Go south on the FDR to the Brooklyn Bridge. Go over the Brooklyn Bridge staying to the left. Continue straight. At the fourth light, make a right turn onto Joralemon Street. The Law School is immediately on your left as you make the turn. Or: 95 South to Bruckner Expressway to Triboro Bridge to FDR Drive. Go south on the FDR to the Brooklyn Bridge. Go over the Brooklyn Bridge staying to the left. Continue straight. At the fourth light, make a right turn onto Joralemon Street. The Law School is immediately on your left as you make the turn. Or: Hutchinson Parkway to Whitestone Bridge to Grand Central Parkway to the BQE (Brooklyn- Queens Expressway) to Cadman Plaza-Brooklyn Bridge exit. Go three lights on Tillary Street. Make left onto Adams Street, continue to the fourth light and make right onto Joralemon Street. The Law School is immediately on your left as you make the turn. From Northern Long Island: Northern State Parkway or Long Island Expressway to the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) to the Tillary Street exit. Go three lights on Tillary Street. Make left onto Adams Street, continue to the fourth light and make right onto Joralemon Street. The Law School is immediately on your left as you make the turn. From the West and South (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Beyond): New Jersey Turnpike to exit 13 (Goethal's Bridge/Verrazano Bridge). Take I-278 East/Brooklyn- Queens Expressway to Atlantic Avenue exit. Turn right onto Atlantic Avenue. Go six blocks to Boerum Place. Make left and go four blocks to Joralemon Street. Make left onto Joralemon. The Law School is immediately on your left as you make the turn. From Southern Long Island: Belt Parkway to the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) to Atlantic Avenue exit. Right at Atlantic Avenue. Go six blocks to Boerum Place. Make left and go four blocks to Joralemon Street. Make left onto Joralemon. The Law School is immediately on your left as you make the turn. By Subway 2, 3, 4, 5 to Borough Hall Station. M, R to Court Street Station. A, C, F to Jay Street-Borough Hall Station. By Bus From Port Authority Bus Terminal, take the A, C subway to Jay Street-Borough Hall Station.     BSL CLASSROOM LOCATION GUIDE BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK A BIT OF HISTORY FIRST! In 1642, the first ferry landing opened on the land that is now Brooklyn Bridge Park's Empire Fulton Ferry section. As the 18th century came to a close, additional ferry services were added to this waterfront community, including docking points for the "Catherine Street Ferry" and the first steamboat ferry landing that was created by Robert Fulton, which eventually became known as the Fulton Ferry Landing. The community continued to grow into the 19th century as Brooklyn Heights developed into a residential neighborhood, eventually becoming one of America's first suburbs. In 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was opened. Brooklyn Bridge Park is an 85-acre (34 ha) park on the Brooklyn side of the East River in New York City, next to the Brooklyn Bridge. From north to south, the park includes the preexisting Empire–Fulton Ferry and Main Street Parks; the historic Fulton Ferry Landing; and Piers 1–6, which contain various playgrounds and residential developments. It was 1855 when the bridge was first proposed, but by then, plans for crossing the river to connect Brooklyn and Manhattan had been discussed for half a century. Manhattan had a population that doubled that of Brooklyn in the early 1800s, and city planners sought a way to relieve overcrowding while promoting development in Brooklyn.

    Consilience: The Journal of Sustainable Development Vol. 14, Iss. 2 (2015), Pp. 214–224 Gentrifying a Superfund Site: Why Gowanus, Brooklyn is Becoming a Real Estate Hot Spot Rebecca Salima Krisel School of International and Public Affairs Columbia University, New York [email protected] Abstract This feature length article tells the story of Gowanus, a Brooklyn neighborhood on the Gowanus Canal, haunted by the pollutants of its industrial past.. The Environmental Protection Agency recognized the Gowanus Canal as a Superfund cleanup site in March 2010. Yet Gowanus is experiencing an economic and cultural revival. What was historically a booming manufacturing area with active warehouses spilling their waste into the Gowanus Canal is now an industrial site where middle to upper class families, seeking to purchase organic foods, are willing to relocate and settle down. As of December 2014, a two-bedroom condo boasting waterfront views and located just one block away from the Gowanus Canal on Carroll Street was priced at $1,549,000. The average price per square foot for homes in Gowanus is 50 percent higher than the rest of Brooklyn. This story links issues of sustainable development and current urban housing needs in New York City. My research rested primarily on interviews with subjects who have expertise in the changes of the neighborhood. I was fortunate to speak with a real estate agent who specializes in Gowanus, a representative at an affordable housing advocacy group working on development in Gowanus, two separate families who moved to the area when they started began having children, and a life-long resident of 27 years.
