Mr Moselmane to move— 1. That this House notes that: (a) 15 November 2017 is Palestine National Day, (b) the date marks the1988 proclamation of Palestine as an independent State by the Palestine National Council (PNC) at a meeting in Algiers, (c) this created a remarkable opportunity for peace under the policy of a two-state solution, (d) in this Palestinian Declaration of Independence, the PNC accepted the United Nations General Assembly's Partition Resolution 181 (II) of 1947, which called for the creation of the State of Israel side-by-side with a Palestinian State, and (e) Palestine National Day is uniquely important this year, as 2 November 2017 marks 100 years since the Balfour declaration of the British colonialists. 2. That this House notes the significance of the National Day of Palestine and the need for continued support for a two-state solution. (Notice given 14 November 2017—expires Notice Paper No. 151) 1815. Mrs Houssos to move— 1. That a select committee be established to inquire into and report on the price of fresh food in New South Wales, and in particular: (a) trends in pricing, comparable to other states in Australia and internationally, (b) the relationship between wholesale prices paid to farmers and the retail price paid by consumers, (c) payment arrangements between growers, wholesalers and fresh food retailers, (d) the prevalence of food insecurity in New South Wales and its causes, (e) the identification of ‘food deserts’ and any efforts to address them, (f) the impact on fresh food prices in New South Wales of: (i) transportation costs, (ii) the level of competition between retailers, (iii) drought, climate change and extreme weather events, (iv) new retail operators, such as AmazonFresh, and (g) any other related matter. 2. That, notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the standing orders, the committee consist of seven members comprising: (a) three government members, (b) two opposition members, and (c) two crossbench members. 3. That the Chair be the Honourable Paul Green MLC. 4. That members may be appointed to the committee as substitute members for any matter before the committee by providing notice in writing to the Committee Clerk, with nominations made as follows: (a) nominations for substitute government or opposition members are to be made by the Leader of the Government, Leader of the Opposition, Government or Opposition Whip or Deputy Whip, as applicable, and (b) nominations for substitute crossbench members are to be made by the substantive member or another crossbench member. 5. That a committee member who is unable to attend a deliberative meeting in person may participate by electronic communication and may move any motion and be counted for the purpose of any quorum or division, provided that: (a) the Chair is present in the meeting room, (b) all members are able to speak and hear each other at all times, and (c) members may not participate by electronic communication in a meeting to consider a draft report. 6. That, unless the committee decides otherwise: (a) submissions to inquiries are to be published, subject to the Committee Clerk checking for confidentiality and adverse mention and, where those issues arise, bringing them to the attention of the committee for consideration, (b) the Chair’s proposed witness list is to be circulated to provide members with an opportunity to amend the list, with the witness list agreed to by email, unless a member requests the Chair to convene a meeting to resolve any disagreement, (c) the sequence of questions to be asked at hearings alternate between opposition, crossbench and government members, in that order, with equal time allocated to each, (d) transcripts of evidence taken at public hearings are to be published, (e) supplementary questions are to be lodged with the Committee Clerk within two days, excluding Saturday and Sunday, following the receipt of the hearing transcript, with witnesses requested to return answers to questions on notice and supplementary questions within 21 calendar days of the date on which questions are forwarded to the witness, and (f) answers to questions on notice and supplementary questions are to be published, subject to the Committee Clerk checking for confidentiality and adverse mention and, where those issues arise, bringing them to the attention of the committee for consideration. (Notice given 21 November 2017—expires Notice Paper No. 154) 1914. Mr Pearson to move— That the Procedure Committee inquire into and report on whether standing order 28 should be varied to: (a) provide for a process that acknowledges the diversity of religious and secular beliefs of the people of New South Wales, and (b) include provision for an acknowledgement of country. (Notice given 15 February 2018—expires Notice Paper No. 159) 1972. Mr Martin to move— 1. That this House notes that: (a) on Saturday 10 March the Maitland Arts Council held their highly acclaimed show ‘It’s a little bit funny’ at Maitland Town Hall, (b) performers on the night were Kathryn Dries, Daniel Ott, Colin Dyce & Michael Power and Dolce, (c) Daniel Ott is a Maitland local who was previously sponsored by Maitland Arts Council and is now studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, (d) in attendance at the event were President Bob Geoghegan and other event organisers including the Hon Taylor Martin MLC, Mayor of Maitland Loretta Baker, Deputy Mayor of Maitland Sally Halliday, Maitland Councillors Ben Mitchell and Kanchan Ranadive and Newcastle Councillor Brad Luke, and (e) the Maitland Arts Council holds several high quality events each year with the goal of supporting upcoming local talent and attracting experienced artists to perform in Maitland. 