Confucius Temple 孔廟

Its location was at the present Chengkung Village, between Sunrise Department Store and Kuochi Theater. This temple once served as a station for the Japanese garrison, with the sacred ceremony temporarily abolished during that time. Later, because of the people’s protests, ceremony was resumed and Japanese military withdrawn. The gods were then still worshiped at Tacheng Shrine. Side rooms around Tacheng Shrine served as classrooms for public schools in Hsinchu. After thousands of years, Confucius teachings of still affect the lives of the people in Hsinchu. This temple has become the palace where the spirit of Confucian teachings is kept. Every September 28th, the Sacred Ceremony in honor of Confucius is a major event for Hsinchu City.

12 Glass Museum of Hsinchu City 玻璃工藝博物館

Glass Museum, located in the northwest portion of Hsinchu Park, opened officially on December 18, 1999. It was reconstructed from the Autonomous Club House, which was built in 1936 for lodging and feasting when Japanese royal family and government officials came to Taiwan to make the rounds. Home recreational atmosphere pervades both the garden outside and the space and setting inside, well suited to exquisite and delicate features of glass craft. The job of directing reconstruction and displaying the planning of the whole Autonomous Club House was appointed to architect Tieh-Nan Chi and Professor Kuo-Ning Chen. The museum has retained European style of oriental modern architecture through the standing bricks on the southeast corner of the building and classical image of the foyer. After combining different requirements of diversified users toward the museum as the longitude and analyzing the five service functions of the museum (administration, exhibition, collection, educational learning, and public service) as the latitude, the environment of the museum was established accordingly. Construction of the Glass Museum aims at combining cultural and sightseeing resources to help promoting the glass industry of Hsinchu and letting the public and businessmen participate in and understand exploration and application of the glass industry in Hsinchu. Besides displaying glass artifacts, the museum also promotes workshop learning actively. The public can go further by touching and creating their own works besides visual appreciation and get still more amazement from glass creations.

An outstanding landmark can transform a city: e.g., the Empire State Building in New York, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, or the new Jinmao Mansion in Shanghai. In the 21st century, Taipei needs a more expansive stage for a more brilliant performance: one hundred one stories above ground and five below. The 508-meter Taipei 101 is an engineering feat expected to bring Taipei to the world. With the grand opening of the office tower, TAIPEI 101 hosted an inauguration ceremony on December 31, 2004 to celebrate the start of a new era. The celebration reached its climax at night when the main tower was lit and fireworks were displayed to welcome the coming of 2005: a new year for Taipei 101 to shine. In Februday 2005 the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation signed a lease with TAIPEI 101. On April 18 The Bayer Group became the first transcontinental company to move into TAIPEI 101 Financial Building. Winterthur Insurance Group, ABN AMRO Bank and GOOGLE become our valued tenants. With the growing interests from global enterprises. TAIPEI 101 has proven, as Chairman, Harace Lin, predicted, a beacon of Taiwan’s economic progress. http://www.taipei-101.com.tw/ch/corp/taipei_101aboutA.html

National Palace Museum

Taipei National Palace Museum is a world-class facility that hosts an eclectic collection of treasures kept by generations of Emperors ruling from the Forbidden City. In WWII, Nationalist troops seized the most important pieces in order to prevent invaders from ransacking China's national treasures. A twist of fate eventually brought these treasures to Taiwan. The Taipei National Palace Museum is designed in the style of a Northern Chinese palace. The museum is home to hundreds of thousands of historical relics that make up the world's most comprehensive and precious collection of ancient Chinese artifacts. The entire collection covers 5,000 years of China's historical and artistic achievements. The museum provides Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish and Korean language guides and museum-related literature, a must-see for any visitor's itinerary. http://www.taipeitravel.net/user/Article.aspx?Lang=2&SNo=04000275
