I u tome ostaje on tako teško doseziv uzor. • APPENDIX Lesson 1.: Introduction
APPENDIX Lesson 1.: Introduction The Academy Awards, informally known as The Oscars, are a set of awards given annually for excellence of cinematic achievements. The Oscar statuette is officially named the Academy Award of Merit and is one of nine types of Academy Awards. Organized and overseen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS),http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award - cite_note-1 the awards are given each year at a formal ceremony. The AMPAS was originally conceived by Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer studio executive Louis B. Mayer as a professional honorary organization to help improve the film industry’s image and help mediate labor disputes. The awards themselves were later initiated by the Academy as awards "of merit for distinctive achievement" in the industry. The awards were first given in 1929 at a ceremony created for the awards, at the Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood. Over the years that the award has been given, the categories presented have changed; currently Oscars are given in more than a dozen categories, and include films of various types. As one of the most prominent award ceremonies in the world, the Academy Awards ceremony is televised live in more than 100 countries annually. It is also the oldest award ceremony in the media; its equivalents, the Grammy Awards (for music), the Emmy Awards (for television), and the Tony Awards (for theater), are modeled after the Academy Awards. The 85th Academy Awards were held on February 24, 2013 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award Time of downloading: 10th January, 2013.

  • Cinema in Dispute: Audiovisual Adventures of the Political Names ‘Worker’, ‘Factory’, ‘People’
Cinema In Dispute: Audiovisual Adventures of the Political Names ‘Worker’, ‘Factory’, ‘People’ Manuel Ramos Martínez Ph.D. Visual Cultures Goldsmiths College, University of London September 2013 1 I declare that all of the work presented in this thesis is my own. Manuel Ramos Martínez 2 Abstract Political names define the symbolic organisation of what is common and are therefore a potential site of contestation. It is with this field of possibility, and the role the moving image can play within it, that this dissertation is concerned. This thesis verifies that there is a transformative relation between the political name and the cinema. The cinema is an art with the capacity to intervene in the way we see and hear a name. On the other hand, a name operates politically from the moment it agitates a practice, in this case a certain cinema, into organising a better world. This research focuses on the audiovisual dynamism of the names ‘worker’, ‘factory’ and ‘people’ in contemporary cinemas. It is not the purpose of the argument to nostalgically maintain these old revolutionary names, rather to explore their efficacy as names-in-dispute, as names with which a present becomes something disputable. This thesis explores this dispute in the company of theorists and audiovisual artists committed to both emancipatory politics and experimentation. The philosophies of Jacques Rancière and Alain Badiou are of significance for this thesis since they break away from the semiotic model and its symptomatic readings in order to understand the name as a political gesture. Inspired by their affirmative politics, the analysis investigates cinematic practices troubled and stimulated by the names ‘worker’, ‘factory’, ‘people’: the work of Peter Watkins, Wang Bing, Harun Farocki, Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub.

  • Regime Decline and Civic Alternatives in Bosnia-Herzegovina
Alfredo SASSO The ‘Bosnian Silence’? Regime Decline and Civic Alternatives in Bosnia-Herzegovina THE ‘BOSNIAN SILENCE’? REGIME DECLINE AND CIVIC ALTERNATIVES IN BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA (1989-1990) Alfredo SASSO1 Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) Spain UDK: 32(497.6)”1989/1990” 329.71(497.6)”1989/1990” Izvorni znanstveni rad Primljeno: 15.01.2015. Prihvaćeno: 13.02.2015. Summary The following article aims to analyse the alternative, pro- Yugoslav and pro-democratizing options in Bosnia-Herzegovina, from 1989 to mid-1990, until the beginning of the multi-party electoral campaign. The article focuses on three initiatives: the reformist wing of the League of Communists (SKBiH), the Alliance of Socialist Youth (SSOBiH) and the Association for the Yugoslav Democratic Initiative (UJDI). Particular attention is paid to their proposals on the main issues of the political crisis, as well as their conflicting relation with the declining communist regime in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The SKBiH, notwithstanding its non-national and pro-Yugoslav stance, had a different approach on other issues, especially on political pluralism. The article points out that, on the eve of the 1990 elections, the competition within the non-national camp decisively weakened a pro-Yugoslav integrative option.
