26 London Road, Woolmer Green, Knebworth, SG3 6JP 01438 813 236 Welcome to Knebworth Recreation Ground…

This afternoon we host, for the first time ever, Wormley Youth FC at the Recreation Ground. Our visitors have had a mixed season and currently sit just above the K’s in the table so we can expect a tough game this afternoon.

I’d like to welcome the players, staff, officials and supporters from Wormley along with today’s referee Mark Hays. We hope you all have an enjoyable afternoon with us and a safe journey home.

I’d also like to wish everyone connected with the football club a Happy New Year. Let’s hope 2015 is a good year on and off the field.

The Ks Reserves will be under new management today with Frazer Triggs taking over from Nigel and Jeff although Nigel will be staying on to assist him. Everyone connected with the club would like to thank them for their hard work and efforts so far. There is a short profile on the new man in today’s programme.

Included today are the usual mix of scores and league tables from the HSCL and this week’s Non-League Paper column which focuses on the end of Non- League involvement in the FA Cup for another season.

We are still looking for people to take on some small weekly or monthly tasks to share the burden of running your football club; an hour a week or a few hours each month. If you’d like to get involved, please get in touch with Stuart.

Please join us back at the pub after the game where food is generously laid on and live sports are shown on television – it’s just down the road and you’ll be warmly welcomed!

Enjoy the game!

John

Non-League Paper programme column by Steve Coney

SO that's that then. The Non-League FA Cup flame is extinguished a lot earlier than usual, but as one door closes another often opens.

The third round weekend was void of any big upsets. Good games nonetheless – how the TV companies will still be kicking themselves for not broadcasting Blyth's ding-dong with Birmingham live. But round four will, sadly for all concerned, be without one of ours.

Dover were disappointing against Crystal Palace, while Wrexham were ten minutes away from sending Stoke City packing. Equally as heart-breaking was Derby's penalty winner three minutes into injury time that saw off a sickened Southport.

Gateshead were meanwhile left wondering what would have happened if West Brom hadn't appointed Tony Pulis in the run up to their 7-0 defeat. It gave Albion a major pick-me-up.

We all require some giant-killings in our life, right? If you need to get your hit of upsets, the FA Trophy could provide what you're looking for. There's a big weekend in store for the competition and some top matches in prospect.

Wrexham were winners back in 2013 and travel to Stockport County today, while Ryman South side Burgess Hill welcome Vanarama Conference Dartford.

Gosport Borough, the finalists from last season of course, are this afternoon hosting Braintree Town – can Alex Pike's side repeat the feat and return to Wembley?

We have already had our fair share of FA Trophy headlines. Conference leaders Barnet were humbled 6-2 at home by Concord Rangers in the first round last month having held Martin Allen's side to a goalless draw in the original tie.

That wasn't all. A strong Bristol Rovers side were dumped out at home to Conference South Bath City but making our front page were Burgess Hill Town – the side undefeated in league football in 's top eight divisions went to Aldershot Town and won. Can they carry that on today?

The FA Trophy is sometimes seen as a side-dish with the main course of the FA Cup on most fans' lips. But the taste of a run to Wembley can't be ignored – and with many of the big hitters already tumbling out, it's about time the competition was ramped up off the field.

The Football Association have put an extra emphasis on their promotion of the FA Cup this season and they need to do the same for Non-League's showcase competition.

While we haven't had the number of upsets in the FA Cup as we would have liked, the FA Trophy will always produce.

Club News… New Management for Ks Reserves…

Former Ks talisman Frazer Triggs makes a welcomed return to the club this week to become Reserve team manager. Triggs spent nine years terrorising county league defences for the Ks, racking up 193 appearances and a record 126 goals, before semi- retiring to Sunday league football. Having been player-manager of his Sunday side for four years, the time has come for a new challenge.

Vice Chairman Dan Looney said: “we’re really looking forward to having Frazer back on board. His experience of county league football, and history with the club, are the perfect combination to develop our young players and prepare them for first team football in the years to come.”

Chairman Stuart Biddle thanked Nigel Goodridge and Jeff Pratt for their contribution so far, “Nigel has given so much time and effort organising and managing the team, particularly over the past 12 months, and Jeff’s help at training and matches is greatly appreciated – my personal thanks go to both of them. They’ll both still be around, with Nigel assisting Frazer and Jeff’s sons will be some of those looking to push for first team football.”

Club History…

Knebworth Football Club was formed in 1901 as founder members of the North Herts League and were crowned champions on five occasions and won the county Junior Cup in 1912/13, before moving to the Herts County League in 1948.

A period of success came in the 1970s with a host of championships and cup wins, often under the influence of ex-Tottenham Hotspur player Johnny Brooks. Knebworth Football Club moved up the football ladder in 1983 to the South Midlands League, as well as to a new ground at Old Knebworth Lane. After five years the club returned to the North Herts League due to financial difficulties, winning three cups and a league title in two seasons, before going back to the Herts County League.

There is no evidence to suggest that the club ever had a youth section, and in 1977 Doug Dilley set up Knebworth Youth Football Club initially with just an U12 boys team. The club began to grow and quickly had teams at U9 and U10 for the following season. The club continued to grow and within 25 years there were boys and girls teams representing the club from Under 6 through to Under 17 and over 200 registered players.

Knebworth Football Club folded in 1995 when their ground at Old Knebworth Lane was sold as a health club. Four years later, Martyn Bond took his Knebworth Youth Football Club U18 side into senior football and re-formed Knebworth Football Club. After four successful years in the Hertford & District League the club were elected to the Herts Senior County League, achieving the FA's 'Charter Standard' award that same year and being crowned Herts FA 'Adult Club of the Year' in 2005.

Knebworth Youth Football Club first achieved the FA's 'Charter Standard' award in 2004 and went on to pick up the Herts FA 'Club of the Year' in this category in both 2006 and also 2008. Further hard work and continued development saw the club achieve the coveted FA 'Development Club' status.

In summer 2013, Knebworth Youth Football Club was incorporated into Knebworth Football Club.

Knebworth Old Boys Football Club formed in the late 1980s as a veterans team playing on Sunday mornings, and in May 2014 agreed to join the club to bring all Knebworth football under one banner.
