The annual hiring fair for male servants (men and boys) and, for the sale of lean stock and calving cows. After the arrival of the morning trains and vehicles from all parts of the country, the streets and Market place were almost impassible. Good men and strong lads were much sought after maintaining high wages ranging from £12 to £40 per annum. There was a large show of lean stock making from 16 to £25 eac.
