Jumpchain Compliant v0.3 Welcome, Jumper, to the island nation of Dinotopia. This island, a few hundred miles across, has a variety of terrains and is surrounded by the deadly Razor Reef and year-round storms. These obstacles make it impossible to leave Dinotopia—but really, why would anyone want to? This tropical paradise is home to dinosaurs that survived the mass extinction at the end of the Mesozoic Era by taking shelter in a system of caves under the island. Later, humans came to live in Dinotopia and helped to create a harmonious and peaceful land. Dolphin-backs—those humans who have washed ashore instead of being born in Dinotopia—are the only source of knowledge of the outside world, and the last one to arrive was in 1944. Take caution, Jumper. While staying to the settlements will ensure your safety, Carnivores roam the unsettled areas and have no problems with snatching up the unwary. The Dinotopians are vegetarian pacifists that seek to flee or appease Carnivores during an attack instead of fighting. You arrive on January 1, 2000 at your starting location with your purchased gear. A few years after you arrive, a pair of Dolphin-backs named David and Carl Scott will wash up and be found by Cyrus Crabb. They soon find themselves caught up in what very well may be the end of Dinotopia, with the sunstones failing and Carnivores attacking more frequently than ever. Whatever you decide to do, you'll need something to help you with it. Have 1000cp to spend on the abilities and items below. -
KEENE, Carolyn
KEENE, Carolyn Harriet Stratemeyer Adams Geboren: 1892. The Beginning of the Berlin Wall Erin Honseler, Halie Mitchell, Max Schuetze, Callie Wheeler March 10, 2009
Group 8 Final Project 1 The Beginning of the Berlin Wall Erin Honseler, Halie Mitchell, Max Schuetze, Callie Wheeler March 10, 2009 For twenty-eight years an “iron curtain” divided East and West Berlin in the heart of Germany. Many events prior to the actual construction of the Wall caused East Germany’s leader Erich Honecker to demand the Wall be built. Once the Wall was built the cultural gap between East Germany and West Germany broadened. During the time the Wall stood many people attempted to cross the border illegally without much success. This caused a very unstable relationship between the government of the West (Federal Republic of Germany) and the government of the East (German Democratic Republic). In this paper we will discuss events leading up to the construction of the Berlin Wall, the government that was responsible for the construction of the Wall, how it divided Germany, and how some people tried to escape from the East to the West. Why the Berlin Wall Was Built In order to understand why the Berlin Wall was built, we must first look at the events leading up to the actual construction of the Wall in 1961. In the Aftermath of World War II Germany was split up into four different zones; each zone was controlled by a different country. The western half was split into three different sectors: the British sector, the American sector and the French sector. The Eastern half was controlled by the Soviet Union. Eventually, the three western occupiers unified their three zones and became what is known as the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). -

Imperialism and the 1999 Women's World Cup
IMPERIALISM AND THE 1999 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: REPRESENTATIONS OF THE UNITED STATES AND NIGERIAN NATIONAL TEAMS IN THE U.S. MEDIA by Michele Canning A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts Florida Atlantic University Boca Raton, Florida April 2009 Copyright by Michele Canning 2009 ii ABSTRACT Author: Michele Canning Title: Imperialism and the 1999 Women’s World Cup: Representations of the United States and Nigerian National Teams in the U.S. Media Institution: Florida Atlantic University Thesis Advisor: Dr. Josephine-Beoku-Betts Degree: Master of Arts Year: 2009 This research examines the U.S. media during the 1999 Women’s World Cup from a feminist postcolonial standpoint. This research adds to current feminist scholarship on women and sports by de-centering the global North in its discourse. It reveals the bias of the media through the representation of the United States National Team as a universal “woman” athlete and the standard for international women’s soccer. It further argues that, as a result, the Nigerian National Team was cast in simplistic stereotypes of race, class, ethnicity, and nation, which were often also appropriated and commodified. I emphasize that the Nigerian National Team resisted this construction and fought to secure their position in the global soccer landscape. I conclude that these biased representations, which did not fairly depict or value the contributions of diverse competing teams, were primarily employed to promote and sell the event to a predominantly white middle-class American audience. -
“Why So Serious?” Comics, Film and Politics, Or the Comic Book Film As the Answer to the Question of Identity and Narrative in a Post-9/11 World
ABSTRACT “WHY SO SERIOUS?” COMICS, FILM AND POLITICS, OR THE COMIC BOOK FILM AS THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY AND NARRATIVE IN A POST-9/11 WORLD by Kyle Andrew Moody This thesis analyzes a trend in a subgenre of motion pictures that are designed to not only entertain, but also provide a message for the modern world after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The analysis provides a critical look at three different films as artifacts of post-9/11 culture, showing how the integration of certain elements made them allegorical works regarding the status of the United States in the aftermath of the attacks. Jean Baudrillard‟s postmodern theory of simulation and simulacra was utilized to provide a context for the films that tap into themes reflecting post-9/11 reality. The results were analyzed by critically examining the source material, with a cultural criticism emerging regarding the progression of this subgenre of motion pictures as meaningful work. “WHY SO SERIOUS?” COMICS, FILM AND POLITICS, OR THE COMIC BOOK FILM AS THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY AND NARRATIVE IN A POST-9/11 WORLD A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Miami University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Department of Communications Mass Communications Area by Kyle Andrew Moody Miami University Oxford, Ohio 2009 Advisor ___________________ Dr. Bruce Drushel Reader ___________________ Dr. Ronald Scott Reader ___________________ Dr. David Sholle TABLE OF CONTENTS ACKNOWLEDGMENTS ..........................................................................................................................
