Famous Yachtsman Donates Cup to Help Celebrate Bay State Tercentenary.

Special to the New York Times.

BOSTON, April 5. ‐ Sir Thomas Lipton, perennial challenger for the 's Cup and donor of innumerable famous yachting trophies, is going to help Massachusetts yachtsmen celebrate the Bay State's tercentenary. In response to a letter from George H. Voter of Boston, chairman of the tercentenary committee of the Massachusetts Bay Yacht Club's association. Sir Thomas has cabled that he will be delighted to offer an appropriate trophy to be raced for during the tercentenary water carnival this Summer. The trophy will be specially designed by a prominent London firm of goldsmiths under Sir Thomas's personal direction. The races for which this trophy will be offered will take place sometime late in July, probably about July 27, in Boston Harbor. Whether the Lipton trophy will be awarded to the winner in any one class or whether it will be open to several classes of yachts upon a point system will be determined later. It will go to a sailboat in any case. Reprinted from the New York Times, April 6,1930, Section II, page 4. The Lipton Cup
