This family-friendly tour will feature O- Town, Aaron Carter, Ryan Cabrera and Tyler Hilton from One Tree Hill. Lance Bass is the quintessential illustration of a highly successful and driven jack-of-all-trades: singer, host, actor, producer, writer, entrepreneur, philanthropist and cosmonaut. Beyond his fame as a member of the phenomenally successful group *NSYNC, where the group sold an impressive 60 million plus records worldwide, Bass has made himself a household name throughout the globe. He is the perfect host for the POP 2000 Tour, which will allow the Naperville Jaycees’ Last Fling audience to relive their boy- band memories from the early 2000’s. O-Town O-Town’s story began in 1999, when “Making the Band” (produced in conjunction with the creator of both the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC) chronicled the creation, development, and rise to success of O-Town throughout three seasons of the series. The group became the first to be signed by Clive Davis to his label, J Records, and released two full-length albums, which included #1 singles, “Liquid Dreams” and “All or Nothing.” The latter of which was nominated for Song of the Year at the Radio Music Awards in 2001. After a hiatus that lasted over 10 years, the band reunited in 2014 and released their third studio album, Lines & Circles, and set out on a national tour. The band released the EP Empty Spaces in 2017. Aside from their musical career, the group made their acting debut in 2016 starring in Backstreet Boy member, Nick Carter’s cult film, “Dead 7”, amongst members of all of the generation’s biggest boy bands, which was premiered on the Sy-Fy channel. Aaron Carter Aaron Carter became an international pop sensation with several multiplatinum albums and countless chart-topping singles before adulthood. His first album, Aaron Carter went 5x platinum. His second album, Aaron’s Party released in 2000, went quadruple platinum, followed by two more triple platinum album releases. Dabbling in film and television, Aaron appeared on popular TV series including “Lizzie McGuire,” “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” and “7th Heaven.” Films include “Ella Enchanted,” “PopStar” and “Supercross.” Aaron also appeared in the Broadway show, “The Fantastiks” and joined the cast of ABC’s hit competition series “Dancing With The Stars.” Now in 2018, Aaron is returning to his music roots with his first album in 15 years. Ryan Cabrera Ryan Cabrera is the singer and songwriter behind ubiquitous smashes such as “On the Way Down,” “True” and “Shine On” as well as albums including 2004’s Take It All Away, which hit #8 on the Billboard Top 200, 2005’s You Stand Watching and 2008’s The Moon Underwater. In 2015, Ryan released the EP Wake Up Beautiful. Tyler Hilton Tyler Hilton moved to Los Angeles and released a self-titled independent album in 2000. He also indulged his other passion, acting, by appearing in The CW’s “One Tree Hill,” the indie cult favorite “Charlie Bartlett” and playing Elvis Presley in the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line” (Hilton’s songs have actually been included on the Grammy Award- winning “Walk the Line” soundtrack and on all three of the popular “One Tree Hill” soundtracks). Hilton signed with Maverick Records and released The Tracks Of Tyler Hilton in September 2004. *NSYNC’s Lance Bass will host the POP 2000 Tour featuring O-Town, Aaron Carter, Ryan Cabrera and Tyler Hilton beginning at 7:00pm on the Men in Black Pest Control Services Main Stage, located at the base of Rotary Hill near Naperville’s famed Riverwalk on Friday August 31, 2018. Gates will open at 6:00pm. Take advantage of the Early Bird Pre-Sale, now through Sunday May 13 where General Admission tickets are $10 and PIT passes are $20. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

Abstract This qualitative study examined young children’s music preferences through group conversations with children, interviews with parents, and non- participant observation of classroom settings in daycare and elementary classrooms. Data were analyzed inductively to generate themes, and revealed that (1) children expressed distinct preferences for an eclectic range of music from very early ages; (2) rock and popular music were frequently mentioned as preferred styles by parents and children, with movie and television soundtracks high in popularity; (3) music listening was characterized by a reliance on diverse technologies, with listening inextricably interwoven with viewing; and (4) music listening and experiences in the home described by children and parents varied considerably from what was offered in the school and daycare settings. Findings from this study contribute to an understanding of young children’s music preferences and listening habits in contemporary Western society.     The Uses of Animation 1 1 The Uses of Animation ANIMATION Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and change by means of the rapid display of a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other.     Oh, Aaron. There are a lot of ways to find inner peace- some take long walks, some journal or paint, some do yoga or drugs, and some turn to their faith. And then there's music. Music, as the English playwright William Congreve once said, has charms to soothe the savage breast. Last Thursday, I didn't really know what to expect when I arrived at a Des Moines bar to see Aaron Carter in concert, but I would never have anticipated that I would leave feeling as if I had been saved. Then again, AC works in mysterious ways. Like a lot of pop stars who topped charts before they reached puberty, Aaron Carter's story is shrouded in a past Dr. Phil might call "troubled" and I would call "fucked up." Aaron began his career at the tender age of seven, and by the time his second album went platinum, Aaron Carter had become an international sensation, touring with Britney and plastering the walls of tween girls before he even finished middle school. Though a child sensations' dismal fall from stardom seems practically a rite of passage by now, Aaron's strikes you as being exceptionally tragic. He sued corrupt music impresario Lou Perlman for royalties, and had his career and his adolescence fiercely micromanaged by his mother Jane, who went on to pocket an unfair share of Aaron's earnings and sell him out to tabloids. Not surprisingly, Aaron filed for emancipation when he was 16. Reports swirled around his friendship with Michael Jackson, drug-related arrests, and substance abuse.

As rock journalism evolved in the 1960s and 1970s, so did two dismissive and misogynistic stereotypes about female fans: groupies and teenyboppers (Coates, 2003). While groupies were scorned in rock circles for their perceived hypersexuality, teenyboppers, who we can consider an umbrella term including boy band fanbases, were defined by a lack of sexuality and viewed as shallow, immature and prone to hysteria, and ridiculed as hall markers of bad taste, despite being driving forces in commercial markets (Ewens, 2020; Sherman, 2020). Similarly, boy bands have been disdained for their perceived femininity and viewed as inauthentic compared to “real” artists— namely, hypermasculine male rock artists. While the boy band genre has evolved and experienced different eras, depictions of both the bands and their fans have stagnated in media, relying on these old stereotypes (Duffett, 2012). This paper aimed to investigate to what extent modern boy bands are portrayed differently from non-boy bands in music journalism through a quantitative content analysis coding articles for certain tropes and themes.

My name is Chris Reynolds; the taping is being done by Dean Williams, and let’s just go ahead and get started here. Charlie, I want to do this in time frames, so the first time frame I want to work on is the pre-1956, before the band got started. But I want to start out with a question that I really failed to ask Ben which was can we talk a little bit about your family? How many brothers and sisters you had and what your mom and dad did and those kinds of things ? Charlie Harmony: Sure, there were eight of us in the family, four boys and four girls. My dad was a coal miner; my mom was a housewife, as was the case in those days. Of course she had eight kids to raise so she had quite a job. They were all like Ben and I, wild and crazy so she really had her work cut out for her. Chris: And you lived in Springfield at that same home over there? Where, near Ben is now? Charlie: Right in front of where Ben’s house was, the house in front of it is the family home. Chris: And the whole time you lived there, so that goes way back? Charlie: Yes, the house was built in 1940, the year that I was born, I was the first child to live in that house, prior to that, behind the house there was a little two room shack and that is where all of my family and the other six kids were born, Ben was born there, I was the only one born in a hospital.
