and well-being of communities; and if well designed and maintained they can make areas attractive places to live, work and visit. 1.2 Planning Policy Guidance Note 17 (PPG17): Planning for Open Space, Sport and Recreation (2002) aimed to improve the quantity and quality of open space, by requiring local authorities to undertake an assessment of needs and opportunities in their area, and to develop a series of local standards by which to improve the overall provision of open space. 1.3 In 2009 an assessment was carried out to assess the provision of open space, sport and recreation facilities in North Hertfordshire, based on PPG17 and its Companion Guide (Assessing Needs and Opportunities). This North Hertfordshire Green Space Standards document examined the existing provision based on different types of open space and set out open space standards, differentiating between urban and rural developments. 1.4 The purpose of this 2016 report is to review open space provision in the District since the open space assessment undertaken in 2009. In doing so, it will provide an updated position on the latest provision of open space, sport and recreation facilities in North Hertfordshire. This work is being done in line with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) (2012) and Planning Practice Guidance (PPG) (2014), which have replaced PPG17 and its Companion Guide. 1.5 This 2016 update will ensure that the Local Plan is supported by an up-to-date assessment and will form part of the evidence base.
