Dr. Japheth Kessio is an Associate Professor in the School of Business and Adult and Continuing Education at . He has been at Oakwood University since 2002. Prior to joining Oakwood, he was at the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton where he served in various capacities including being the Vice President for Financial Affairs, Dean and chair of the School of Business, and Senior Lecturer in the department. He also served as an External Examiner for the Bachelor of Commerce and MBA programs at the University of Nairobi. He has been a member of the Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) to visit and review programs at Bugema University, , and Ethiopia Adventist College, Ethiopia. In July 2012, Dr. Kessio was part of the International Board of Education (IBE) team that visited , Nigeria to evaluate proposed programs. Dr. Kessio’s specific task was to evaluate a proposed Master of Science course in Economics.

His academic background includes degrees in Education (BEd), Business Administration (MBA) and Finance (PhD). Dr. Kessio earned his PhD in Finance from the University of Bradford, England, and an MBA from the University of Nairobi, . He has over 25 years of teaching experience at the college level. At Oakwood University, Dr. Kessio teaches courses in Economics (Economics for Managers; Principles of Micro and Macroeconomics) and Finance (Finance for Managers; Money and Banking; Management of Financial Institutions; Financial Decision-Making; and International Finance).

Dr. Kessio was instrumental in the development and teaching of two online courses at Oakwood University (Economics for Managers and Finance for Managers) for the LEAP Adult degree completion program. He has also been a Concentration Research Mentor for a Master of Science in Administration and International Development Program at , Berrien Springs.

He has attended several conferences and made presentations in workshops.

He is a member of the Oakwood University Investment Committee, and the Academic Division’s Committees of Program Review, and Distance Learning. He also sponsors the Phi-Beta Lambda Business Club, and co-sponsors the Finance Management Association.

In 2010, Dr. Kessio was given an award by Madison Mission SDA Church for Service to the Community.

Dr. Kessio is a member of the American Finance Association, the Southern Finance Association, and the Accrediting Council of Business Schools and Programs.
