2 Access with no Monitor

3 About this task

4 You can retrieve the IP address of your Avaya Scopia® XT Series even without the XT Remote 5 Control Unit, for example, if your XT Series does not have a monitor. After retrieving the IP address, 6 you can configure the XT Series from its web interface.

7 There are three ways to discover the initial IP address:

8 • Using the network protocol (recommended), which uses automatic discovery of 9 devices on the local network. While this is the simplest method, use an alternative method if 10 the device is on a different subnet and your network policy prevents Bonjour discovery of 11 devices on different subnets.

12 • Using SNMP agent discovery, a tool that allows discovery of SNMP agents on the network. 13 Use this if you are an administrator and the device is on a different subnet to your computer.

14 • Using serial port query, using only a application like SecureCRT or PuTTY. This 15 method can also detect devices on a different subnet than your computer.

16 Before you begin

17 If you choose the Bonjour method, download the latest Apple Internet Browser, which has 18 native Bonjour support, or download the Bonjour plugin for your favorite browser (see http:// 19 www.apple.com/support/bonjour/).

20 For the SNMP method, verify you have an SNMP scanner tool, typically included in SNMP 21 monitoring software.

22 For the serial port query, you need the RS232 cable with a mini-USB on one end and a nine-pin 23 serial port on the other, provided with the basic cable kit (Figure 1: Serial port cable on page 4). 24 You also need a serial port terminal application, such as SecureCRT or PuTTY.

5 f. Open a web browser and enter the intial IP address.

6 4. Log in as described in Scopia® XT Desktop server Deployment Guide. Important:

7 The initial IP assigned to the XT Series is a dynamic IP address. When you first 8 configure the system, assign a static IP address as described in Scopia® XT Desktop 9 server Deployment Guide.
