Britain’s gymnasts have once again made history as the men’s team of Max Whitlock, Louis Smith MBE, Kristian Thomas, Nile Wilson, Brinn Bevan and Daniel Purvis have taken silver at the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships at the Hydro Arena in Glasgow, our greatest ever artistic gymnastics World Championships team result. The GB men, who have never taken a world team medal, finished with 270.345, just 0.473 behind the newly crowned champions Japan (270.818) and 0.386 ahead of former world champions China (269.959). The silver medal was sealed with the last performances of the championships as the Hydro Arena awaited the placing’s, finally the scoreboard revealing the result and again confirming Great Britain’s standing amongst the best teams in world gymnastics The British men’s competition got off to great start with Louis Smith performing a difficult pommel routine under the pressure of opening the campaign scoring 15.333. Brinn Bevan’s huge shout of “come on” to the crowd showed how happy he was with his pommel with Max Whitlock last up produced an outstanding routine for our top score of 15.700. GB then moved to rings where Max Whitlock was again in good form scoring 14.400, the roar of the crowd indicated Scotsman Dan Purvis was next up and he was solid for 14.333, Nile Wilson the last up with an impressive 14.933. Brinn Bevan on vault showed no nerves in his first World Championships his double pike Tsukahara scoring 15.133. Max triple twisted to 15.033 and Kristian Thomas followed with a double piked Yurchenko vault with 15.333.

Bone Disorders Consortium, with the cornerstone of research focusing New Haven, CT on osteogenesis imperfecta, will expand the existing OI natural history study and will launch five new pilot projects including a Phase I drug trial, MEDICAL ADVISORY COUNCIL a biomarkers study, a pregnancy study and a scoliosis study. Primary School Resource Expressive Arts FIG PARTNERS PRINCIPAL PARTNERS EVENT PARTNERS EVENT SUPPORTERS Introduction The 2015 World Gymnastics Championships take place in Glasgow from the 23rd October – 1st November. The event will bring together 500 gymnasts from over 80 countries around the world. The venue for the Championships will be the SSE Hydro. This venue was part of the hugely successful 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and hosted the Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics. Expressive Arts Expressive The first World Artistic Gymnastics Championships took place in Antwerp in 1903. Now, over 100 years later, the 46th World Gymnastics Championships are coming to Glasgow. As a result, this resource has been developed so students get a better understanding of what is involved in hosting and delivering a World Championships event. Expressive Arts Gymnasts must use many different skills to impress the judges during competitions. Using flexibility and strength they must be able to balance, hold and push their bodies in incredible ways. They must also be graceful in movement and be able 12 to control their bodies under pressure from weight, speed 34 56 and height. 78 91 01 11 21 31 In gymnastics, routines are put together to show each 4 gymnast’s ability and movement skills on each piece of apparatus. This is called choreography. Gymnasts and coaches spend many hours in training, learning skills and moves to create a routine and fit it to music. The goal for all gymnasts is to win medals and proudly represent their country. Winning a gold medal whilst wearing the colours of their nation is the top goal for all gymnasts.

Flavia & Vincent started dancing together in the 90s, when they were still in their mid-teens. Vincent had just moved from Southern Italy, not far from where Flavia had been born, to join the dance school Flavia attended. As if by fate, they were ‘matched’ by their dance teacher and their professional partnership has lasted over 20 years. Starting to compete professionally in 2001, Flavia & Vincent decided to move away from competitions after winning numerous Championships, and started on their highly successful BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing journey. Since leaving the show, Vincent and Flavia have choreographed and starred in four shows including Midnight Tango, Dance 'til Dawn, The Last Tango and Tango Moderno. Effeminophobia in Representations of Competitive Level Ballroom Dance
“Whether you are gay or straight, I don’t like to see effeminate dancing”: Effeminophobia in Competition Level Ballroom Dance Season Five (2009) of the USA version of the dance competition So You Think You Can Dance featured its first same-sex male couple in the open auditions.i Misha Belfer and Mitchell Kiber performed a samba routine in front of the panel of judges: Nigel Lythgoe (Head Judge), Mary Murphy and Sonya Tayeh. The performance of a samba by a same-sex couple did not go down well with the judges and, during the audition, the sequence edited to shots of the judges giggling at the couple. Nigel Lythgoe, after making a tasteless joke in which he compared the couple to Will Ferrell and Jon Hedder in the film Blades of Glory, dismissed Belfer and Kiber by saying that they would not appeal to the voting audience at home. In a final comment, Lythgoe then asserted that he would like to see Belfer and Kiber dance with girls rather than someone of the same sex. As can only be expected, Lythgoe’s response to the same-sex samba dancing couple inspired accusations of homophobia from a range of writers, journalists and commentators. Michael Jensen argued that in this episode of So You Think You Can Dance ‘homophobia was packaged and delivered to American audiences under the guise of entertainment’ (2009) while Jennifer Buscher wrote that ‘Misha and Mitch seemed to be included in the audition footage as freaks for the judges and audience to laugh at’ (2009). In response to these types of comments, Lythgoe took to twitter to argue: I hear I’m taking a beating on the web due to my comments regarding same- sex ballroom.
