Native or Suitable Plants City of McCall The following list of plants is presented to assist the developer, business owner, or homeowner in selecting plants for landscaping. The list is by no means complete, but is a recommended selection of plants which are either native or have been successfully introduced to our area. Successful landscaping, however, requires much more than just the selection of plants. Unless you have some experience, it is suggested than you employ the services of a trained or otherwise experienced landscaper, arborist, or forester. For best results it is recommended that careful consideration be made in purchasing the plants from the local nurseries (i.e. Cascade, McCall, and New Meadows). Plants brought in from the Treasure Valley may not survive our local weather conditions, microsites, and higher elevations. Timing can also be a serious consideration as the plants may have already broken dormancy and can be damaged by our late frosts. Appendix B SELECTED IDAHO NATIVE PLANTS SUITABLE FOR VALLEY COUNTY GROWING CONDITIONS Trees & Shrubs Acer circinatum (Vine Maple). Shrub or small tree 15-20' tall, Pacific Northwest native. Bright scarlet-orange fall foliage. Excellent ornamental. Alnus incana (Mountain Alder). A large shrub, useful for mid to high elevation riparian plantings. Good plant for stream bank shelter and stabilization. Nitrogen fixing root system. Alnus sinuata (Sitka Alder). A shrub, 6-1 5' tall. Grows well on moist slopes or stream banks. Excellent shrub for erosion control and riparian restoration. Nitrogen fixing root system. Amelanchier alnifolia (Serviceberry). One of the earlier shrubs to blossom out in the spring. -

RIEB Floriculture Specialist, The Ohio State University A NNUAL garden :flowers are a necessity in the well planned .ti.garden for they offer many advantages not found in the peren nial and biennial :flowers. They are easily grown from seed, they produce effects the same season, and as a rule are less demanding in their requirements of growth. Being so easily grown from seed, they give a greater amount of effect for a small expenditure than any other type of :flower. The term "annual :flowers" is an extremely elastic one. We apply it to those plants of which the seed is sown in the spring, and blossoms produced the same season, the plants being killed when cold weather arrives. We also include in this group tender perennials such as the snapdragon and the pansy which, although they often live over, never amount to much the second year. There are many interesting ways in which annual :flowers may be used. This bulletin o:ff ers plans for various sized beds and sug gestions for group plantings. ANNUAL FLOWER BEDS There are many cases where a bed or a group of beds may be planted entirely with annual :flowers. -

The only S. viridis is an annual. Anatomical examination was made of cross sections obtained from stems and leaves, in addition to examining leaf surface sections to determine stoma type. All anatomical sections obtained were photographed. While the stem anatomies of all species generally resembled one another we did not observe sclerenchyma tissue in the S. viridis. Ecological investigation included physical (texture, pH, lime (CaCO3), total salt) and chemical (N, P, K, organic matter) analysis of soil samples taken from the various localities. It has green foliage throughout the season. The pointy leaves turn an outstanding plum purple in the fall. The fruit is not ornamentally significant. Landscape Attributes Honeybush Honeysuckle is a dense multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a mounded form. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition. This shrub will require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. It is a good choice for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds to your yard. It has no significant negative characteristics. The plan identifies a portfolio of sites that is a vision for conservation action, enabling practitioners to set priorities among sites and develop site-specific and multi-site conservation strategies. -

Do cibulovin patří kosatce sekce Xiphium a Reticulata Sekce Xiphium - původní druhy pocházejí ze středomoří, hlavně Pyrenejí, zde rostou v 1500 m na mořem Cibule se 3-5 masitými šupinami, žlábkovité listy , stvol s 2-3 tuhými zelenými listeny a 2-3 květy, jsou modré se žlutým středem na vnějších okvětních lístcích, v přírodě kvetou koncem června Křížením původních druh této sekce hlavně Iris xiphium a I. tingitana vzniklo velké množství kutivarů – označované jako Dutch iris (holandské kosatce), pěstují se tržně v mnoha barvách (od bílé, žluté, modré až po fialovou) a prodávají jako řezané květiny např.
