Sarah Callagee gave herself without stint to generations of Dun kirk children for more than 50 years. When you stop and think about it, the majority ofpeople now living in Dunkirk, as well as many who have moved away, probably came under her influence at one time or another. And all of them benefited. When she retired after 50 years in a public school career as ele mentary teacher, principal and supervisor, she ttretired" right back to her first love-teaching children to read or to read better. In the last months before her unexpected death she worked with the staff of the Boorady Memorial Reading Center. Miss Callagee began her teaching career in North Bergen, N.J., in 1916 and two years later became an elementary teacher at former Dunkirk School 2. Miss Callagee taught classes at School 4 and the junior high school and served four years as elementary school music supervisor. For nine years, Miss Callagee worked in the dual role of principal of former School 1 and supervisor of elementary education. She be came full-time elementary supervisor in 1963 and supervised the city's first Head-Start program in 1965. Much more could be written about her, but in keeping with her own inherent modesty, we would like to honor ttMiss Sadie" merely by saying ttthank you" to her and dedicating this book to her memory. CLASS OF 1967

The class of '67 began its most important year with the election of the class officers. Under the leadership of Mr. Krawczyk the class began its whirl of ac tivitie in November-building their float and nominating queen candidates. Den ise Odell was chosen queen and reigned over the homecoming activities. On Jan uary 21st, the Seniors enjoyed their class party which was called "Swedish Holiday." In March the Senior presented their play entitled, "My Sister Eileen." The play was a great success thanks to the hard work of the cast and the expert direction of Mr. Albert Samuel. The clas of '67 is looking forward to their prom in June and finally graduation. For the Seniors these past four years have been filled with work, play, a few heartache , but mostly happy, memorable events. We thank all the other classes, and the faculty for adding to our pleasures and with this we bid a sad farewell.

CLASS OF 1968

The Junior class began a very active year with the election of class officers: John Scott, Pre ident; David Greenleaf, Vice-President; Paul Parker, Secretary; Caroline Gittings, Trea urer. The homecoming proved to be worthwhile for a number of juniors. This class produced the winning float for the parade. The queen, Cindy Pett, and her escort, David Greenleaf, rode on the float. The Junior class party was held on February 25. The theme was "Moonlight and Roses." It proved to be an enjoyable night for all who attended. The Junior play, Ar enic and Old Lace, was fun for all who took part. Thi was the first time that the Junior class has had a play at D.H.S. in a number of years. The Prom proved to be the highlight of this school year. Everyone who at tended had a wonderful evening and it will be remembered by all. The Juniors eagerly look forward to their final year at D H.S.

The class of '69 tarted the year by di covering that their econd year in high school was more difficult than their first year, but they quickly adjusted to the flurry of school activities and studies. The first important function was the election of clas officer . Tom Muzacz was elected president; Marianne Bender, Vice-President; Mary Jane DiPietro, Sec retary; and Cathy Petz, Treasurer. An important social event in the early part of the year was the election of Linda Kujawa as queen, to represent the Sophomore clas during the homecoming weekend. Our class advisor, Mr. Shubert, gave invaluable help in planning the highlight of the year, the Sophomore class party held on February 18. The dec orations and the lighting effect followed a theme of "Japane e Gardens." Following a successful and satisfying year, the Sophomores eagerly anticipate their Junior year.

The Class of '70 under the advisorship of Mr. Colicchia started working hard early in November on a float for homecoming. The theme was "Moon River." Lynne Callis was chosen to represent our class as part of the queen's court in the program. February 4th was the night of the Freshman Party which turned out to be a big success with the theme, "Three Coins in a Fountain." After a good start this year our class hopes to have bigger and better plans next year.

The Theta Psi Omicron Chapter of the National Honor Society, under the direction of Jack Anderson, is probably the most admired organization in Dun kirk High School. It has four chief objectives~haracter, scholarship, leadership and service. These objective are strived for by all students who belong to this organization. In the fall of the year calling cards were sold to all seniors. The profits of this activity will aid us in the financing of the Pearl A. Reed scholarship which this club gives annually to a worthy senior. The Honor Society also provided ushers for the Miss Dunkirk-Fredonia Pageant and donated money to the Student Council sponsored Peace Corps School.
