Maulana Azad College has succeeded to retain its position among the foremost institutions in eastern India. Over the years, our endeavour has brought us ‘A’ grade accreditation status from NAAC, status of ‘Centre of Potential for Excellence’ from UGC, status of ‘DBT-STAR College’ from MHRD, Govt. Of India, apart from other prestigious financial supports like FIST from DST, Govt. of India, BOOST from DBT, Govt. of West Bengal. With 20 departments, at present the college offers 20 UG degrees in broad areas ranging from language, social science and sciences to commerce, as well as 3 PG courses in English, Urdu and Zoology. We follow a transparent admission procedure based on merit. We also adhere to the reservation policy of the Higher Education Department. A number of different scholarship schemes are there to provide support to meritorious students from economically backward families. Our students receive all information and notification on time through the college website as well as through conventional notice boards. This institution has developed a regular practice of parent-teacher meet, peer-visit, invited lectures, students’ seminar, alumni meet etc. Diverse co-curricular cultural activities are passionately pursued by our students, sometimes alongside their teachers, and these practices reflect a cultural harmony that transcends all religious dogmas and celebrates our heritage of unity in diversity. With its tradition of evolving with the times, I am sure our institution will face up to the challenges of the present global crisis and emerge stronger and more oriented to the needs of a changed social order with active participation of all concerned.
