2017 FESTIVAL GUIDE WWW.FOLKHARBOUR.COM 57 GREENING EVENT GREENING

The Festival aims to be a green event in keeping with the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society Environmental Stewardship Policy to lessen festival waste and to promote public water services. The following are two ways you can help practice event greening:

Use your travel mug or water bottle Refill your own containers at town water refill stations or; look for the “Blue W,” pictured below, at participating shops, or by checking the online map at www.bluew.org, or looking for the Blue W decal in shop windows. Water bottles can be purchased at Folk Harbour Concessions.

Help us reduce and separate solid waste into 3 collection streams: 1. Compost — food waste; biodegradable plates, cups, cutlery; soiled paper 2. Recyclables — glass, plastics, metal containers 3. Garbage “Bins of Last Resort” — non-recyclables and non-organic materials have to go to the landfill.

If you have questions, Green Team volunteers will be on-hand to help. We’d also like to express our appreciation to our vendors who do their part by offering biodegradable plates, cups, cutlery, and offer a variety of drinks other than bottled water.

This year our Greening Committee would like to give special thanks to:

THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE IT HAPPEN We do not earn a profit; all the revenue we collect is directed into activities to further folk music and to develop our community. Our entire senior leadership team (a working IN MEMORY OF MARY LANDIS Board of Directors) is made up of volunteers. We maintain a small, part-time staff to support financial, administrative, and compliance activities. The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival lost one of its best with the too early passing of Mary Landis in November 2016. This picture of Mary, taken at last year’s festival, tells her story. Some years she did these jobs DIRECTORS simultaneously, going non-stop all weekend long, putting out fires and Adam Bower, Chris Anderson, Louis Robitaille, Kelly Bent, still finding the energy to dance to the music as often as she could. Mary DIllon, Anna Clair MacAdam, Peter Glenister, Heather Joudrey, Tracy Cochrane Mary and her husband, Roy, were honoured as Lifetime Friends of the Festival in 2015. It was a well-deserved honour for them both. OFFICE STAFF Mary was a loyal, supportive, and caring friend who could see what was needed and how to make it happen, whatever the challenge. She Accounting: Marilyn Zinowki tackled them all head-on and always, always, with a ready smile and Logistics Coordinator: Drew McCarthy an unerring ability to find humour in any situation. Communications Coordinator: Jennifer Bliss Contracts and Administration: Mary O’Hara She is here with us this year, behind the scenes somewhere just outside our vision, still laughing and dancing to the music.
