The site is categorized as Institutional and mixed residential as per Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority. The project site is well connected by rail, road and air ways. Topographically, the project area is flat terrain.

The expected population after expansion is 32,601 (including visitors). Daily fresh water requirement for after expansion of 1891.6 KLD will be met through CMWSSB. The sewage generation after expansion is 2548.4 KLD which will be treated in STP of 4 MLD. The treated sewage will be 2434 KLD in which 1042 KLD will be reused for toilet flushing, 520 KLD will be utilized for Green Belt Development, 416 KLD will be utilized for Groundwater recharge, 281 KLD will be used for HVAC systems & 200 KLD will be used in IIT Research Park.

Solid Waste generation after expansion has been projected as 10,406 kg /day out of which 7,284 kg /day of Biodegradable waste will be composted using composting facility and part of it will be treated using dome type bio-digester. The Non- Biodegradable waste will be disposed through Authorized Recyclers. Dewatered STP sludge of 364 kg/day will be used as manure for gardening within the facility. The hazardous waste generation from the research laboratories will be stored in specific containers and will be sent to TSDF Gummidipoondi. Radio active compounds are used in the department of Biotechnology Year 2012-2013. The radioactive compounds were kept in separately for a Six half lives and then it was discarded as per AERB (Atomic Energy Regulatory Board) Norms. The Bio - medical waste generation from the campus hospitals properly collected, stored and disposed to the authorized vendors. The modes of disposal of bio medical wastes include autoclave, shredding, incineration and Effluent treatment plant (Separate) for liquid discharges.

Existing lake of capacity 1,64,970 Cu.m acts as a rainwater harvesting pond to store the surface runoff. In addition to this Soak pits of 14 nos are provided for all the buildings. Also, to collect and store the excess water flows from storm water and natural drainage pipes a tank of capacity 1,81,303 cu.m. has been installed in the campus.

Power is availed from Generation & Distribution Corporation Limited. Total electric load for the existing and proposed expansion is 9000 KVA. Solar photo voltaic cells of 4047.21 KVA has been installed in the campus.

Parking facilities are provided for two wheeler and four wheeler in an area of 17,040 Sq.m. and it is proposed to add an area of 2,615 Sq.m. for surface parking. The existing area is to accommodate 1,700 two wheelers and 750 cars and 14 buses and the additional area is provided to accommodate 200 two wheelers, 100 cars and 14 buses. The total cost of the project is about Rs. 750 Crores.