2. That this House congratulates the Maitland Arts Council on a successful event and its support for the Arts in Maitland. (Notice given 13 March 2018—expires Notice Paper No. 163) 1973. Ms Voltz to move— That, under standing order 52, there be laid upon the table of the House within 21 days of the date of passing of this resolution the following documents created since 1 January 2015 in the possession, custody or control of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Infrastructure NSW, the Office of Sport, Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, Venues NSW, the Minister for Sport, and the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure: (a) any document prepared in relation to the demolition, reconfiguration or rebuild of Allianz Stadium or ANZ Stadium, (b) any document relating to cost benefit analysis for any projects under the NSW Government Stadia strategy, (c) any safety, security or compliance audit reports for Allianz Stadium, (d) any correspondence to any sporting code outlining safety and compliance issues at Allianz Stadium, (e) any agreement between the Government and the National Rugby League regarding fixtures, (f) any document relating to the permanent closure of Driver Avenue, and (g) any legal or other advice regarding the scope or validity of this order of the House created as a result of this order of the House. That this House notes that: (a) on Friday 1 December 2017 at The Langham Hotel Sydney, the Consul-General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Sydney Mr Murat Smagulov together with his wife Mrs Nailya Mukanova hosted a reception to celebrate the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Australia, and (b) those who attended as guests included: (i) consular representatives from numerous nations, (ii) the Honourable David Clarke MLC, Parliamentary Secretary for Justice representing the Government of New South Wales, (iii) Dr Michele Forster and Mr Ryan Neelam from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, (iv) Dr Nicholas Baker and Ms Elena Kirillova from Austrade, (v) Dr Igor Skryabin, Australian National University, (vi) Dr Yelena Zabortseva, the University of Sydney, (vii) Mr Malcolm Ryan, Cumberland Council, (viii) representatives of numerous Australian business and commercial enterprises, (ix) members and friends of the Kazakhstani community in Sydney. 2. Their relationship blossomed over profound interactions in the two years that Gandhiji spent in Mumbai. Upon moving to South Africa, Gandhiji corresponded with Shrimadji through letters. Shrimadji’s insightful thoughts ignited the fire of spiritual inquisitiveness in Gandhiji. Their close association contributed in moulding Gandhiji’s moral fibre. Shrimadji’s inherent adherence to the principles of satya, ahimsa and dharma later crystallised as the fundamental tenets of Gandhism. Although Shrimadji left His mortal body at a young age of 33 in 1901, Shrimadji’s letters and compositions were Gandhiji’s dear companions. He contemplated upon them time and time again. Gandhiji would write about Shrimadji, speak about Him in speeches and discuss Him with close associates. He continued to be deeply inspired by his bond with Shrimadji, and His spiritual works. The force that influenced Gandhiji’s ideas and guided his beliefs, the entity that contributed in the making of the Mahatma - Shrimad Rajchandraji is revered for His great spiritual state, extraordinary personality and literary genius by seekers across the world.

Often pushed aside in the light of apparently more pressing issues, this is a subject which unfortunately is bound to come into higher profile as the results of global warming become more evident – unless of course there are serious policy changes worldwide.

Birla – Bhagirath for the New India1 ABSTRACT Ghyanshyamdas Birla (1894–1983) is one of the most recognised Indian entrepreneurs and philanthropists. He is also considered to be the father of the modern Indian economy as well as one of the architects of Indian independence. His biographies started to appear even during his life time. As the author of the paper claims, they were not mere accounts of his life but in fact created the heroic myth of Ghyanshyamdas Birla and presented him as a national hero realising the ideal of a sage as exposed in the Bhagavadgita and the ideals of sthitaprajna, anashakti and karma yoga, described accordingly by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda in their interpretations of the Gita.
