BMS/SFB Summer School 2017

Discrete Models in Geometry and Mathematical Physics 11 - 21 September 2017

How to get to the Hotel:

Hotel Kaiser, Kaiserdamm 6, 14057

Tel.: +49 (0)30 364-10-80, [email protected] www.kaiser-hotel.de

From Airport Berlin Tegel TXL: (Journey time approx. 35 minutes)

We recommend using public transport as taxis are quite expensive in Berlin. For travelling from TXL (Tegel airport) to the hotel (and within Berlin, e.g. between hotel and university) you will need a ticket for zone AB. You can purchase a 7 day travel ticket for zone AB (in German: 7-Tage-Karte VBB- Umweltkarte, Bereich Berlin AB) for EUR 30 from the service point next to the airport information desk.

Before the journey, your ticket must be validated by stamping it at the yellow or red boxes near the ticket machines at the bus stop. Then please take one of the Express Buses X9 from right outside the main hall (direction: Zoologischer Garten) which leave every 10 minutes. Get out after about 15 minutes at the 5th stop at Ernst-Reuter-Platz. Go down into the underground station (see plan to the right).

Take the underground U2 in the direction of Ruhleben or Theodor-Heuss-Platz. Get out at the 3rd stop at Sophie-Charlotte-Platz and exit the station in the direction of „Wundtstraße“. From here you have to walk roughly 130m straight along the Kaiserdamm to reach the hotel (see also map on page 2).

From Airport Berlin Schönefeld SXF: (Journey time approx. 1 hour)

We recommend using public transport as taxis are quite expensive in Berlin. For travelling in Berlin you can purchase a 7 day travel ticket for zone AB (7-Tage-Karte VBB-Umweltkarte, Bereich Berlin AB) for EUR 30,00 but you also need an additional Zone C-ticket for the trip from the airport and to the airport as SXF (Schoenefeld airport) is located further out in Zone C, whereas the hotel and the university are in Zone A. You can get both tickets from the “Tourist Information Berlin-Brandenburg” located in Terminals A and D. Before the journey, tickets must be validated by stamping them at the yellow or red boxes at the station/platform.

The Airport Express Trains RB 14 or RE 7 leave daily between 04:44 and 22:44 from Berlin Schönefeld Airport Station (walk for about 10 minutes towards the big or sign to get to the station). Please see the separately attached pdf with all of the details for these trains. The RE 7 in the direction of Dessau leaves at 44 minutes past the hour and the RB 14 in the direction of Nauen leaves at 3 minutes past the hour. Take either train and get out at the stop Zoologischer Garten (the journey takes about 40 minutes). At Zoologischer Garten (see plan to the right) follow the signs to get you to the underground line U2 (direction: Ruhleben or Theodor-Heuss-Platz). Due to construction work in the station you will have to leave the building to get to the U2 entrance.

Travel 4 stops to Sophie-Charlotte-Platz and exit the station in the direction of „Wundtstraße“. From here you have to walk roughly 130m straight along the Kaiserdamm to reach the hotel (see map below).

How to get to the Summer School

TU Berlin, Institute of Mathematics, Straße des 17. Juni 136, 10623 Berlin

The Summer School will take place in the Maths Institute of the TU Berlin. To get there from your hotel please use the underground train U2 from the station Sophie-Charlotte-Platz (direction: Pankow). To get to the right platform turn left when you get out of the hotel and go to the second entrance into the underground station Sophie-Charlotte-Platz: Here you can cross downstairs to the opposite side for the direction Pankow. Get out at the third stop at Ernst- Reuter-Platz. Still in the underground station, please go downstairs and change to the opposite platform. From there take the exit „Technische Universität / Campus Charlottenburg“, which is to the left of the small bakery kiosk.

When you come out of the station walk straight ahead down the Straße des 17. Juni for about 3 minutes until you reach the traffic lights which are situated in front of the main TU building (big white building with „Technische Universität Berlin“ written on it). Cross over the road and the Maths Institute is directly opposite.

You will find signs pointing you to the registration desk and the lecture hall inside the building. The lecture hall MA 041 is on the ground floor.
