About the authors

Peter Humphreys was Professor of Politics in the School of Social Sciences at the of Manchester, where he taught undergraduate courses on media and politics and on European politics and a post- graduate course on media policy. He retired in January 2017. He has published extensively on the theme of comparative media policy and regulation, most recently co-authoring (with Thomas Gibbons) Audio- visual Regulation under Pressure: Comparative Cases from North America and Europe (2012, Routledge). He has served as Vice-Chair (2008–2010) and Chair (2010–2012) of the Communications and Policy division of the International Communication Association. Also, he served as Vice-Chair (2006–2010) of the Communications Law and Policy section of the European Communications Research and Education Association (ECREA). Seamus Simpson is Professor of Media Policy in the School of Arts and Media at the University of Salford. He is co-editor (with Manuel Puppis [University of ] and Hilde Van den Bulck [University of Ant- werp]) of European Media Policy for the 21st Century: Assessing the Past, Setting Agendas for the Future (2016, Routledge). He was part of the PricewaterhouseCoopers team that undertook the first EU-funded evaluation of the pan-European electronic communications regulator, BEREC, in 2012. He is a past Vice-Chair and Chair of the International Communication Association Communication, Law and Policy Division (2012–2016). He is a Senior Editor of the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Communication (Oxford University Press).
